This is driving me nuts.
Using Win7 64 bit, the issue is not basic spec requirements.

When trying to use old saves made in the same game program the new install on this machine does not recognize the saves. It seems to be consistent with windows install.

For instance any game tried using a DosBox install simply pasting in the old saves they work. This includes, GK1, TLJ, Broken Sword 1+2 and Under A Killing Moon.

When installing windows versions of Broken Sword 4 and Culpa Innata saves created from on my XP system are not recognized. Overseer used an indexing file to recognize saves. To add an old or borrowed save you had to make a new save and rename the one you wished to insert to overwrite the one you just made to allow it to be recognized. With that in mind I tried that trick it did not work. The usual naming in sequential order did not help. I had no issues with these saves when using them on new XP installs.

Thinking it may be a location issue I reinstalled each game to the C: drive. Such as C:\Culpa Innata. That placed the save folder in the root directory instead of My documents. It made no difference.

I decided it was a windows 7 issue with saves made on earlier operating systems. Wrong again. I installed Lost Horizon and pasted in saves made when the game was installed in XP. They worked.

Anybody have any idea as to what is going on?

Not having Win7, I can't make tests. Are you sure that you correctly transferred the game saves?

For example with Culpa Innata, each saved game requires two files: Save001.nif, Save001.sav. Your old saves will have numbers which won't be in sequence with your new game but you can change the file numbers and delete current saves to select any slot.
On a WinXP system, these files don't have any unusual properties. I've no idea what Win7 does with unknown extensions. Just make sure they are not Read Only.

Just a comment to make sure all the bases are covered. Having 64 bit Windows 7 does not ensure that there are not system spec requirement issues. A 64 bit Windows 7 system with integrated graphics can have as many problems with games as an older XP system with integrated graphics.

Robert,
Yes, I did what you suggested prior to my posting the questions. That is why I was so perplexed. I have been fiddling with this testing things and made a few discoveries.

You are correct it adds just another wrinkle when trying to figure this out. I discovered by accident what the problem is.

I have 41 saves on an external drive for Culpa Innata. Those are the ones that did not work. I also had them indexed to the Walk Through I wrote for Gameboomers. I found an old CD in my cast off box that had the first 16 saves of that set of 41. I pasted those into the game and they worked. That told me the 41 backed up saves were corrupted.

As for Broken Sword the installed version came from GOG. The saves came from the Australian version of angel of Death. The save formats are not compatible. Renaming did not work. When installing the Aussie disc there were graphics issues. The characters rendered in silhouette but the saves worked when pasted in that install.

Even more interesting the dosbox install of the original BS2 (GOG dosbox version) is compatible with the Sold Out Software disc version. You need to rename them. The Sold Out saves are coded as (sword2alt.000. Rename them (BSword2.000) as they are in GOG and they work.

At least I resolved it. Who would figure the saves were corrupted in the first case and in the second non compatible?

Thanks for your suggestions.
