I started Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis about an hour ago and love it! I know that quite a few people, on this forum, played it when it first came out. I am just now playing it and it is a terriffic game, so far

Well, here comes sourpuss. I have a hard time believing that Animation Arts, who made Lost Horizon, made this thing. Am I getting jaded? I dunno, but I did not expect to be chasing all over a ship figuring out

how to dye a bathrobe pink or make something out of marzipan potatoes (which I'd never heard of in my life).

I almost stopped, but no. I went on to meet Max, who strikes me as so juvenile I expect him to address everyone as 'Dude' and an archaeologist who sounds as if she ought to be playing with Barbie Dolls. Aack! If she'd told me one more time about those fruit in that horrible voice....!

By the way, I hate to tell you, Nina, but

One thing's for sure, I will never again make fun of van Helsing for

managing to get a library ladder in his pants pocket. Not after I've just filled Nina's form fitting pants with a car battery, a wheel, a hatrack, a shovel, a speargun, a toolbox, a firehose and a life vest. And never a bulge to show for it.

And to think, I jumped to get this game when I saw it. Oh, boy. Remind me not to be so impetuous.

Gil.

Too each his own. I loved this game, I've played it many times until I achieved 100% totality.

Well...I like parts of it. It seems to veer between goofy and very interesting. I'll play on.

What's 100% totality?

Traveler, I understand where you're coming from. I really enjoyed the Secret Files games, but they are . . . considerably quirkier than Lost Horizon. I think if you approach them with that mindset, you'll have a lot more fun with them.

Have you played the first one yet? Nina actually has several funny lines in that one, but I'm not sure that they're all intentional. It may be something in the translation. One of my favorites occurs when you have her grab several items from a shelf, and she says, "I'll take everything with me that is not on the trees by the time I count to three." lol The original Nina's voice takes some getting used to, however. She sounds way too young for the role. Conversely, the original Max has a much nicer sounding voice than the Max from game 2, and the way he delivers certain lines can be very funny at times. Still, while they are fun games, I wouldn't expect them to live up to Lost Horizon as far as the story is concerned.

From what I remember reading, they actually hired a professional writer for Lost Horizon, and it showed. I think Lost Horizon is definitely their best game so far. I believe they have also hired professional writers for the upcoming Secret Files 3, so I have high hopes for that one as well. thumbsup

I'll try to adjust my mindset, venus. smile The game started off so well! I loved the prologue but it's been uneven since then, great at times, straining credulity past my breaking point at others. The great parts keep me going. I've played farther since posting last and now I think that while this won't be on my list of the best games I've ever played, I won't regret getting it.

Gil.

Gil,

I do agree with you that some of the things we have to do are ridiculous and don't make sense. I wouldn't have any idea what to do without a walkthrough but, I can never get through any game without a WT anyway smile I do like the humor in some of the conversations. Despite some of the draw backs, I am really liking this game and look forward to getting back to it. That hasn't happened with some of the other games I have played recently.

Where did you guys buy this game in the US? INteract doesnt even have this one yet, and Dave/Ineract are usually ahead of the curve.

Robedits -- Dave had it as an import months ago and it sold out. I've seen it recently at Target, but that's the only place (so far) that I've seen it on store shelves. You might be able to get it online at Target too.

I got mine at Target about a month ago, and there were still copies on the shelf this last week-end. This game was one of the more pleasant surprises I found there this summer.

Traveler, glad you are enjoying it more now. Have you gotten any farther? I agree, it's not on my favorites list either, but I still had quite a bit of fun with it. smile

Unfortunately, that enjoyment didn't last, venus. I finished it but I did it with one eye on a walkthrough because I just couldn't maintain any interest in the game. I know a lot of you liked it but, frankly, solutions to the puzzles just got more and more farfetched and ridiculous and the whole air of the game was so at odds with the serious theme I just wanted it to be over.

Let's put it this way. I'm playing Jack Keane now and having a ball. If some of the solutions for the puzzles in this one are outlandish it's all part of the fun in a game that doesn't pretend to be anything but fun. I'm saving the world here, too, but

from a nut who wants to unleash man-eating plants on the British Empire
and who can take that seriously? But you know what? I'm much more interested in stopping Dr. T than I ever was in throwing a wrench in the plans of Puritas Cordis!

Gil.

Sorry your enjoyment didn't last, traveler. As I said, I understand where you're coming from. When I first played Secret Files: Tunguska, I expected a different game. I expected something to blow me away along the lines of TLJ and Syberia. When that didn't happen, when I heard Nina's speaking voice, the odd translations and noticed what I interpreted as general strangeness in the situations and puzzles, I was very disappointed.

However, when I went back to play the game again, something happened. I stopped expecting the game to be something other than it was, and I enjoyed it quite a bit more. What I had previously interpreted as flaws became endearing quirkiness. Maybe it helped that I played it with my fiance, and we started laughing over the lines and the situations. In that new light, when part 2 came out, I was really excited since I knew what to expect. I actually think they made improvements with the second game, although I missed the length and multiple locations of the first.

Of course, when Lost Horizon came out, I had a certain expectation and mindset for the game and did not expect to be blown away like I was. I think maybe the problem was you started with the best game first and worked your way backward. lol

Anyway, glad you are having fun with Jack Keane. That is certainly a very enjoyable game. thumbsup Hope you continue to have more fun with this one than SF2.

Yes for $9.99 you cannot go wrong, I really enjoyed the game and as Venus mentioned for SF1

And I agree, SF2 was much better than SF1.
