http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/66710809/double-fine-adventureI'm not a huge fan of cartoony-games, but I really admire the creativity of this project. I was glad to "donate" to these fellas (I bought the game). watch the video if you haven't heard about it... They won't actually charge unless they succeed funding the project, and one can donate different amounts and get different kinds of rewards... what a cool concept! And looks like it's working too...

Thank you Tomer, our friends at Adventure-Treff published the news just this morning, with a very interesting video.

They got funding only 8 hours after the kickstarter page appeared. This will make those "adventures-are-dead" publishers really, really sad.

To say they got fully funded within 8 hours doesn't reflect the full magnitude of this--they targeted $400,000, a target amount of almost 4x the MOST funded video game projects on Kickstarter. For an adventure game, and they are now over $200K past that, all still within 24 hours of launching!
Take THAT anyone who said adventure games were dead, financially unsupportable!

That's unbelievable! I don't know if it shows that there is indeed a big audience for adventures, or that we all take our hobby very seriously :-)
Anyway, that's beautiful to see. It's funny to think how super talented authors like Jane Jensen need to struggle for years with different producers and lose an infinite amount of money on it, while these guys recruited so much in so little time. I bet Jane would recruit twice as much (or maybe more) if she had thought about this possibility.
Maybe she will! :-) For her games I'd donate a hundred as well, that's how much they mean to me!
Really well done.

Tim Schafer is the best, most innovative game creator out there as far as I'm concerned and I'd be proud and honored to donate $10,000 if I had it. Guess I'll have to settle for donating a little bit less to support the project and get in on a bit of adventure game history. I just wish they'd release the game someplace other than Steam but, if not, Tim is honestly the only one that could tempt me to sign on there. I'm sure he is the reason they've already gone over their goal! Gil.

LOL, Tomer, Jane Jensen is our story consultant for Cognition. Our Kickstarter hit a total of $34,427 after 44 days! Of course, we also didn't have quite the coverage these guys have gotten, nor is our game (or pitch) quite so directly reference her biggest hits. I imagine if there were, for example, a kickstarter for a legit GK4 project, it could do very well indeed! That's unbelievable! I don't know if it shows that there is indeed a big audience for adventures, or that we all take our hobby very seriously :-)

My jaw is still dropping! Tomer, thanks for bringing this to our attention! I've posted and stickied a more formal announcement. (Well, an announcement with links all over the place in it.) I've included a link to this thread which contains the first news! I'm going to lock this thread so we can all stay on the same page while commenting (and with the full knowledge that the lock means that everyone will be sure to read this thread).
