I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and Rhem 2 locks up every intermittently or stalls. Is anyone else having this issue or can anyone help me with this. Attached is my DxDiag though I don't believe it will be too much help due to the age of the game.

Thank you in advance;
MJG

welcome mjg.

I will move you to Glitches - our technical forum. The experts there will give some ideas.
They know this game.

My guess is that it's having a problem with your dual processors. At least that could explain why it occasionally locks up. Setting the game to use compatibility mode may help --
Right-click the Game Shortcut, then Properties.
Select the Compatibility tab.
Set the game to run with compatibility set to Windows 2000 or XP and OK the change.

If that doesn't work, try setting the affinity of the game to a single processor, and set the affinity of the QuickTime the game uses to the same single processor. There are instructions for setting affinity on the ***Legacy Games and Hyperthreading*** page.

Also, make sure the lockups aren't being caused by an antivirus or anti-malware program doing real time scanning while you're trying to play the game.

I know this probably won't help much, but my system is Win7 x64 also and I had no problems running Rhem 2. So it's not necessarily the dual processors that is the problem.

Good luck.

And also was it the original version of RHEM 2 or an updated version?

Hi all.... just popping in to say that I can't help but look at the Rhem threads when I see one. I'm intrigued by the game. The questions asked make it seem like it is a very hard game.

Keeping in mind that some of the older games seem to be (perhaps) problematic for some, and I have a fairly new Win7 laptop (Toshiba Qosmio) - if I were to choose just one of the 4 Rhem games to play - which one do you suggest that I put on my wishlist to buy?

Windows 7 sometimes puts game saves in strange places, like the AppData\Roaming folder. AppData is a hidden folder, so you're probably not going to find it by browsing. You have to type the location directly in the Windows Explorer bar.

LadyCav, the RHEM game that will probably work the easiest on Windows 7 is probably the latest one, RHEM IV. However any of the others will work fine inside VirtualPC and some gamers have gotten them to work natively on Windows 7 as well (depends on computer configuration). Also, I think it was RHEM II where when it first came out, the installer didn't work and people had to copy folders manually from the CD (as directed in the Readme) to install in order for it to work.

Games also sometimes call saved games names that to do not contain the game name. deleterman, I found this post by MaG in an old 2006 thread here on Gameboomers.

Quote:
Open the Rhem 2 folder.
Then Rhem2_E folder.
Then DATA folder.
Last open DPOT folder.

Place all those saved games in that folder.
Close all the folders and play as usual.
You should see the saved game.
Also be sure that each number has 2 text files - one a and the other b. luck

The thread is here... Rhem II Saved Games Location

Thank you very kindly, Jenny100. I've seen you reference VirtualPC in the past, but I've never looked into it or researched how hard it is to use. I'll put Rhem 4 on my list to look at after SH6. Thanks for the reply. smile

There are instructions for using Virtual PC 2004 ***here at Gameboomers***
and for using Virtual PC 2007 ***at the Metzomagic website***.

For XP, you can use either one, but for Windows 7, you'd need Virtual PC 2007.

They can be downloaded from Microsoft, but the downloads are easier to find at
http://www.oldversion.com/Virtual-PC.html

You'll need a Windows CD (95, 98, or 2000) to install Windows inside the virtual computer. If you use an XP CD, the XP on the virtual computer will either expire or use up an activation.

Gee, too bad I threw away all the old windows CD's when I was cleaning out stuff in my recent move to a new town a few weeks ago. Too much junk. frown
But thank you anyway. smile I'll read through the links you have provided and see if it is something I think I could do with limited technical knowledge.

Hi, I know I'm late with my way of playing this fantastic game on Win 7 64.

1. Copy the folder Rhem2e from the first cd to a new folder say Rhem 2 on the computer.
2. copy a quicktime file (quicktime.qts) dated 2011-05-11 5,77 mb and put it in the same folder.
3. Download and use Quicktime version 6.5.2

Thats it, play and be happy

Thanks for the fix, Lagavulin.
One question -- where do you get the
"quicktime file (quicktime.qts) dated 2011-05-11 5,77 mb"

Does it appear on your hard drive after installing QuickTime 6.5.2?

Also, the current version of QuickTime for Windows seems to be QuickTime 7.7.3. Any idea if that version will work if you find and copy the proper quicktime.qts file to your RHEM2e folder?

duh

First sorry the date's wrong should be
2011-01-11 and I think I got it on a Myst forum with problems like this with Rhem BUT dealing with Riven and MystMasterpiece. At the moment I have not been able to find the site but I'm searchin. I do not know if The later Quicktime program works with Rhem 2 but I do not think so. Except for the new release in 2010 Trilogy(Rhem 1-3) for Lace Mamba wich uses QT 7.

There is also a good chance to get it to work, installing the QT on Rhem 2 and as I mentioned copy the .qts file in the Rhem folder.
thanks
