Good question, Karsten. I've got the Windows 8 Consumer Preview running on a spare hard drive and haven't gotten to test many games yet. But so far, it appears it's going to play them just as well as Windows 7. I will definitely keep everyone posted - maybe with another post down in the Glitches forum later this year.

Windows 7 won't be outdated for a very long time, Rowan!

@ Rowan Don't worry Windows 7 won't be outdated for a long time, it'll play games etc. for at least 4-5 years or more? perhaps. I'm talking about people like myself who still has a computer from 2003 with XP on it - when I need to replace this computer in 2013 or 2014, I can only get one it with Windows 8, I think? Unless Microsoft decides to sell win 7 for after win 8 is out? I don't thik so, though.

Karsten, you can always try Windows 8 out and if you don't like it, can always buy a copy of Window 7 and install it yourself. Windows 8 is definitely going to be a change for most people. Personally, I really like it, but it's definitely different!

I don't plan on getting a new computer for a couple of years at least, no matter what the O/S.
Worried about playing my older games, I bought a copy of XP a couple of years ago for games that won't play on updated machines. However, the advent of GOG means that I no longer really need XP, though I prefer having physical disks.
My Vista laptop is having no trouble with most new games - Skyrim ran smooth as silk, for exammple. The only games I have not been able to run well are Gothic 3 and Witcher 2, both of which were sluggish and ultimately too much trouble to play on any of my current machines regardless of the system specs or O/S.

I've spoken to my local computer shop (the guys that build my computer nearly 9 years ago). They have a copy of windows 7 for sale as a single product. They can transfer all my settings and info etc. to the computer again...
And even if I'm really happy with XP, I feel its age...

Karsten, since your computer is that old, it might be wise to run the Windows Upgrade Advisor. It will tell you if there are drivers etc. for all your components. As long as all your peripherals are plugged in, it will tell you if they are compatible with Windows 7 also. Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

Hi everyone. I thought I'd jump in a little late in the game and tell KayC and everyone that I've been playing Morrowind on Windows 7 for a few months and it's been doing great with no patches or tweaking or anything. I was thrilled! Just wanted to share that---and to say, I'm not looking forward to Windows 8! Not yet...nooooo! LOL Tracy
