Drifting, floating and once in awhile slowly spinnning. "Ah, this is the life" the little snowflake said to himself and started humming the Snowflake Song; Just a'drifting and a'floating all around, slowly falling to the ground...uh, wait a minute...falling! He quickly opened his eyes; "it's true, I am falling...the sky is truly falling and I'm part of it". "HELP", he yelled as loud as he could, which really isn't very loud for just a little snowflake.
"Now, come one, kid. The sky isn't falling. Look around, see all the snowflakes. We're all just drifting to the ground to help clear the air and add extra moisture in the spring".
"Oh, replied the little snowflake. "And I'm not alone...." Thump, and little snowflake landed on the ground. (Actually snowflakes don't thump).
Little snowflake looked around and the ground was all white. He looked at the big snowflake, "What now", he asked?
"Not to worry", said big snowflake. "Soon you'll see children come out to play, and you may be part of a snowball or a snowman, or a snowcastle. Just wait and watch".
Little snowflake settled down, looking around with interest, when he suddenly heard laughter. "That must be children" he thought to himself. Suddenly he saw a large round object moving toward him and fluttered his little star points to move out of the way. But he wasn't fast enough and found himself on top of a snowball and sitting on top of two larger balls of snow.
"See", said big snowflake, "we're part of a snowman".
"Oh, this is nice", replied little snowflake, "I can see for a long, long ways. I feel like I'm on top of the world".
Little snowflake settled down for the winter and was quite content. He could easily watch all the children play and enjoyed every minute of it.
The months passed and one day as the sun shone, it became warmer and warmer.
Little snowflake became alarmed as his world began to get smaller. "What's happening" he anxiously asked the big snowflake?
"Don't worry", big snowflake answered. "Winter will soon be gone and we won't be snowflakes any longer, but will become raindrops. Then we'll be back to water the land so it stays green and crops and gardens can grow".
"That sounds nice", said little snowflake, "I like being here, there's so much to see and learn".
And he slowly drifted off to sleep, dreaming of raindrops.
