Is there a way to check to make sure the the Quad Core system is working as it should? Occasionally I get a high usage alert from my Norton and a small graph pops up showing only one of the Cores as high while the other 3 seems to have very little. Isn't the very idea of a Quad Core is for the load to be spread out over the 4? Maybe I just need a lesson as to how this is supposed to work or directions for testing or setting.

Win XP Pro
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 2.40GHz (4 CPUs)
3070MB Ram

The warning can be disabled in the miscellaneous section. I see the message from time to time myself.

Thanks Inland

But why would it even appear? Could there be a reason the the computer is only using one Core? Is there a way to test that the 4 Core function is operating the way it was meant to? Might I have turned this function off possibly to play a game that didn't like multi cores and didn't change it back?

I don't think it a PC issue, I think Norton isn't averaging out the cores. So whenever one of them hits the threshold it alerts you.

Is it a better way to check using Task Manager? It does show 4 boxes under the CPU Usage History

You might try a utility like ***this*** to see what it reports.

You have nothing to get concerned over . As has been stated , this is not a pc issue , but an issue with your antivirus . Norton Antivirus is a "system hog" , and has been that way for quite some time .
