I can't win the pool game. The controls seem kind of wonky when trying to shoot the pool cue. Sometimes I can do it and sometimes I can't. Can I finish the game without winning the pool game to get Olga's shawl?

Yes - you can. You will just not see one of the several endings.

Thanks MaG! I love the hotel and the graphics but the gameplay and voices aren't the best. I am about 1/2 way through it and glad to know I can still finish without winning the pool game.

I am at the part of the game where the WT says to match the large hanging picutre of the Dead Mountaineer with the photograph album. I don't have a photograph album in my inventory. I have looked back through the WT and can't find the part where I am supposed to pick up the album. Where did I miss it?

Thanks.

I never did unlock this part of the game, gatsbygirl -- it won't affect your being able to finish.

But MaG posted this in an older thread:

Album - The pictures are obtained when you click on the Xes on the painting correctly.
Then you will see pictures in inventory.
The "photo album" is the label of the pictures that you get from solving the puzzle.

So there is a NO photo album per se - it is a label only by the developers on a set of pictures.

Thanks Rushes! I will try it again but it is nice to know that I can still finish the game without solving it.

Good luck! I imagine it's still fun to see the pics even though it isn't critical that you do so. smile

I was able to get the pics but the gameplay has been frustrating. At the end of the game, when the one-armed man identified the body, the game locked up. I couldn't exit the room, access my journal or move. I had to do cntrl/alt/ del to get out of it. Of course, I lost my progress. I am not going to replay.

The hotel was great but the rest of the game wasn't so great. I was laughing at certain times with the way the characters were flailing their arms about with their awful voices. It was funny too that the maid's name, Kaisa, was pronounced differently by different characters. Alec even said her name one way in the beginning and then pronounced it differently later in the game. Made me cringe.

The cursor do act up sometimes in the game.
Try to close the screen and then open it again. You can do that by pressing the key with the Microsoft logo. Then click on the name of the game on the task bar to bring it back up. See if that helps.

lol Yes - the game was not polished.

Thanks for the tip MaG but I have already deleted it. I would be curious to know how it ended.

Well I'm not going to tell you but it certainly wasn't the ending I was expecting, nothing like it, in fact I burst out laughing at the end. Strange game!! It had its good points - lots of them in fact but the arm waving and voice acting did leave something to be desired, however I'm glad I played it. zombie

"Well I'm not going to tell you but it certainly wasn't the ending I was expecting."

Please tell me the ending. I deleted the game after it locked up on me. You can PM me so we don't spoil it for others.

Thank you!

May I join in on this subject and ask if there's a save for the lights with the mirror? I've just started the game and this one has me stumped. I can't seem to get the order right going from the bottle to the lamp, etc. My cursor won't hold still long enough to keep the circle going.

Many thanks!!! Not to go off the subject, but if you like Holmes et al I'm reading a series now you'd probably like. If you're interested send me a pm or email and I'll give you more info.

You're welcome. smile Enjoy the rest of the game.

Regarding Holmes, yes I'm a huge fan of the original stories, but I tend not to read any published pastiche these days (although I did occasionally, way back when). Thanks, though! Very kind of you to think of it.

Hi misskedi,

It's available via download on Steam. Here's the link:

Dead Mountaineer's Hotel

I'd recommend checking out a couple of reviews of the game before buying, if you haven't done so already. Opinions vary greatly on the quality of it.
