OK, I am shocked and amazed and embarrassed to tell everyone that in my New Year's clean out and donation frenzy, I discovered my T-shirt hoard. I had 3 drawers of t-shirts in the bedroom and a stack of others (too small, too large, special occasion) ones in my amoire. As I started weeding out the ones I could part with, the trash bags (huge ones) started filling fast. Soon I had 6 bags full of t-shirts and I still had a huge stack in the amoire. So I went through all of them again, this time being ruthless, getting rid of anything replaceable or the slightest bit faded, etc. After hours of sorting and trying on and hard decisions, I had filled 3 more bags, and I am happy to report I'm down to a reasonable (well maybe not) count of 46 T's that are just to good to give away. I estimate that the total count before the 'weeding' was about 200! Usually people hoard shoes, or other fun things, but I guess I was a t-shirt hoarder. I wonder if they have a t-shirt that says, "T-shirt Hoarder"?

Sorta, repeat after me, "Hi. My name is Sorta Blonde and I hoard T-shirts."
I'm impressed - I love my T-shirts, but I think my count stops at around 10!

Yup, once a year (sometimes more) I go through my entire house and donate stuff and reorganize. It's amazing how much stuff accumulates when it's neatly out of sight. So the purging goes on and I've now got some really nice stuff, that I can actually find, and some areas finally doing their 'duty'. I finally got all the vacuum stuff in ONE place. Didn't realize I had 4 different areas, each with some parts of the vacuums. Wow. Now if I can just weed out more shirts I will free up one more bedroom drawer in my chiffarobe. Not sure of the spelling on that one. Whew. I figure nobody needs more than 25 T's. Lots of designer ones like Coogi and Versace, and others. Just can't dump those since I might never find them again at the thrift store prices. Unfortunately, I haven't ventured into my bedroom closet. Did the amoire, but not the closet and I KNOW there is a ton of stuff (mostly dressy) that I have to get rid of. Ohhhhhhh!

Sounds like a good idea to "clean out" all those things we do not need or use anymore! Good job Sorta!

I'm amazed at how some of my T's that are over 30 years old are still in great shape. I hesitate to get rid of them, but I need the space and I figure someone will appreciate them. (Gave some of the black creepy ones to my yard kid and hes thrilled). I'm down to 3 drawers, going in for another round today and hope to end up with only 25 shirts (or thereabouts).
I'm dreading having to get into my 'dress' closet. It's got some awesome 'costume' clothes that I can never replace, so although they take up room, I can't get rid of them ever. I mean, how often do you find NCIS 'Abby' high heeled buckle up to the knee storm trooper boots? Halloween is my favorite holiday I think.
I did however, just dispose of my tie-dye psychedelic hippy sweater that I used to wear in college. Love it, but it's thick and I haven't put it on in about 30 years. I'm keeping the tie-dye t-shirt as a compromise, and of course the peasant skirt and blouse of that gauze material. Blast from the past.
Ahhh and today, yes I will, pare down my bed sheet sets. I have ONE bed and 27 sets of sheets! Again, some of my favorites are from the 60's. Not kidding. Noah's Ark is my all time favorite and they made oh so soft smooth sheets back then. Sleeping in the Ark is fun. But as I collect (found some new/oldies at the thrift store), I've gathered way too many sets. Also love my Gilbran cat in tennis shoe sheets. I'm aiming for ONE drawer of sheets.
Wish me luck!

Sorta, I hope you take time to give yourself a great big pat on the back or, at the very least, one of my favorites, a self-hug. You're doing and, seemingly without too much emotional pain, what a lot of people just can't bring themselves to do.
I've heard some horror stories from my sister who makes her living with a self-owned organizing business in which, especially recently, she's becoming known for being able to deal with hoarders. She was one of the featured organizers on a May 2011 episode of Hoarder's, Buried Alive. Lately, she's been helping in sad situations of elderly men being warned by the government to clean or get put into a nursing home. Toward the end of last year, she was busy with one that was so bad the workers had to wear haz-mat suits, and they filled 3 of the 8 ft size dumpsters.
So if you're not that bad, you're doing good!

Ahhh Hoarders. Love those shows. My friend jokingly nudges me during the shows and tells me I'm a hoarder. Ha. I'm so happy I'm not compelled to live in garbage and filth like they are. You sister sounds like a lifesaver for those poor hoarding people. I'd love to see her episode(s). My 'hoarding' is kept in check by my limiting the amount of stuff I can 'accumulate' to the drawers and cupboards in my tiny house. If it doesn't fit, it doesn't stay. Nothing scattered around, everything in its place. Neat and cozy and clean. Loads of antique goodies and furniture and walls full of paintings and other art works. Fun house to 'tour'. My friends and neighbors always ask for a 'look' when they visit. Collector is what I am. When I was in High School, I used to go on 'clean outs' for our church members who were in dire need and lived in hoarding conditions. Haz-mat suits would have been great. Couldn't fathom why they couldn't just throw stuff away, or put it away or WASH it for goodness sake. So I'm still cleaning out. Got 50 antique 'reference' books now bagged up, and then 3 more bags of clothing. I'm being ruthless. I actually have 1/2 a closet empty and 1/3 of an armoire and now 2 full shelves in my antique bookcase that eventually will 'need' filling.

Come over anytime Ana. Most of my friends drool all over the place and keep commenting, "Do you KNOW what that is worth?". My answer is always, nope, but I know I like it and it makes me happy.
Never a dull moment here. Sitting doing nothing and looking around is great entertainment. Antique furniture (solid wood) is awesome. I have lots of oak stuff. My dining room table is surrounded by English school house chairs. Cute, just big enough to fit the adult fanny, and each one hand made out of the various woods they had lying around. I love watching the BBC programs because I see a lot of my antique furniture on there. Love old stuff. Makes me feel comfy for some reason.

I agree Sorta, I would love a houseful of antiques over modern styles any day. It has a warm feel about it. Ana

Sorta, The only episode my sister appeared in is called Hoarders: It's a Freakin' War Zone . She's the second featured organizer and works with the female client who is a bit less cooperative than the other hoarder on that episode. I forget the exact date but it's in May of 2011. I watched it for free on HULU.com. I'm not into antiquing and don't collect much of anything. Not much room in the ranch house I share with my husband. But I agree with surrounding yourself with whatever brings a sense of peace, harmony and sanity to you life. I definitely like the idea of clearing out to make room for more fun stuff

Thanks butterflybabe for the name of that episode. I'll look it up on Hulu too.
This days project was to go through 12 plastic bins of VCR tapes. I had my neighbor guy drag 3 down from the top of my metal storage cabinets in the pantry, and they each contained 54 tapes. So 3 times 54...hummm. 162? Out of that I got rid of 137. I'm only keeping those that are not out on DVD and probably never will be. Anything I've seen and probably won't watch again is going into the donation bags. I shudder to think I've been keeping over 700 VCR tapes! All neatly in bins out of the way but sooooo many. Wow! Lots of free space freeing up all over.

Had to get up and go count my t-shirts; have 14 but most are worn when I do yard work. When they get to worn I toss them. Same with blue jeans; I'll wear until pretty well worn out.
Interesting to see what folks like and enjoy collecting. I have my doll collection(about 300+) and also collect owls but prefer one's that are more on the humorous side and only have about 30. Have a lot of VHS tapes(I think only about a 100) that I most likely won't part with.

Only 15 T-shirts? You are just a beginner!
