The latest investigation of Sherlock Holmes once again shows more in screenshots !

Quote:
Scotland Yard is relentless in its pursuit of the famous fallen detective, but did not manage yet to arrest the one who was, not so long ago, considered an exemplary citizen and a skilled investigator. Hunted, Holmes still continues his investigation and his questionable doings, right under the police’s nose.

These 4 new screenshots are a beautiful way to give you a larger preview of the game, its dark ambiance, and its strong story centered around a controversial hero with obscure motives. This is a thrilling investigation that players will have to lead, playing as both Holmes and Watson in turns. Multiple bloody murders, a strange illness which started to plague the population of London… these are the cases they will have to investigate upon, all the while trying to discover the reasons behind the strange actions of Sherlock himself.

About the Testament of Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes causes a stir! For over ten years, millions of players have donned the hat and magnifying glass of the world’s greatest detective, in a dozen games for PC and handheld systems. This year, Sherlock Holmes makes a triumphant return in his very first adventure specially designed for the PlayStation® 3 and Xbox 360® game consoles! All the mystery and intrigue will also be available on PC.

1898, London. All the evidence of police investigation points at Sherlock Holmes as the main suspect in a case involving theft, fraud and double-crossings. Unable to prove his own innocence, Holmes is rapidly losing London’s trust as doubt spreads through the city like wildfire. Even Doctor Watson's faith in his friend begins to waver, as the famous detective flees Scotland Yard and raises further suspicion; prowling around at night, destruction of evidence... would Holmes go so far as to commit murder?

A mainstay genre of console games, The Testament of Sherlock Holmes is playable with a gamepad in a third person view, with controls thought and specially developed with consoles in mind. The new game engine was also specially built to display complex scenes and high-resolution textures. The game features lush, captivating environments and truly raises the bar for console adventure games.

The complex and decidedly-mature storyline surrounds a particularly tricky investigation, in which each and every puzzle will challenge both insight and wits! As Sherlock Holmes, you will use the detective’s full repertoire: handle and inspect clues, reenact crimes and use the game’s new deduction system to draw your own conclusions. Choose your questioning approach to catch characters off guard and gather valuable information. Players are facing an open investigation, and must decide which leads to follow and which to ignore.

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes will be released on PS3, Xbox 360® and PC in September 2012!

Thanks Carla -- looks like Holmes and Watson are frequently in danger in this one.

I guess I am the only one that feels the more I see and hear about this game the less excited I am about it. I know Frogwares has been trying and I know what they have said about this game in the past but everything I have seen in screenshots and trailers make it look like one big cutscene after another. Now this announcement makes me even more unsure...

If some players are worried about their ability to play the game because of some sentences written by marketing people (that have nothing to do with the game), maybe the results of the beta test could be shared, and your feelings about the game demo expressed here.

Thanks thehood. Do to time constraints I was not able to finish the beta, but I did play for a bit and it was as wonderful as the previous games. The game is worth waiting for and will not disappoint.

If the trailers make it seem like "one big cutscene", that's only because it's a long game -- 16+ hours. There's a lot of gameplay, a lot of puzzling and a LOT of plot. The interface and navigation are very similar to previous games in the series. If you're planning on playing it on PC, then don't worry, because you won't notice any difference!

The graphics are one of the highest quality I have seen.
The gameplay manipulation is what you already are used to in the other Holmes by frogwares.
The voice actors and the dialogue are superb.
The story and puzzles - just right to keep you playing and keep wanting more.

So get excited with us.

If you have an older computer or older (or slow) video card, you may have to reduce graphics settings in the options menu. But that's no different from a lot of current games. It's probably not going to play on an 8-year-old computer, but it should play on a 4-year-old computer as long as the video card is decent (An ATI Radeon or Nvidia Geforce card that's mid-range or better). With everything turned down, it looks similar in quality to Sherlock vs. Jack the Ripper. But if you have a new computer with a fast new video card, the game has all sorts of interesting graphical enhancements that you can enjoy.

You have your choice of 1st person or 3rd person point-of-view (as in Sherlock vs. Jack the Ripper and the updated version of The Awakening). Very few adventure games give gamers a choice. You can also play entirely with the mouse, or use a combination of keyboard and mouse.

I can virtually guarantee it will work just fine, even at maximum settings.

All I can tell you is that with a Geforce 8800 GTS I had to turn graphics settings down to the lowest settings on the beta to get rid of "sticky cursor" and general sluggishness. Here's a comparison between the Geforce 8800 GTS and the GTX 550TI.

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=647&card2=475

As you can see, your card is quite a bit faster.
I don't know how well it would work at maximum settings, but you'll certainly be able to play the game at better than minimal settings.

@Jenny100, your test lead us to optimize our engine, so now you would not play in low but with average graphics, that look considerably better.
We do tests for this purpose, find troubles and solve them before the release, and players computers configurations are always interesting, as we cannot have dozens of old, new, low and high configs to test everything.
So thanks for your test, you probably allowed many players to enjoy the Testament of Sherlock Holmes better when it will be released.

Can we still play the beta test version? If so where?

Otherwise where can the demo be downloaded from?

I can't find it on the Frogwares website...

The beta testing was done a while back and I believe it is not available now. There were several things that were changed.

I cannot find a demo but you can find the trailers here.
