This is not a game glitch, but I was hoping someone here could help or at least point me in the right direction.
I've been using Outlook Express on my 8-year old XP system since I reformatted it last month. I've not had any problems with it.
Since sometime this morning, however, it stopped connecting to my isp/server. When I start the program it automatically tries to retrieve new mail, but gets hung-up. It does not get past the authorizing stage. There is an icon of a little closed lock on the bottom of the screen. I don't remember if this was always there are not. But before, my email was very quick to access and now the isp does not respond. I time-out.
The only changes I made to my system today were to install a game demo which I could not get to work. It was suggested to install MS Net Framework 4 as a solution. Which I did and it did not make any difference. I also downloaded and installed 7-Zip as an extracter for this game demo. It appears to be working correctly.
I'm not sure if I allowed Windows Firewall to be active today or yesterday or several days ago, but it has been a recent change. I tried turning my firewall off and then back on and it didn't change anything. Also turned off Norton Antivirus - again, no difference. Added OutLook Express to the Exceptions for Norton - no change.
Don't know what else to do. I don't think my ISP will be very helpful as they no longer support XP.
Anything else I can try? Is that lock supposed to be closed in email? How would I open it?
I knew I shouldn't tweak my system if a game doesn't automatically work. It always seems to mess me up.
