My bro is actually the Civil War expert in our family, but I'll take a crack at it.

-1. What southern city refused to celebrate July 4th, Independence Day, for almost 60 years, because it fell to Union forces on that day after a 47 day siege?
-2. When the Federal government confiscated Mrs. Robert E. Lee´s ancestral mansion where the Lees lived before the war, what use was made of the property?
-3. An estimated 627,000 soldiers died in this war. What was the most common cause of death?
-4. Which Union general was known as "Little Napoleon"?
-5. What was the name of the man that was hanged after the war for his activity at Andersonville Prison?
-6. What disease did President Lincoln contract right after the Gettysburg Address?
-7. Who said, "D**n the torpedoes! Full steam ahead!"
-8. What famous ridge was Gen. Longstreet ordered to attack at Gettysburg in which he delayed?
-9. What physician-inventor devised a weapon for the Union army, which used only twelve of them, that was the prototype of the machine gun?
-10. What was the popular name for the US Rifle, Model 1855, a shorter version of the Rifle Musket of the same year?
-11. Who was an instructor at Virginia Military Institute prior to the war?
-12. What was the first capitol of the Confederate States of America?
-13. "To realize what war is, one should follow our tracks." Who said that on what occasion?
-14. For what Civil War battle was the first African American awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor?
-15. Which battlefield besides Gettysburg contains an Irish Brigade Monument?
-16. Which Amendment to the Constitution provided for the abolition of slavery?
-17. Where did the largest cavalry battle of the war take place ?
-18. As the peace treaty was being signed inside at Appomattox, what tune was the Brass Band playing outside?

Hints:
-#1. Think Mississippi...
-#10. Also the name of a town in West Virginia chosen by George Washington as the site of an armory, and the site of a Civil War battle. H------ F----
-#11. He was accidentally shot by his own Confederate pickets at the battle of Chancellorsville, and died eight days later.
-#13. His "scorched earth" campaign ended in Savannah.
-#15. Also known as Sharpsburg...
-#19. An ironic choice that you might also hear on New Year's Eve

True! Fortunately, it was a mild case.

(BTW, syphilis was referred to as largepox).

True! His home was named Arlington House, and turning the estate into a cemetery was to insure he never made use of it again.

Gen. Robert E. Lee is buried at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Va.

True again, well done! yay

The historical novel Andersonville by MacKinlay Kantor chronicles the grim conditions at the prison, for which he won the Pulitzer Prize.
13,000 Union soldiers died of malnutrition, exposure, and disease. Andersonville is now a national cemetery.
