Coven was pretty far along, then *poof*

Phobos 1953 was supposed to get an English release but nothing on that front.

No news lately about Corrosion. Or recent news about Prominence.

Decay was back-shelved, possibly canned.

Bracken Tor has been infinitely delayed.

Perhaps only Asylum is making any real progress toward a release.

Why have game developers/distributors given up on 1st person games? If it's an economics issue, I'd like to to see a good article or discussion about it, because intuitively it seems like the production costs of 3rd person games would be much higher.

Very frustrating for those of us who prefer this type of gaming.

Can't speak for the others but we're still on track. In our case, Asylum has turned out to be a pretty huge game. And I mean it, we're talking about an obsessively designed *full* mental asylum for you to explore. We wanted to release the game this year but that won't be possible.

The delay will make up for a much richer experience, that's for sure smile

That's great to hear, Agustin, and thanks for weighing in on this. I appreciate the response! Best of luck with Asylum and all of your future work! I'm certainly looking forward to it.

Most of the games you mentioned are labors of love by small teams, some of which are creating the games in their spare time while working day jobs. The global economic crisis may have created a situation where these teams have less "margin" or extra time to work with, thereby slowing down the release of the games.

Some publishers have also gone under, which has a ripple effect on everyone.

Just some guesses here. wave

Well, the point is, in the case of Coven, Decay and Bracken Tor, at least, you had games by developers/teams that had turned out rather high quality prior games that had solid fan bases and good critical acclaim, and publishers should have, in theory, been eager to line up behind the new games. I can understand delays resulting from technical issues, yes, even financial crises, but that would only temporarily delay them, not make them evaporate.

In the case of Bracken Tor, there has to be more going on there than meets the eye. It's been an incredibly long wait. If memory serves, this game was originally supposed to have been out last year, at Halloween. It sounds like there could be a publishing/distribution issue.

It's more than a just sign, it's reality. frown
I haven't played a newish adventure since Rhem 4 in April of this year. I realize it's my own tastes that are restricting me, but there always were a few new 1st persons each year.

Thanks for the thumbs-up Agustin over 'Asylum'. I will most definitely look forward to this being published next year. Very good luck and best wishes with your endeavours and hard work! thumbsup wave

Has Coven been cancelled? I hadn't heard anything for over a year, but I still had high hopes it was going to hit the market soon.

If I count each chapter of Silver Lining as a game and same with Hector, then I have 33 1/2 unplayed games (okay 2 are remakes of games I've already played). The half comes from having started Ankh 2. Fourteen I think came out this year. Ten (including two remakes) last year. So that leaves 10 older games. Not sure which are 1st person and which third. I care more about character interaction. If its first person but I talk to other characters that's fine with me. Don't care much for being alone in games.

If you want to play new first person games these days you have to buy casual games.

You guys are not saying Prominence, Bracken Tor, Corrosion, Phobos 1953 are all canceled, are you? If they are, I'd say these games have died of game-cancer, right?

Prominence and Bracken Tor are definitely not canceled.

There is a lot to do to get a game out and much is beyond a developers control. I give them all kudos for managing to get these games out to us whenever they get it together.

Over the last few years the newer OS have included Vista & the current Windows 7 which must be a bit of a nightmare to any developer that started production prior to those systems. I'm confident that a lot of the games will materialise but we just need to give the developers time to catch up with the latest upgrades! smile

I thought it was just me, but I've moved over to the casual games since I just couldn't find first-person games to play. I've got Black Mirror 2 And Gray Matter just sitting on my computer; they're just not grabbing me.

If there's a first person game that's come out in the recent past, I'd sure like to hear about it.
