We've reached 20 pages on the previous Name the Game thread, and so I'm starting another one. If anyone would like to view the previous Name the Game thread, you'll find Page 1 of the thread here.

For those who are joining us for the first time for Name the Game, this is the procedure:

One person (hereinafter known as "It") posts a clue to an adventure game. The clue can be simple or difficult or straightforward or creative. Clues can be information about characters or events or puzzles or more (though we do try to stay away from outright puzzle spoilers).

Everyone who wishes to participate can post the name of the game that best matches the clue. If no one has guessed after an attempt or two (or if a day passes with no guesses), "It" gives another clue. The person who guesses correctly then becomes "It" and posts a clue for a different game, and so on. If you've posted a guess, or if you are "It," check back every day to see if you've guessed right or if you need to identify the correct guesser, so the game continues smoothly!

(When thinking up clues, a good place to look for possible ideas is the GameBoomers collection of adventure walkthroughs -- plenty of inspiration there.)

I am currently IT.

Clue #1: Chewed up bubble gum.

Good guesses, but no.

You're an extremely talkative ribcage. grin

James Whitmore. Santa? The only one I remember is Edmund Gwenn...I think.

Where do you find these weird games?? Why do I have a feeling the developer was Og and the game was engraved on stone around 400 BC?

If a skull can talk non-stop, I don't see why a ribcage can't.

This is a recent game, full of sophistication and nuance. I think the developers are named Jay and Steve, though I could easily be mistaken.

laugh

BTW -- Santa Claus IS in Them! He's Dr. Harold Medford. Or something like that. He's decided that Macy's is a bore, and he's gone on to bigger and better things.

I hope everyone appreciates my digging another clue out of you. grin I wonder if there's more than a ribcage on that dust heap. A talkative toe, maybe.

Niteowl07 -- good idea -- the game I'm thinking of is almost as recent as Captain Morgane.

Clue #4 (Clue #5 if you count the nonsense Traveler dragged out of me. Hmmm. The sophistication and nuance comment was a bit tongue-in-cheek.)

Anyway, Clue Whatever:

The purple bear is his lieut (of sorts) and plays the lute. The bear's toe taps, but does not speak.

I have a vague memory of a chewed up bubble gum in Harvest of souls. The rest of the clues awaken however no familiar scenes from the game wink

Correctly you must tread
Or else a sharp doorway
Will make you very dead.

Just curious -- why did they let Nancy keep her cell phone?

You got it Venus! happydance

My reasoning behind my clues which I'm sure you've already worked out for yourselves:

Clue number 1: The "Flapper" makes a brief appearance at the beginning of the game.

Clue number 2: Fashion is important in that you can't get inside the museum's party without dressing appropriately.

Clue number 3: Nose for News -- Laura Bow is a reporter.

Clue number 4: Getting ahead -- Ambitious reporter.
Getting a head -- Finding Ziggy's head.

Thanks venus - very topical! But it was the combination of the last two clues - I can't think of another game offhand where you have to make a decison about what you wear + remembered a location later in the game.

It's pretty, but is it Art?
You'd have to be insane to like that.

Wow, so many great guesses. No one has it yet, though. I'll give a mini clue before I move on to clue 2 and let everyone know that this is not a primarily scary game, although there may be one part that's somewhat creepy, depending on your creep meter. grin

Clue 2: This is a most unusual way to send a person messages. Though I have to make sure I send the right things in the right order to get my intended message across.

Okay, I think the next clue might give it away. smile

My clues are in the order of play as you would go through the game but I guess they must be pretty rubbishy !!!! lol

Well here's CLUE SIX nonetheless ....

"I'll have to disable the house alarm before I can get in but I need a box to stand on in order to reach it. Maybe there is one in an outbuilding ??"

Oops! Sorry to hold the game up! Life has been full of distractions lately, and this went out of my mind completely until now.

First clue:
I'm seeing multi images-
I think I might go blind!
I have to toggle off this view
Before I lose my mind.

I think of it more as 2D with panning, Chrissie, but I guess technically it could be considered 3D.

I'll wait awhile before posting the next clue, just in case my rhyme inspires an answer. wink

And through the maze keep pace.

I love your answer, Sureshot, but it's not those two guys.

Fourth clue:

My job hadn't been too tough

And then it got very rough.

Thanks LadyKestrel!

From the 1st clue I thought it was The Rockin' Dead where you can toggle between 3D which has multi-images (& the need to use the specs) or 2D!

I've never played TSB but it was the clue about the coin for the bus that gave it away as I've been following the playthrough on AGers! lol

Clue 1: To access the info I want I need an ID card. smile

No, I'm afraid smile

This game is younger than Zak McKraken but older than Discworld Noir and The Whispered World.

CLUE TWO :

"There are five areas to visit and they include a castle, a desert and a wizard's tower. "

It's not a King's Quest game, venus. This game was released a couple of years later than KQ5 smile

CLUE THREE :

"Whilst in the desert you will need to visit the Spirit Plane."

Oh, dear. Patience is surely not one of my attributes. Here comes another one.

1. ∞

2. a diabolical plan

3. The knight keeps turning off the light! "I so badly want to swear."

sureshot,

You're in the right time period for the first part of this game. (Hint) But it's not a horror game! (Strangely enough)

Since I'm ever so nice whistle, here's another clue.

1. ∞

2. a diabolical plan

3. The knight keeps turning off the light! "I so badly want to swear."

4. The king must die. He may. He's stuck in superglue.

Bwahahahaha! Yes! Valhalla Classics: Before the War - Episodes 5 - 8.

I can't help it, I love the evil Lord of Infinity. He's so funny, I root for him whatever he does. grin

Jarkeld, do you know if this is (or isn't) the first episodic game? I'm pretty sure it's the first episodic game with speech.

If anyone hasn't played these, why are you waiting? Go get the free game with Infinity's nemesis, The Little Prince, The Crypt. There really is nothing like the Valhalla Classics. ( Mr. Bill likes them, too. wink)

Take it away, Jarkeld!

Ok.

Maybe the spacing in this means something. Slo...ow? Slee...py? Another episodic game?

Just thinking. Hard work.
