As the OP, sorry for the radio silence. Work has been calling.
Thanks to those who've provided input on the status of games-in-progress. Good news, that some games remain alive and aren't DOA. Although I'd googled Coven and saw some pretty extensive discussion in threads on other boards about it being canceled, so if not, I'm glad to hear it. The website for it was taken down after the interactive map, etc. was pretty far along and a trailer had been posted at Youtube. I really liked Rhiannon.
Also great to see the news about the demo on Amarhys--that was one I'd forgotten about, I think. Some years ago now I recall seeing a web page devoted to a game by a group who were attempting to create something akin to Riven, and I am almost positive Amarhys is it. It definitely looks like it, anyway.
In the meantime, I've been going back and re-playing games I liked from before, remembering how good they were. It's a shame some of the older ones won't run on Windows 7.
Argyle -- if you'd like to try some first person adventure-lite/casual adventures with dark(ish)/horror themes you might consider:
Nightmare Adventures: The Witch's Prison
Escape from Frankenstein's Castle
Little Noir Stories: The Case of the Missing Girl
Age of Enigma: The Secret of the Sixth Ghost
All are available at Big Fish Games and you can play an hour long demo for each to see if they might ease the wait for the next first person horror adventure to release.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check them out.
