I "snookered" myself in the state tournament over the weekend. In my last game before the money match I nailed the eight but put too much left-draw on the cueball and it sucked into the pocket too. Whoa is me.

Exactly. Obvious shots don't have to be called and you don't have to call kisses or rail contact but all combinations and banks have to be called. Contacting your opponent's ball first is a foul as well as failure to contact your object ball and a rail (or pocketing the object ball).
