Blizzard has discovered a leak and North American accounts have the possibility of being compromised. For safety's sake, log into your Battlenet account (do not click links in emails ever) and change your password.

Even with an authenticator, there is still a slight risk so let the changes begin!

Further investigation reveals that, as hubby and I thought, the Physical authenticator (versus using your phone or other methods) has not been breached. However, changing your password is never a bad thing.

Some people were talking about this at guildwars2guru. Somebody said Blizzard has default setting to not require the authenticator, and this person thought this was a bad mistake on Blizzard's part. They also suggested that Arenanet add one for Guild Wars 2.

Yea, when the authenticator first came out you had to enter each time. People complained (of course) so they changed it to only be required randomly, though it was still supposed to be authenticating using your ip address (I think). Then people complained about that. Now there is an option to require the authenticator each time.

Guild Wars 2 should most definitely look into it, the world being as it is.

Looney, I didn't know about the option to use the authenticator each time for logging in. Where can I find this option? I don't mind entering it each time to keep myself safe.

Lindy, log into your account at battlenet.

Click on "Account."

Scroll down to "Security Options" on the left hand side.

Click on "Manage Security Options."

There is a box to check there to require it each time. I hope that helps.

Just saw this today. I really appreciate this information!

You can now also change your Secret Question, which is a good precaution to take.

I did both yesterday. I'm just recovering from ANOTHER virus/hack attack so, knowing this may keep me from another expensive trip to the computer repair shop ($175 last time ).
