What a great little game! I tried the demo and was able to complete it without help! Unusual for me... Will be buying this one when it is complete. -- I thought it had a great funny/cute factor!

Maybe they would get somewhere if the computer stopped using big words like "obviating."

Hi everyone! So glad to see that people have been enjoying the demo so far - this is our first ever release and we had the odd problem on the release date itself, so pretty relieved it seems to have gone so well overall...

Ana - thanks again for posting this! Sorry you managed to exit the game (how?!? Can you email me what happened just in case this is some weird bug we never found?) - are you talking about the Quadcorder?

SharonB - glad you enjoyed it and found the difficulty level about right. Could I ask how long it took you to complete the demo?

Becky - Zero-Bit's vocabulary is absolutely NOT the problem here!

CaptainD - I think it said 88 mins. I'm never fast. Once I figured out the logic it made sense to me. -- What does that say about me!

Loved the allusion to Space Quest, another of my favorite series.

SharonB - the only other time I had so far was 42 mins 33 seconds, BUT that was another adventure game developer who achieved that time - and from personal experience, I think designing adventure game puzzles makes you better at solving them!

I was aiming at around the hour mark as a very loose estimation of the completion time for the demo, so it seems so far that I wasn't too far out.



What particularly did you like btw? Most of the allusions I threw in were to skiffy shows / movies and LucasArts adventure games - I was never as much of a fan of Sierra games myself.

CaptainD, yes it was the Quadcorder. I was having fun trying it on everything evwen though I don't think it needed to be used yet.
I believe I just clicked outside the game box by accident and it closed the game. If I have time today I will try it again.

Yep unfortunately you get standard responses to pretty much everything with the quadcorder right now (though it DOES serve a useful purpose in the demo - in fact you can't complete the demo without using it) - but for the full game I want to add more fun responses to using the quadcorder on stuff.

I love when a game gives you "funny" snarky responses when you do things that are unlikely to result in the correct action you were looking for. Most times developers fail by making them too insulting but when it's done well it can lead to some chuckles that make you want to do more goofy things.

Well we definitely want to include more of those!

Insulting the player isn't something we want to do... although it may seem like that as Captain Disaster often gets insulted, and he IS the player character!

With a name like Captain Disaster you have to expect that!

@CaptainD -- I don't remember exactly. It was just something about Roger Wilco being a Janitor/Captain on Space Quest. The tone in this demo reminds me of the tone in Red Dwarf. Sarcastic, but funny and forgiving with it. That's the best I can put it.

Anyway, I think you're off to a great start and I look forward to seeing the whole game. Keep up the good work!

I watched the trailer. Looks like a fun little game for sure!

I'm curious... has anyone found it tough to get the ring? (It's part of the hand scanner puzzle) - I only ask because the last 2 comments I've had on the game on the AGS forums mention that they're stuck. I didn't think it was that difficult, but if people are genuinely struggling with it we may add a subtle hint somewhere in this section while developing the full game.

I haven't had a chance to play again CaptainD, but if possible, I will tonight and let you know.

When you've completed it, can you post your time for me? I'm interested in how long it takes people to play through it.

Fun game! Looking forward to the full version also. I've been at it for about 80 minutes (with breaks), and have fixed up my hand less the ring, which I simply cannot find! What am I missing? Subtle (or not so) hint anyone?

I hope that helps without giving it away too much!

EDIT: Well CaptainD, I thought you'd like to know that the timer said 116 minutes, but I really only played for like an hour when I finished....left the game up while I took a lunch break. Anyway, great fun! I'll be watching for updates on the full release!

That's good because I had planned the demo to take about an hour to complete!

I know what you mean about game timers too - Steam's timer frequently adds on hours to my game completion time because it's still on while I have to do other things.

Also, if you encountered anything that you felt was crying out for a funny response / something you were disappointed by when you got a generic response, please post about it in this thread too. I'll try to make sure, as much as possible, that everything players felt really deserved a unique response actually gets one!

I played it and I LOVED it!

This is a request for a favour from people who have played the demo (whether or not you liked it!) - could you possibly head over the the AGS Game Page and give it a rating? We've had 224 downloads so far but still not enough ratings for the system to give it an average (I believe 5 is the minimum number).

You're going to be busy! Thanks for another game in the company of Disaster.

It's been a while... just popping in to say that Act I is fully playable now (though not voiced and beta tested), and Act II shouldn't take us too long to complete. Our artist for Act III says he's planning on getting the assets done by the end of this month so we're still looking (reasonably) good for a release at the end of 2014.

Wow, Sandy - I'm so sorry that I never saw your original question to me, and many thanks for Ana for answering it. (For the record, I often get messages like that when downloading builds from my dev buddies - I think it's mainly because there's an executable in there that the scanner doesn't recognise.)

A small update on the game:

Acts I and II are completely playable now, have been tested but I don't have the formal test reports as yet.
Act III is in progress, with the backgrounds being done by the somewhat famous indie adventure game artist Ben Chandler! (He works for Wadjet Eye Games now, but was allowed to complete projects he'd already signed up to - thanks Dave and Janet!)

Potentially the most important news is that I'll be demoing this game at AdventureX this year, which is being held on 5th / 6th December at South Bank University.
