I am playing the game on a lap top using windows7. I am at the point where I need to solve the puzzle in the floor of the old house, but it is so dark that I cannot see the symbols. I have changed all of the setting but nothing seems to brighten the picture. Does anyone know how I can make the picture brighter?

If you have a video card with adequate settings, you should be able to increase brightness or gamma through the video card settings, then start up the game again.

I have a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 which as far as I can tell does not have any way to adjust the brightness.

I don`t think its brightness or gamma. I had the same problem until I installed a V1.02 patch which you can easily search for. I then saw a lot of other things I didn`t even know I was missing but they weren`t as crucial as the coded wheel. Good luck!

I downloaded the patch, but when I try to install it I get the following error message:

Darkness Within is not installed on your system.
Please install and then run this update.

Do you have any idea how to correct this problem?

There's a Darkness Within v1.02 patch and there's also a Darkness Within 2 v1.02 patch. Make sure you downloaded the right one.

If you have Darkness Within 2 installed and the patch gives the error "Darkness Within is not installed on your system" then you probably downloaded the patch for the first game when you have the second game installed.

I also would like to download the patch for Darkness Within 2. I have been scouring the internet trying find a place from which to download the patch, but it seems that it is no longer available. If anybody can provide that file to me, it would be gratefully appreciated
I downloaded the game from Zodiac, and so far it's been running well, but I understand that there is a "glitch" down the line somewhere which I sure would like to avoid. My OS is Win XP, and I have a Nvidia Geoforce GT 430 video card installed. THANKS!

The patch may only work with the disc version, not the download version.

I DID download that patch, but when I tried to apply it, the message was"The darkness Wihin can not be found on this computer". Notice that it did NOT say DW2. I think you are correct in saying that the patch was only for the disc version of the game.I will eventually get to the alleged "glitchy" part, and I'll let you know how it turns out. Some Boomers who had that problem said it was from the Adventure Shop download of DW2. Who knows?

I have played through the alleged "glitch" part of the game and never had a problem. As you know I had downloaded the game from ZODIAC. It seems that the glitch problem was occurring only with the Adventure Shop download of this game (as per some fellow Boomers who downloaded the game from Adventure Shop). Just thought I would update you on this matter.
