It's okay to use standard abbreviations like P for pitcher, but using S for soda doesn't cut it. If you go to dictionary.com and type in a single letter, it will provide you with all kinds of words that are represented by that letter. For instance, some words that can be abbreviated to an S are satisfactory, second, Saxon, siemens, sentence, short, signature, small, short, south.... _________________________ We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are.

Agree that s = soda is not allowed per dictionary.com; so may be a good idea to enter this rule in Lex's introduction; as example, Webster's not same as dictionary.com. In the official rules, it is stated/shown that the full answer word must be anagrammed; likewise, that the full answer word be shown in a container clue; however, we all anagram now and then a portion of the answer word; I thought we had all agreed at one point that this could also be done with container clues. _________________________ I'm just an imagination of your figment!

I just checked Webster's and they don't list S as an abbreviation for soda either. Not only that, but it's generally agreed that we'll stick to common abbreviations. Your second paragraph is confusing to me. If you want to manipulate portions of words, you must clearly indicate which portions first and then manipulate.
