do chinese know how to do egg rolls, my husband got this egg roll at one and i ate it and it was terriable, it tasted like it was made by ella mae, from the beverly hillbillys show.

There are several ways an egg roll can be made: ingredients, sauce... It also depends on the province the cook is from.

So you might just be used to one kind of egg roll.

I myself can make an egg roll in 4-5 different ways.

Ah - the shell or wrapping is tough.

There are several skins that can be bought at local grocery stores: egg roll wrap or wonton wraps. The wonton wraps are thicker but have more floury taste but both of them are good fried. (I buy mine at Oriental stores).

So it depends on what kind of taste you like.

I only like egg rolls with tons of chicken or other meat. Hate the mostly veggie kind and especially am sensitive to what most restaurants call 'five spice' which seems to be in a lot of foods. It's a good spice, but overwhelming to my taste buds. I found some frozen pork 'Lumpia', at Costco that is awesome. Good luck with making your own. I don't have the patience.

Yup, just to illustrate the taste thing, I love the ones with lots of cabbage and other veggies! I prefer the egg roll wraps - nice and flaky.

I like the one that ,Drac likes, but I love shrimp in my rolls <YUM>

Ditto to Drac and Darleen...vege are my fave but chicken is okay too. Sweet and sour sauce is good sometimes with them too.

I like whichever is in plain site, and what I'm in the mood for. But usually if it's an egg roll, it's edible. And I usually don't spare the mustard.
