But why? This is simply a way to avoid these pesky producers and to be in direct comunication with the fans. They make a lot more money like this, and you on the other hand take the risk by paying before the game is made but trusting the creator.
Buying a game is always a risk, anyway. Even if you've played the demo...

I just saw the video. So she uses gabe from GK3 to make the thing famous, but she doesn't intend to create a new GK? Now that's mean... :-\

Edit: Grrr... I donated 50$... I hope it's worth it!

From Kickstarter webpage:
Will your games include Gabriel Knight?
"We would love to do Gabriel Knight in the near future. Because that IP does not belong to us, it's not a given. Having our own studio, and successfully shipping a title, will make obtaining the rights more likely than ever before."

So by supporting Pinkerton road studio you have increased the probability of making a new Gabriel Knight game sometime in the future. smile

Okay, I've taken a look at the website, and now I'm really intrigued. No longer sure I definitely want to vote for Gray Matter 2 as the other games look equally interesting. This will be a tough decision! It will be nice if we actually get all of those games. And the idea that Gabriel Knight 4 may one day come about is very exciting. happydance

Also, the video on the website is hysterical. grin

Okay, off to make a pledge. thumbsup

EDIT: Pledged. Will pledge more if I can determine how much extra money I will have available mid-May. I definitely want all of those games. lol

I hope it goes well... by the looks of it, it doesn't seem like it has the success Tim Schafer had. Try to publish it everyone! smile
I did... unfortunately none of my friends share my empathy to the cause.

I think it's a slow start only in comparison to the rocket launch that was Double Fine Adventure. lol At the current rate, they should meet their goal, and possibly more if they have some intriging updates.

Have the donations gone backwards? Thought it was 40-odd K from 50 donations yesterday. Now its 33k from over 500 donations.

The more I think about it the less I'm convinced I am right. Perhaps it was 4k and not 40K :-)

It's at $34K now. I think the campaign notice was posted only yesterday or the day before that, so it's doing well for just one day.

I think you're right -- you must have seen it near the beginning at $4K.

While the announcement isn't GK4, doing that isn't entirely up to just her. She doesn't own the rights. And as she says in this Gamespot interview:

"I'm hopeful that we have our own studio and we can show some success, that we'll be able to talk to them about getting the rights to it to do a Gabriel Knight 4."

So supporting the new studio can only make things look even better for getting a GK4 someday! smile

Plus, new adventures from Jane, her finally working independently, doing what she wants to do in her games? Heck yes! Sign me up! (Well, actually, I already signed up yesterday smile )

And no, it's not a Double Fine hit, but that's really akin to saying 'well, she didn't win the lottery, I dunno...' She's made in one day more than what we made in 44 days for Cognition!

I'm contributing first, in the hope of a GK4 and second, of a Jane Jensen game of the same caliber but not on the order of Gray Matter or a sequel thereto.

I wonder what sizes the contributions are? That would give some idea of the number of players/buyers there are for adventure games although some multiplier would have to included to account for gamers willing to buy but not contribute.

8dognight, you can scroll down the kickstarter page and see how many people gave a certain amount of money.

I paid Tim Shafer beforehand because, among other things, I trust him not to hand me a game where the creator has used the cheap, comic book cop-out otherwise known as a "graphic novel look and feel". I don't trust Jane Jensen not to do that. She's a fine writer but she doesn't show a lot of discernment in how her games are presented, from that pathetic ham that played Gabe in GK2, to the horrible 3D in GK3 and the awful comic book graphics interspersed in Grey Matter. I realize a lot of people don't care what the game looks like if it comes from Ms. Jensen, in fact I may be out in the field alone, but if I'm going to spend hours staring at a screen and playing a game, I want to look at something I can stomach and the two games she's offering that show the most promise of being chosen aren't telling me that her discernment has gotten any better.

Gil.

You are tough! Do you like green eggs with that ham? laugh

Err, which photorealistic game designed by Tim Schafer are you basing your opinions on?
