Yankee Clipper, I have deleted all saves except for 2. Every once in a while a corrupt save shows up which I also delete. I have also disabled all auto saving. It helps but after a couple of hours the game starts lagging and then freezes.

I'm really enjoying myself too. I haven't done a heck of a lot yet but it's fun. I've cleared out a few places, killed some bandits, joined the companions and now may go look at a dragon.
I just found out a house in Whiterun is 5000 gold! I'm going to have to hire myself out as a mercenary to get the money.

How do I plant the incriminating letter on Gaius Maro's body? I have killed him, but can not figure how to plant the letter. The Dark Brotherhood-Quest Breaching Security.

JeanK, don't forget to repair, improve, enchant weapons and armour before selling them. I didn't realize I could get more cash by doing that. And loot loot loot. Kazz, I haven't done that quest line yet...but I know we have members who have so hopefully one of them will be along. You can't just drop it on him?

0.o I forgot all about repairing. I haven't been to anyone yet that offered to repair. Who does it? Or do I have to get that skill somewhere.
I guess I should learn enchanting. That will be useful.
I just got killed over and over by that dragon near Whiterun, but I'm only level 6 so I guess I'll go level up a bit more before tackling him again.

Jean, you can do your own repairing at a smiths...you might want to put points in there. I did cos I like to be self sufficient. You learn enchants by disenchanting items at an enchanting table. There is one in Dragon's Reach next to the Alchemy table in the castle. The best way to kill a dragon is to get other folks to take the close up hits and use ranged capabilities and heal yourself, alot. (At least, that worked for me in the lower level)

Finally got it planted, do not know how I did it, just kept playing with it until I accidentally hit the right key. Would like to know the correct way to do this without all the trial and error, if someone would please post the correct steps. I am sure this action will appear again in game play.

Kazzmo you plant things on a body the same way you put things in a chest. Open the body with your action key (default E) and then highlight the item from your inventory and then transfer it with the "R" key.

JeanK, enchanting and blacksmithing are two of the most valuable things to spend time on. The more you practise, the better you get, and the more skills you buy in those skill trees, the better gear you can make. Lydia and I have all Legendary or Epic gear with very powerful enchantments I made myself. I take on dragons and other powerful baddies with my sword, now, never mind all that ranged silliness - and I'm still only at around level 50 in one-handed. My enchanted sword, Revenge, steals health and souls, making me a rather bad person for any unsuspecting boss enemy to attack. The only thing that can get me now is an archer with a powerful bow, and I always let Lydia, easily detected because of her heavy armour, soak up that damage, while I sneak around for the backstab.

I love Skyrim, especially its size and beauty, but for me, Oblivion will always be THE Bethesda game that grabbed me and won't let go. sigh.... Tracy No problem. It'll be fun! Once you get the hang of it, you'll love it. << a dancing tomato for no reason. F3 will always be my fave, but Oblivion was a wonderful game and I was shocked by how much I enjoyed it. I didn't expect to. I thought New Vegas was good but it didn't pull me in nearly as much as those other two. I had much more fun modding NV than I ever did playing it. Morrowind... well, I never could get into that one. I didn't get the hang of the combat in it and it frustrated me to no end whenever I tried to kill something. I eventually gave up. On a side note about Skyrim: Has anyone else noticed that after a while, the glow from the unpicked nirnroot plants get really, really bright? I swear I can see some of them from miles away. *lol*

Morrowind... well, I never could get into that one. I didn't get the hang of the combat in it and it frustrated me to no end whenever I tried to kill something. I eventually gave up. When you first install Morrowind and choose options, select "best combat always" (or words to that effect - I can't remember the exact phrase). Then you can simply "click on your foe" to fight it [ I never understood the complicated "other" system, either !!]

I finished! I'm so happy. The ending was wonderful, and everyone loves me. Yah for me! Hahaha It took me almost 400 hours: twice through (but not quite through the first time) and I only did the main Thieves quest, and none of the Dark Brotherhood. I'm celebrating with a nice glass of red wine, and I'm starting over as a Nord blond (says dark haired Annie)!

Congratulations Annie! I'm only in about 24 hours, and losing track of time while playing.
I took a trip to Solitude to join the Legion. Where is the guy I'm supposed to talk to? I talked to the general and the palace and he told me to talk to him, but I'm not sure where he is. I've been wandering around a while now.

Hi Anne! Thanks for your reply, but I already talked to Tullius. He told me to talk to someone else, whose name I can't remember right now. I'll have to go back and talk to him again and see what he says, and I'll let you know.

Annie, since you've been through once, who did you side with?
I've done almost nothing on the main quest because I don't know which way to go. Also I'm making no progress because I love wandering and have barely touched the centre of the map where the river runs...and the Thieves Guild never seems to run out of quests, nor does the Dark Brotherhood.

I haven't really done anything on the main quest either. I guess fighting the dragon in Whiterun is part of it, but I'm saving that for when I get stronger.
I really need to get to the mages city to sign up, although I've been using my two handed weapons a lot more than the magic, lol. And I'm training in lockpicking too. So, I'll be a little bit of everything I guess.

hagatha I sided with the Empire. I think Ulfric is totally cute, but I don't trust him. I also wandered forever and I put the main quest off until the last.
Starting over is hard! I hate going back to being poor and feeble.

Well I headed off to Lost Echo Caves to kill the head bandit, and I'm not strong enough to do them myself, and the elf from River whatever that I have tagging along to do my dirty work can't either. So I went back to Whiterun where I saw a mercenary for hire in the inn, and she's not there anymore. Sigh.
Maybe I should just go be a mage for a little bit, lol. I"m pretty tough one on one for level 8, but not when 3 bandits are on me.

Hi all,
Well I've got a question about mods that maybe someone who knows more that me can answer.
I know how to install the mods that's not a problem but once I get a mod installed how do I use it in a game. I've downloaded an armor mod and I know to move the file once I unzip it to the data file of my game but once it is there is the armor then available in stores or how do I equip it?

Can someone please tell me how to get my follower to follow commands? I can get Lydia to wait and follow, but that's it.
I've tried to get her to do anything else for weeks. The dialogue tree allows me to say, "I want you to do something for me" but then I don't know what to do. The icon changes indicating that something is happening, but "using" it on things doesn't do anything. For instance, when I use the icon to indicate that I want Lydia to pick something up off the ground, my character starts dragging the item instead. Lydia just stands around asking if I still want her to do something.
This is very annoying. If anyone could shed some light, it would be much appreciated.

Thank you AnnieG I think I got it now. I got a mod that's supposed to be better looking female armor but I wonder if it differentiates between male and female? I haven't installed it yet but guess I will and see what happens. Will back up the existing file just in case.
I was just trying to try a mod to see what happens.

Kazz that is a good question....If you fast travel to a town with a stable, horse will go there and then you can leave him in that town, but if you fast travel from there, he will go with you.

A new beta patch is out. Source: http://www.bethblog.com/2012/01/23/now-on-steam-beta-update-for-skyrim/Update 1/30: A third beta update (1.4.21) is now available on Steam. The update features one new change:
•Fixed bug related to hitching between cell boundaries. We really appreciate the feedback from our Steam Beta. We anticipate the 1.4 update going live this week for all on the PC and being sent to the console manufacturers. The Creation Kit won’t be far behind. As you can see there will be creaion kit out soon as well - let the modding begin!

How do we get the beta patch? Does Steam automatically update it for us? I haven't gotten any messages from them when I log into Steam or Skyrim.
I finally made my way to Winterhold, and now I'm in school. I think I'll stay here a while, lol.

Thank you AnneG. Remember that this is Beta Patch and theordinary patch will come along shortly, maybe in this week. But so far, from the websites I've seen, the beta patch hasn't caused any troubles at all.

AnneG -- I waited around the cemetery for a whole night, too, without anything happening. The next night I got bored and wandered over to the nearby market, and it turns out that was where the action was.
The second time through the game I had trouble with 2 quests in Markarth (The house of horrors and The Forsworn conspiracy). They just never started, although I had no trouble the first time I played the game.

Yeah, same with me You can take the red lettered stuff for your own use but you can only sell it to the fences of the Thieves Guild.

I've got a question on companions. Do they level along with you? I had the archer for the longest time, and now I can have a mage from Winterhold come along instead as a companion if I wish. Can you switch between them depending on what you need?

Yes, you can switch companions any time by telling them it is "time to part ways". They are always available later if you want them to join you again.

Rowan, if you take red lettered items from other peoples chests then you have stolen them. The non red lettered items are free to take. Stolen items in your inventory are not red lettered but as you say have the word stolen at the top right hand. I steal things all the time and sell them to fences. If you are caught by the guards with stolen items they confiscate them and put them into a prisoners evidence chest in the dungeon. When you get out, you can re-enter the dungeon and stealthily loot the chest to get all your items back.

All I can say is it's a good thing I have someone helping me. I keep getting stuck behind doors, and they run in and do the fighting for me. I sure hope they don't snitch on me!

Unfortunately it won't show the link Anne!
I must admit I'm not very good at this game. I do fine again regular enemies, but boss fights, forget it. Although I enjoy the game I'm getting discouraged.
Is there any way of knowing the level of the bosses before you attempt them? I'm trying to recover the books for Winterhold from Fellglow Keep, and I just can't seem to kill the Caller. Does anyone know what a good level would be to fight her? I"m at 10, and have a helper from the College, but we still die.

Thanks, Looney, I'll do that! I have it set on what the game put me, which was, I think, one up from the lowest. Some of those bosses are pretty hard, while others I haven't had any problem with.
Once in a fight I accidently fired at my side kicks flame atronach and my sidekick started attacking me! I had to kill her, but then I reloaded the game to before that incident and kept her alive. What happens if one of them dies? Do people nag you about it?

Jean, there are 2 easier settings I think than the default. Son showed me that. If you kill your side kick nothing happens though you will need a new one. I am the Queen of Saves though and when I kill one off, I just reload. I had a fight where my Lydia attacked me too, but I think she was being charmed by a bad guy. I killed her and reloaded...took a differerant route the next time and was fine. Rowan, Bravo!

Hi Jean and all. Sounds like you're having fun and I am too---still! I just wanted you to know that I too reload ALOT, not just when I accidentally kill a follower or friendly person, but anytime I've thought, "My God I have to go back and re-do that!" Anyway, the last time I killed someone accidentally, I decided to try to resurrect them and it worked! Just do the ~ sign, type in resurrect then click the ~ again. Suddenly they will pop back up and man, when they do it makes me feel so relieved! lol! Hugs and fun to all, Tracy

Just got the game today and I've got trouble. The camera control is swimming badly and the WASD movement seems to be lagging. Does anyone have any advice about how to correct this? It's making me motion sick. Thanks for the help!

Debra, I can't load my game right now, but I will load it in the morning and see if I can find any info. I know mine doesn't do that.
Is your game patched?

L4L, where do I get the latest 1.4 patch? I can't find it on the official site or The Patches Scrolls. I'm leery about using just any site. Thanks for helping me with this. I appreciate it. Edit: I've got the Steam version and it's patched up to 1.4.12 (or 21 I've already forgotten)

When you're in the settings, is the icon chosen when the inside of it's filled in or just looks like an empty slightly tilted square? I've tried to find it in the manual but it doesn't say. I'm trying to alter the settings to help with the super quick mouse problem and it says to turn off the XBox controller option. I don't know if by default it was on or off and since I've messed with the settings, I'm confused. Why can't things just say on or off lol.

@ Debra If you have the Steam Version, your game should be updated automatically. At least that the way I've read and been told that Steam versions of games work. If your game is version 1.4.12 or 1.4.21 you should be patched up already. In other news, the Creation Kit should be released Tuesday as pr. this tweet from Pete Hines. source: https://twitter.com/#!/DCDeacon/status/165536529895272449 For our Skyrim PC fans, the Creation Kit is on track for release on Tuesday. And, we also have a special surprise with it. #whatcoulditbe!? Edit: As for settings, there should be an option to restore defaults. Also under video or game options look under the camera options or camera controls.

Debra, when the icon is chosen it has an "x" through it, but I was confused too. And as Karsten says, unless you chose to disable upadates in Steam, your game should have all patches. Also, as Karsten says, there is a Restore to Default at the bottom of the Settings screen. Thanks Karsten for all your help.

Karsten, I don't see the camera settings anywhere either under gameplay, video or audio (I scrolled down the lists all the way to the bottom). Where are they located? Would adjusting them help me with my mouse being hypersensitive? I've moved the slider on lookspeed all the way to the right but that hasn't done it. I've disabled the Xbox controller and downloaded the UI mod. The mouse moves so quickly that it's very disorienting and it makes me nauseated and gave me a migraine. Would buying the Xbox controller for PC solve the problem? I'd really like to have fun with this game but so far no joy due to the mouse issue. L4L thanks for the icon answer. I feel so dumb

Got it fixed!! I moved the look speed 2/3 way to the left and clicked the Y axis and it is just right for me. Thanks for the help with this. I was about to order an Xbox controller. Saved that 50 bucks.

Annie--I was thinking the same thing yesterday. If only the man would take a bath and change his clothes! I like him alot (don't worry, won't steal him from you-lol) but God love him he needs to get busy with the personal grooming. Hope the Creation Kit isn't hard to learn because I think AnneG is right---we're going to have our own little modding community soon! Tracy

I can't wait! Thankfully I have a half day at work on Tuesday. If they release it at midday, I'll be getting home just in time. Thanks to a new hair mod up on Nexus, Annick is sporting a lovely new do. And I don't why she's suddenly looking so busty in this particular pic. Debra, no feeling dumb about questions. It was far from clear to me too. You'd be surprised at the things eldest son had to show me at first....... I'm glad you were able to get it set to your liking. I'm itching to get back into it, but so far we are just OBE'd all the time. Mod on ladies

I took a couple days off and came back to read all the comments. Thanks everyone about your advice! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who reloads.
I don't know anything at all about modding. What is the creation kit and how do we get it?

I can't wait for the creation kit. I had a lot of fun messing around with Dragon Age and Oblivion. I can't wait to make dragons more dangerous.

The Dragon Age editor is good for changing around dialogue, but the interface is annoying for editing content. I also could never get the DA editor running for the Expansion Pack, and so my mods always end up half-finished.
I also read that you change the animals :P I want to try and make them like domesticated dogs. How awesome would it be to have a sabre cat follower?

Hmmm, I'll probably try my hand at it one of these days but I won't get my hopes up then. Oh well, I'll have my hands full with modding Skyrim for a while anyway. *lol* Pretty awesome, indeed. Take a look at this tutorial here. It's by a modder named Maigrets who has made lots of animal follower mods. I don't know how much different the Creation Kit will be from the CS but it should get you started in the right direction anyway. http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/tutorials/article/50-my-simple-creature-companion-tutorial/

The Creation Kit and the High Resolution texture pack has been released today. Via a thread on the rphwatch.com you can learn how to get them both. http://www.rpgwatch.com/?rwsiteid=1#18941And the Beth Blog also has some nice info: Best of all, access to the Skyrim Workshop and Creation Kit is free for anybody with a Steam account and a copy of Skyrim.
With the Skyrim Workshop, finding and installing your favorite mods is easier than ever before. Mod-makers will also enjoy a streamlined process for uploading mods directly to Steam.
Finding and Installing Mods
Ready to begin a whole new adventure? Finding mods for Skyrim is as simple as visiting the Skyrim Workshop in the Steam Community. Here you’re able to browse the most popular, newest or highest-rated mods of all time, as well as searching for specific content via tags such as “Armor”, “Quests”, “Dungeons”, and more.
Once you have found a mod you’d like to play, click the “Subscribe” button. Be sure to check the mod description for any special instructions, such as which NPC starts a quest, or how to acquire new items. The next time you play Skyrim, the launcher will automatically install the latest version of any subscribed mods and configure Skyrim to run them. source: http://www.bethblog.com/2012/02/07/skyrim-just-got-even-bigger/

Hi Skyrimmers! Just bought this game and loaded it yesterday. I haven't ever used Steam before and wonder why you even need it. I had no idea this was an online game. L4L, it's not the same as WoW, right? We can't play together or chat while in game, can we? Why do so many people dislike Steam? Sorry for all the dumb questions. Thanks everybody! Andrea

Hi ya Andrea I'm glad you found us. We can't play toghether online but we can chat if we are both playing at the same time by setting up the chat option. Son is not up at the moment, but I'll ask for specific instructions when he is. I'm sure folks dislike Steam for many reasons. Some don't like to be required to be online when playing a stand-alone game. Others don't have enough "net time" to be able to afford to be online to play...for instance those with download limits. I have not had a problem with them though. Let me know your toon's name and I'll add you...but as you know from WoW, I'm not playing anything at the moment.

Can someone tell me if there's an easier way to target enemies? I find it hard to track the ones that are jumping around and hit their sweet spot to bring them down.

Debra, target them for ranged? If so, there is a talent you can take which slows time down and makes it easier to hit.

I'll certainly take that talent then. My cursor moves so quickly that I can't target well and the enemies seem to jump and move like rabbits. I'm getting the game guide to help me. I can't believe it's almost 700 pages! Maybe I've gotten too old to play this type of game.

Hi Rowan, If you go to the embassy, and then go down the rocks to the left of the gate, and onto a path then walk along the path to the right you should come up to the cave. It is not on the world map but if you look at the local map it should be there. Let me know if you need more details

Hi all,
Well I have Illia as a follower and of course my trusty steed Shadowmere and in one of my battles they decided that they didn't like each other very much and started fighting each other. Fortunately I was able to mount Shadowmere and ride off away from Illia and out of her range. I then finally fast traveled to a town and they seemed to have made up and were friendly once again. I had a talk with both of them reminding them that they were on the same side and it seemed to work for a while and then later on another battle they had another disagreement and I had to repeat the same thing all over again. I think I've finally patched things up between them because they seem to be civil to each other now.
Just hope I can keep the peace.

My question is two fold. I have three items in my inventory that I can not store or drop because the message states that they are Quest items. I have completed the three Quest that needed these items. Bard's College Quest-Finn's Lute, Pantea's Flute and Rjorn's Drum. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get them out of my inventory? How do I sell items? I can buy items but I never get the opportunity to sell.

Those item are bugged, they stick in your inventory as quest items even when the quests are done If you are playing on pc, you can use the console to get rid of them after the quests are finished. The codes are: Finn's Lute: player.removeitem 000DABAB 1 Pantea's Flute: player.removeitem 000DABA7 1 Bjorn's Drum: player.removeitem 000DABA9 1 I think you are stuck with them if you play on a console. Caroline.

Kazz, Rown's directions for scrolling down seems to bite a lot of people. It bit me and I was really frustrated! Thanks Carolin, I wonder if a patch will fix it eventually?

Anne, he's a musician. They never come home. Always at one gig or another, hanging around some local dive, or worse, on the road with a busload of bad influences and loose women. Just be thankful he doesn't have any groupies hanging about. True, I forgot. At least I don't have to drag his sorry butt out of the Winking Skeever every night. kazzmo, if you're playing on the PC, there's a mod you can use. It makes any quest item in your inventory able to be dropped or sold. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=8409

The inventory thing gets annoying, doesn't it? I'm now at 10/24 of the stones and getting seriously tired of lugging them around. I've got a bow and a flute or a lute and various other bits and bobs that I can't drop, and it's all quite heavy for my poor assassin. At least I have a big strong companion with me now. I wonder what my poor husband what-his-name thinks about that, though.

Speaking of mods, has anyone tried any of them? I was just looking at the merchant mod on the Skyrim network, and it looks pretty interesting. Maybe next time.
You know, I will never get over Morrowind entirely (I miss the architecture), but this Skyrim sure is addictive. I can see me logging an awful lot of time in there. Especially since I retire this month.

Oh, AnneG, I'm so disappointed that your handmade husband didn't work out. I had high hopes (sigh) Anyway, it's a pretty sad state of affairs when a girl has to make her own fella. I think we should lobby Bethesda for better husbands!

Annie---I think we should too! LOL Hagatha--Congrats on your retirement! And, btw, I've found some really good mods at Skyrim Nexus. Terrific houses and stuff and even one that makes Sven from Riverwood look pretty good. LOL I've discovered a page with console codes for ending your marriage btw if you'd like to go and find someone else. This can be repeated btw, and I've left Farkas for Erik the Slayer now, but he's way too young for me so I'm hoping to find an older guy with that great Balimund voice who is handsome and has hair! LOL Hopefully a mod for that will come out soon. btw--this paper I have printed out does not have the web address for these codes, but I think it's at: http://elderscrolls.wikia.com under Marriage. Tracy, single on and off now and feeling footloose! (I haven't been single in RL since 1989 so you can imagine my character is having lots of fun "dating" again)

Thanks for the list. There's some interesting things in there. I'm definitely using some of these when I start a new game, if I ever finish this one. Edit: Annie, I've had a really rough couple of years and I am so ready to be a child again, only this time I get to do it with some wisdom in my head and some money in my pocket.

hagatha, I'm a mod addict. Bethesda games are great but they wouldn't be quite the same for me without mods. Of the list that debra posted I'm using... SkyUI - does make the inventory much nicer to navigate. Jaysus Swords - I crafted my wonderful Dragonsting Dagger from that mod. Enhanced Night Sky - I use the Colorful Galaxy version. It's beautiful. Glowing Ore Veins - It's handy. Makes the ore veins really stand out. Vurt’s Skyrim Flora Overhaul - Really improves the trees and foliage in Skyrim. The Creation Kit came out last week so the mods are only going to get better from here on out. I've released two house mods so far and many more planned! http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=8587http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=10016Annie, I know, I'm so bummed! I'm thinking of taking some random npc. A miner or something that doesn't have any quests or anything tied to him and try doing it that way. I can make him look like Jorn if I want to. *lol*

Modding can be a pain in the butt but it's fun to make changes in the game yourself. Almost like playing god. *lol* luv2travel - are you getting that unable to get write permissions error when you install? If so, I found a bit about fixing it on the bottom of this page. http://windows7themes.net/tutorial-how-to-use-skyrim-mod-manager-by-nexus.htmlOtherwise you could check the Mod Manager forum over on Nexus. I'm sure someone could help over there. http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/forum/439-open-beta-feedback/

Annie--LOL!! I think mine is too. I'm always talking about leaving someone and looking for someone else now, and my RL hubby just looks at me like, "Hmm....hope she's not planning that in real life!" LOL
Oh btw guys, I was looking for more mods tonight and someone has made a "better" Farkas AND Vilkas. Lord, he did a great job---the guys are GORGEOUS! I might have to go re-marry mine just so I can see that new face of his all of the time. LOL
Tracy, still having lots of fun, wishing she could jump into the computer and live there for real.....sigh

If I could mod I would make the crosshair larger and red in color. The UI makes it hard for me to target enemies and the crosshair gets lost in the whirl a lot.

Me too, Debra! I would like that! I have some issues with the game slowing down on me suddenly, and I am unable to conrol movement as I would like. I am so used to playing WoW and find it hard to get used to how the mouse is used for this game. I don't remember Oblivion or Morrowind being so difficult. Any help is much appreciated. Andrea

Okay, next time I'm am SO going to install some mods and really spend some time working out which characters are marriagable. I'm just a little leery because I'm playing on Vista and I never know whether things will install properly. I don;t know how to trouble shoot in Vista. Yet the laptop itself is so good for gaming I can't replace it. Question - how does one download and install one of the mods? I "subscribed" to one of the mods on the official site, but it has not installed, obviously.

Hagatha---you absolutely should, mods are SO much fun! btw---I'm playing on a desktop running Windows 7, and so I'm not sure if anything might be different as far as mods go, but with mine I just download manually from the Skyrim Nexus site to my Downloads folder, then use Winzip and click on "1-click unzip"and once the files pop up, i click on the file name (the .esp file usually) and drag it into my Skyrim data folder. (steamapps/common/skyrim/data) Then when you pull up the game you can click on the Data Files tab and click on that mod to make sure it appears in the game. (For some odd reason with mine it's been doing that automatically, so unless I "uncheck" something in my Data Files list, every mod I've installed will play.)
Anyway I hope that helps and that you find some great mods to play!
Tracy, who's now eager to either have someone make a mod where you can have more dialog and an auctual "courtship" of somekind, OR to learn how to use the Creation Kit herself. (i'm a little intimidated by it so I'm hoping someone else will make one, but on the other hand, it would be so great to have the characters do and say what I make them do and say. POWER!!!!!) LOL

luv2travel, you are having my problem exactly. When fighting, I end up looking at the sky or between my legs while trying to turn and face the enemy I've had to put it in god mode while doing some fights so I don't die. I could hit them if I could get arranged fast enough.

Cool AnneG. I can't wait to have more conversation options and maybe some actual dating before getting hitched to a total stranger! LOL Have to check out the vampire Marcurio btw---that sounds fun. And btw, I was talking with both Farkas and Vilkas last night (separately of course! lol) and I'd forgotten that they have different voices. Wow. I LOVE Vilka's voice, so I might steal him from you if you don't mind. SIGH So many men, so little time! (or at least I hope there will be so many men....there are so many promising mods so far that I think that we're either going to have alot more men to choose from, OR the ones that exist will be given really nice makeovers!LOL) Tracy

Okay, I've got three mods installed; the one that makes the horses go faster, the ones that shows you markers for all the Barenziah stones (I know, I know, but I got stuck on the last two) and the ones that is supposed to improve merchants the more you trade with them. The horse one is great, and I'll try, next game, not to quicktravel so much. Now I have all the stones, so I'll finally get to see what happens.
I must say, the Guild quests seem never-ending, and I haven't even bought (or even found) all the houses yet. And that's with an unbelievable 247 hours clocked already. Next time I'll be more quest-focused and less exploration-fixated.

Where is the safest site to download mods and are they for the retail disc version as well as the downloaded version?

Hi all! I'm still having a problem with the Script Extender thing for SkyUI, and since I love SkyUI I really want to solve the issue. I can't figure the thing out and am ready to throw a fit! I wish Nexus was as easy to add things to Skyrim as Curse is for WoW. L4L, do you know what to do? Adding mods is like adding add-ons to WoW. Some of them are a big help to the game. I think that the extender should be added automatically when you download SkyUI. Any help would be appreciated. Andrea

Andrea, do you have the Nexus Mod Manager installed? If you do, then you can go back in and uninstall the SkyUI mod and reinstall it. The Mod Manager will put everything where it should go. If you have the mod manager did you enable the SkyUI in it by first highlighting SkyUI and then clicking on the little icon that looks like a puzzle piece in the mods section with the green arrow pointing to the right? If you don't have the mod manager here's the link: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/content/modmanager/Do you have the latest version of the script extender? http://skse.silverlock.org/download/skse_1_04_10.7zI don't know if any of this will help you, but maybe you can try these suggestions if you haven't already. P.S After reading your post over again, it seemed to me that you don't have the extender downloaded. Sky UI and that extender are separate from each other and you have to download each one for SkyUI to work. OK I hope this is my last edit! This is the page I downloaded SkyUI from and it has lots of information on the mod and how to download it. Plus if you still have problems you can contact the author of the mod from that page: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=3863Fingers crossed for you!

Hey everyone. I was just wandering around Skyrim last night and there are always little moments that pop out that I always want to mention, but forget to. Well, it happened again this morning too, I just have to shake my head. You know the guy in Solitude who goes, "Fletching suits me" ? Everytime he says that I want desperately to reply with something snarky like, "Did I ASK you if fletching suited you?" or "Thanks for sharing that. Did you know that I prefer being a warrior to being a mage? I find that slicing up people is much more fun than just casting spells on them!" LOL!!!! Wouldn't it be great if someone made a mod that allowed us to respond to these unasked-for comments? I would SO LOVE THAT! Tracy, feeling silly this morning and realizing belatedly that she's half in love with Balimund! (sorry Annie--LOL) PS Regarding Balimund.....now that I have the console codes to "unmarry", I've been tying the knot with a few other dudes just to see what it's like, and I married Balimund last night only to realize that he abandons his forge and lives in my basement, supposedly having a "shop" there. I want a mod that makes him stay where he is and do his thing, then he can come home to me after work! I actually requested this on Skyrim Nexus so we'll see if anyone takes me up on it.

Andrea, did you get Script Extender from here? http://skse.silverlock.org/The files should be wherever you unpacked them to since they come in a zip file or 7z file, which is pretty much the same as a zip. If you never unpacked them, then that could be your problem. What I would do, if I were you, is just redownload it from that link. Make sure you keep your download box up after it's downloaded, then just double click it. It should pop up and then you can just unpack it all to your desktop. Then bring up your Skyrim directory and just drag and drop them to there from your desktop. And don't put them in the Data folder, where all your mods go. Put them in the folder right before that. Edited to say: Yeah, looney, I've noticed that about these Nords. They all talk a big game but secretly they all want to be kept men.

Andrea, open your SKSE (the script extender) with WinRar or whatever unzip program you use and here's the place to put them when are told to extract the SKSE folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim Don't open that SKSE folder when you extract it to this directory. It should put it's pieces in all the right places when it's moved into the directory. Don't give up. Once you get the hang of it, it's not so bad. I wish I could sit next to you and show you how to do it, but maybe these directions will help a bit more.

Just redownload it again from silverlock. When you double it to bring it up, you'll see a button on top that says Extract To. On the box that comes up, you'll see a list on the right hand side. At the top of the list, it should say Desktop. Left click on that to highlight it and then press OK. That's it, it'll immediately unpack everything to your desktop. Then you're going to go to your Start button on the bottom left corner of your desktop and go to Computer, then double click on where it says OS(C:), then double click Program Files(x86), then double click Steam, then steamapps, then common, then skyrim. That is the folder you want to drag and drop all the Script Extender files to. When you have that folder up, you can take your cursor and put it on the top part of the window. If you left click it and hold the mouse button down, you can drag the window around so it's out of the way of the files you need to drag and drop. Hope this helps.

Looney---LOL! I guess you're right. Maybe he wants me to bring home the bacon and then he can fry it up in a pan. btw---I was playing again tonight and realized that what I really need is a dating mod. Then I can hang out with the guys I like before settling down with them for life! (Imagine that! LOL) Maybe some wonderful modder will help us out w/ this.....I know that I have some ideas of my own but writing is my forte, not graphics so maybe I could whip up a scenario and have a modder do the graphics part. Tracy, who seriously needs to get a life outside of Skyrim!

Debra, I wish you could too. I did what you instructed, I think. When I go into the game, I am still getting the SKSE error message. Am I supposed to start the game elsewhere? Cant find any loader with dot exe file. I find files that say loader, but no .exe. I could call you or you could call me. Let me know. Thanks! Andrea

Thanks so much! Tracy

Andrea, sorry you couldn't get it to work for you and you are welcome for my help anytime. I'm a self taught incompetent where the computer is concerned , but making many mistakes has helped me learn a lot through the years. I'm glad you're not going to let it get you down and you're going to enjoy this massive game.

Tracy -- good heavens, girl, how many men have you married? Besides, my husband, Balimund, I mean?
And I know what you mean about annoying, gratuitous remarks. The one that annoys me the most is the guy in Whiterun who says "Know what's wrong with Skyrim these days?" every single time I walk by him. The answer of course is "YOU are what's the matter with Skyrim these days."

Annoying? Well there's Barbas, the dog, who kept pushing me around all the time until I found a mod to fix that problem. Then there's my follower who, when I'm standing still, runs into me and then says Ow like it's my fault for standing in her way.

Annie---LOL!!! Well, I guess I'm a serial monogamist because I've married: Farkas, Vilkas, Balimund, Erik the Slayier, Belrand (after downloading a mod that made him really cute!), Argis the Bulward, and Calder (after downloading a mod that made him cute too! LOL) So....I've had quite a bit of experience with marrying in Skyrim, and unfortunately, all of the marriages are/were as boring as the very first! I really like some of the guys and of course, some of their faces and stuff, but unfortunately, it's still the same-ol' same-ol' as far as dialog goes. Now that the CK is out I'm looking forward to learning how to make mods so that myself and anyone who's interested can have some dating, flirting, etc. before getting married and THEN having some much better/interesting dialog afterwards. Right now I'd settle for an "I love you" from one of these guys, I swear! LOL Tracy who has so far had only ONE husband in RL, believe it or not!

I have to agree that the marriage I have had is, so far, pretty stale. Hero comes home from several weeks of adventuring and gets, in a flat monotone, "Good to see you, love," from hubby, who barely looks up from his food. Good to see me? Is that all you have to say? I've been out there wandering the wilderness, slaying dragons and vampires and putting my life on the line, dragging home loot so you can sit by the fire and live the good life AND I might add, in case you hadn't noticed - and apparently you haven't - I'm doing all of this in the company of a strapping young man who, unlike you,Balimund, knows how to bathe once in a while. Sheesh. Time to download the divorce mod.

So how many Thief Quests are there? I really have to stop wandering. I've been looking for a new Dwemer ruin to explore - they really are marvellous - but haven't found one for a while. The bottom of the map is largely unexplored and I'm tempted to take a tour, but I have to get on with some quests or this game will take 500 hours!

I had to laugh today - I was in the games store to ask about the DVD version of Mass Effect 3, and the kid in the store gravely told me that if I wasn't in line on Tuesday the game would sell out fast, to which I responded that I was playing Skyrim; he gave me a knowing look and said, "oh, you'll be busy for a while, anyway, then."
Finally, I'm the Thief Guildmaster. If only I had a room there, I could stash everything right where all the stores and crafting equipment are. Are any of the chests safe in the Guild?
The Assasins are just boring - find the contact, kill the target, talk to the Mother. Ho hum. Does anything ever actually happen, or that it? The Assassin Guild was arguably the most fun, in Oblivion. They seem horribly watered down here.

Rowan, I know. Way too much stuff. But that's true of all of the Elder Scrolls games. Next time I'll level up my Enchanting and Smithing skills much faster so I don't have to wait so long for the good stuff.
What I want more than anything is to find some more Dwemer ruins. The whole south-central area of my map is pretty bare still, so there must be a couple I haven't found.
My next game, if there is one, will be much more focused. But the game is worth playing just for the music. I'm wearing very good headphones and at times I just stop and listen.

Maybe I'll grab one of those.
I've been listening to the Skyrim themes on Youtube and found the one I like best. Verrrry moody, wonderful stuff. It's called Skyrim Music - Night 6. Cello and sombre chanting. Perfect for entering dungeons.

Hagatha-I'm intrigued by your music themes--I'm definitely going to check out You Tube soon! Also, I feel the same way about Dwemer Ruins. I hope that maybe some modders feel the same way and will build us more yummy places to explore!
Anne G--I wish there was more to buy in Skyrim too! I would LOVE to pick up all sorts of new clothes, newly-written books, etc. etc. sigh
Hope everyone is having fun and btw---I didn't have my computer for a few days because hubby moved it into the other room and just hooked it back up tonight, so I've been Skyrim-less for a few days. Need to get back in there and what's up!

Tracy, there are now lots of mod downloads, so there might be some new things to spend money on.
There's always a point in every Elder Scrolls game where you just don't need to collect any more stuff, isn't there?. I spend a lot on arrows these days but that's about it.
Maybe someone should invent a mod where you have to pay every time you quick travel (as a donation to Sheogarath?), and the cost goes up as you level up. I do miss the system in Morrowind, where quick travel has to be earned through exploration.

Hagatha--I know what you mean. I feel like I've bought everything and anything I can, and although I still LOVE wandering and looking at the scenery, I wish there were more things to buy. And more quests. Not that I'm not grateful for the way Bethesda tried by giving you lots of extra quests for each faction, BUT, I'd rather have the quests be more meaningful. SIGH I like your idea about paying for travel. I love quick travel in general, BUT, I miss traveling in Morrowind and getting up on those scary bug-things to pay my toll. PS I think I might have to play Morrowind some more in between spurts of Skyrim. I don't think I actually "finished" it, but I did finish the Main Quest and the Mages Guild. I never could choose between the House Telvanni and the Redoran so I did Telvanni last time---maybe next time I'll try Redoran and at least have some "new" quests. Tracy, in love with all the games, just wishing she knew how to tinker around in them!

Mad, remember the Silt Striders? I always thought of them as Stilt Striders. You climbed up a ramp onto the basket on their back and off you went. Otherwise it was a boat, or overland, unless you'd discovered some of the Propylon Indices. I don't think I ever found all of those, but it was fun to look for them, and it sure helped with the travelling.
And of course there was the infamous Boots of Speed + enchantments for those inclined to fly.
Awww, now I miss Morrowind. I love that game. Not the expansions, but the original game still seems just right to me. Dark, dusty and mysterious. I never actually minded travelling overland for everything. But Skyrim and Oblivion seem bigger and I'm less inclined to walk. I was thinking about downloading the mod that disables quick travel for my next game.
Edit: And I forgot the Mage Teleportation services in Morrowind. Anyway, I like that system better than quick travel. You have to work for it a bit.

Hi hagatha Ahhhh !! I never considered the Silt Riders to be "scary bugs". Although thinking about it, I suppose they might appear so to some people Yes, I made good use of the water walking and flying abilities and especially good use of the travelling between Mage Guilds but I really very much enjoyed exploration "on foot" and every time I play Morrowind I revert to it I much prefer Morrowind to Oblivion. [Never did complete Oblivion.] But will have to wait to pass judgement on Skyrim until I have a machine capable of playing it Cheers. Mad

I have now played over 600 hours of Skyrim, I'm embarrassed to admit, so I've decided to immigrate to Morrowind. And while I'm gone, will you all please stop marrying Balimund! He may be an unhygienic layabout but he's my husband. Byee!

ROTFLOL!!!! Have fun in Morrowind Annie! If I happen to run into you I'll say hi. PS I promise Balimund will be true to you---I found yet ANOTHER guy in the Skyrim mods named Bjorn, and OMG, he looks just like the cute blacksmith from Riverwood, except he's single! I used the console to make him marriageable, and right now he's in my little study in Breezehome, cooking up a batch of something---hopefully it's not poison! LOL Anyway, he's delish----now I just have to get on making a dialog mod so we all can hear something more from our hubbies than, "Here...wouldn't want you going into battle on an empty stomach!" LOL! Tracy

Don't fret, Annie. Balimund is safe from me for now. I've married Marcurio from Riften. He's currently keeping a chair warm in one of my house mods, an orc longhouse near Iverstead. The mod players might be interested in this one. It's called Spouses Can Live Everywhere. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=11370#It gives you a spell you can cast that turn any place that you're in into a home that you can send your spouse to. They live in it just like it was one of your purchased houses. Seems to work very well.

Thanks Tracy and AnneG! Hope to see you in Morrowind. I've never played it and I'm sort of nervous.

Hi all,
Well I just found a new helper named Sarah in Whiterun. She is just a normal NPC in a dress with nothing but a daggar. I thought it strange so I went to all the Skyrim sites and even googled her and she is no mention of her anyplace.
I am going to use her for a few battles to see how she acts but thought it unusual that I can't find her mentioned anywhere.

Annie---i was too because I never played Morrowind really all the way through until last year so I was a total newbie, but there are so many great sites along with GB that have lots of help and info, and it really is (for me at least) a great game that I found totally addictive once I got into it! Another thing that might help is there's a great strategy guide. I found mine on ebay but maybe another GB'er would have one here on the Trading Post. Hope you have fun w/ it! Tracy

I absolutely LOVE Morrowind and have played it all through more than once - plus lots of mini plays with it as well The very best site (I find, anyway) for help with the game is HERE Not just a walkthrough but great detailed help [UHS and Banshee both also do really good walkthroughs.]

Thanks Oldman, let us know how she works out. She's pretty worthless. Every battle she gets in she kneels at the first sign of trouble and I have to go rescue her. I went back to Lydia.

Has anyone had any problems today with Skyrim crashing? There was an update this morning, and twice when I've tried to play, after 5 minutes I crash to the desktop. Has anyone experienced this?

JeanK, have you updated any mods you have running?
According to the forums, some folks are having your experience while others are playing with no problems.

I don't have any mods running. I do, however, have Curse Client which I updated for World of Warcraft. It mentioned something about Rift and Skyrim, but I didn't pay attention since I never downloaded any mods for it.
I just checked to make sure Curse hadn't installed anything and it hadn't. So, nope, no mods running for Skyrim. You said other people are having problems?

In the forums, some folks were talking about crashing back to desktop frequently while others were not having problems. There was no solve given there though.

Hmm. Maybe I'll wait for a few days for them to fix it before logging back in then. I just got new headsets and was dying to try them out with the game!

I see everyone's migrated over to Mass Effect 3. I haven't picked up my copy yet - still mesmerized by Skyrim. I'm way up over 350 hours now, with still huge areas of unexplored land. This remind me of my fourth game of Morrowind, in which I eschewed the expansions for a good old exploration game, trying to travel every single road and find every /ruin/cave/dungeon/propylon index. I'm sure I didn't succeed, but the trying was so much fun.
I still like the architecture in Morrowind the best.

Very nice, Anne. I love the juxtaposition of new graphics and old - but just look at that misty dripping Morrowind swamp in the background. Makes me pine for the old days. I might just have to unpack Morrowind and get back into it. I think I miss the bleak north and the Ash storms most of all. And the fully explorable ocean. Speaking of explorable oceans, in Skyrim I downloaded some mods and now I can't actually see underwater. The screen goes gray and I have to reload. I'll have to unpick what I've done and unsubscribe to whatever is causing the problem. Argh. looney4labs, No computer? You must be going through game withdrawal. That's why I now have three computers, just in case the unthinkable happens.

Hey Hagatha---this is about Morrowind so hopefully it's okay to post here, but just had to share that I'm playing it now as of last night, for the second time through and I'm having so much fun. The other time I was a dark elf but everywhere I went I was still "outlander"....now I'm a Breton so at least I really AM an "outlander" when they call me that! LOL Tracy, hoping that hubby works all day so that she can get into Morrowind again for a few hours

Well I'm hanging up my Ebony Sword and putting Shadowmere in the stables for a while. After 650 hours of play I've finally decided to take a break from this outstanding game for a while.
I just loaded Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning and have played through the tutorial. Will post my comments on that thread when I have any.
I'm already missing Skyrim it feels like I'm leaving an old friend after all the hours I've explored and quested in the game. I'll be back when the DLC/Expansions arrive.

Hey, Oldman,
That's an impressive number of hours you've racked up. I'm in the high 300's, myself, and still going strong (though I've taken a break these past two weeks in preparation for a move). I can't seem to get above the level 61 mark. Guess I'll have to start using skills I'm really no good in!
I know what you mean about missing the game. I myself always feel that way about Morrowind; less so about Oblivion. There's never a time when I wouldn't enjoy grabbig my glass armour and sword and delving into a Deadric ruin for fun and profit, and I pine for the ashy fjords of the north.

Wow, Oldman...I'd say you got your money's worth.
Son played Amalur and did enjoy it so I'll be interested to see what you think of it.
Hagatha, when is your move?

Looney4labs,
We move into our new place at the end of July, but still have to sell this house. So much junk we've collected over 30 years; it's more stuff than anyone could possibly need. Reminds me of my shack in Whiterun, only in Skyrim you can just walk away from all the stuff. In real life, unfortunately, you have to deal with it.

We keep thinking we need to move to a ranch style house, but the thought of moving all the stuff is such a horrendous thought. We do take a run at the garage from time to time, so there is always hope! And now back to our regularly scheduled topic

Yes,moving is exhausting. I've tried getting the spousal unit to just pick everything up and cart it off like Aegis the Bulwark, but alas, he is not able to carry 5000 tons of stuff.

Hagatha---LOL! If Argis EVER comes to your house for real, you have to let me know and tell him to come to mine next! SIGH! PS Hubby was in the military for a long time and so we've moved more times then I can even remember. I sympathize with you guys and hope that it goes fast and well. Tracy

Yes, I might just "improve" my fella next time around. Balimund wasn't just dull - he apparently never took a bath. Now, I could understand that while he was working, what with the hot forge and that metal dust and all, but afterwards he just patrolled my house and sat around and ate.

Hello fellow travellers in the world of Skyrim! Like you I am having a lot of fun although I have had to replay a couple of sections several times, largely because of an expired but now reconditioned Xbox 360 (kindly fixed up by Microsoft free of charge despite being over four years old and well out of warranty!). I am here seeking help. I have acquired Viklas's sword as a a result of expressing an interest in joining the Companions, but I cannot find the person to whom I have to give it for sharpening: the problem is that I am not allowed to simply discard it and I need to do so to get into the party at the Thalmore Embassy. Any pointers greatfully received. POSTSCRIPT Problem solved: I tracked down Eorlund at the Underforge.
