Hi. Can anyone give me some insight into this game? I bought it at my daughters insistance. Graphics look great but what about action? I don't do shooter or heavy action games. Any input? Thanks, Terri

I'd call it a Darkside game. Here's a video review that should answer your questions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWmLj0SN_hY

Thanks Jenny100 Edit: Terri, there is a review Here. But be forewarned that the review contains a few salty words and some innuendo (nothing you won't see or hear on tv, though that is not all that comforting these days.

I asked a sales person in my local gameshop about this. The young girl I spoke to said she did read about it, and she also said it should be something like Heavy Rain, e.g with a great story etc. But maybe with a bit more action, but only a bit. Anyway from what she has read about it, she'd say it as very good game.
PS: I normally don't mention the gender of the sales person, but I do it here for two reasons, the one is to show my own prejudice against women and games and the other is to show that I was noted and thought I might ask her - and I got the above answer.

I am thinking about downloading it to a PC, I have PS3 but not XBOX. It seems interesting. I am playing Max Payne 3 and enjoying it, Alan Wake is supposed to be from the same people.
Karsten, shame on you ...

No, I wouldd never mean that - that women are not at good as men when playing computer games or haven't as much knowledge of them as men do. Thas is correct. But sometimes it is good to be confronted with one's own prejudices about - ahem - certain things. It functions as a wake up call for the mind - and one - I - can - look at things from a different angle..
Back on topic:
Please let me know how you find this game as I still am uncided whether or not I'll buy this game...

I'll start this game this weekend. I'll let you know if I enjoy it or not. I just finished Max Payne 3 that is very good, it has one frustrating checkpoint since it is difficult to see what one does wrong. An additional frustration for me, dumb me, was that I kept pressing the wrong buttons since it has the aim and shooting in the L2 and R2 instead of the shooters I had been playing with L1 and R1. I understand Alan Wake has awkward controls, I'll be playing it on the PC and hope it accepts the XBOX controller.

First impressions: Interesting and different horror action adventure. Alan Wake is popular horror writer to make his living and somehow the horror finds him.
The sceneries look very realistic and scary if one tends to get scared by games, this is not my case. The action, which includes mainly shooting but also dodging people and objects, is not difficult at the beginning but I understand than later on is more challenging. I have the impression that one doesn't need to be an expert shooter to play and enjoy this game. One would die several times but checkpoints are close.
The XBOX controller works perfectly with the PC which is a plus for me.
I would advise anyone playing this game without experience in something similar to check out, before starting, a walk-through because there are certain things important to find, like pieces of a manuscript. I think these are not essential to advance in the game but it wouldn't be easy to understand the story without reading them. Batteries and guns are obviusly necessary. Other things like Thermos flask I think there are only good for achievements.
