Yesterday I found Siberia parts 1 , 2, &3 for my Mac and purchased all 3 parts. This was my first purchase with Big Fish, and in my eMail today I got my purchase confirmations and a message that I am going to be billed monthly $6.99 just because I signed up for a purchase. Is this correct? All I wanted to do was buy a game, which is going on my credit card. I did not intend to sign up for a monthly membership fee. How can I stop this? I am not happy.

Hi SuMac -- you can find out how to cancel your membership here.

As I recall, when you go through the purchase process, there's also a line that allows you to opt out of the membership as you purchase. I don't remember exactly how it's done, though.

I opted out of the membership for the first three or four games I bought there. Then I realized I was going to be buying a lot more games there, so I kept the membership.

SuMac, on the left side of the purchase window, unless it's changed, the are one or two check boxes. One of those check boxes is for enrolling in BFG's membership, and it's pre-checked. The next time you purchase a game, make sure to uncheck that box and you won't be charged for BFG's membership.

You are not the first person to have this problem, and this practice has been in contention for some time. Any time you buy a game, or anything else, before clicking buy, make sure to scan the window to make sure you aren't going to receive anything you don't want. Don't be in a hurry, check carefully.

Thanks for the quick replies. I reread my email and it says I can go to My Account on the website and cancel at any time during my one month free trial. It never even occurred to me that they would charge a a monthly fee just to buy games. I probably won't be buying any more - the games for Macs look mostly to be casual games. That's why I was so excited to find Sibera.

SuMac -- the monthly fee is used to buy one game. So if you know you'll be buying about a game (or more) per month it makes sense to be a member.

If you know you won't be purchasing at least one game a month, then the membership doesn't make sense for you. smile

Like Becky said, the $6.99 per month is for a credit that you use to buy a game. If you don't buy a game that month they continue to accumulate. Be forewarned though, BigFish can be like a disease... I find myself mindlessly playing a hidden object game all too often. rolleyes wink

SuMac, you don't have to be a BFG member to buy games. You can buy games any time you like, just make sure to look over the buy window carefully and uncheck any options you don't want.

One advantage of being a BFG member is that you're able to buy new games a day earlier then non-members.

Wincey -- from what I understand, Syberia 1 and 2 were broken up into 3 parts when released on Big Fish Games recently. There were also some minor changes to the game(s), though I'm not sure exactly what they were.

Also, adding to what Becky said, the three parts will cost more than than buying Syberia 1 and 2.

Thanks for all your advice about Big Fish. Apparently I've already earned a free game. They're doing their best to get me hooked.

About Siberia: The three parts I purchased were all Siberia 1. (And because I was a new member I got the first part for $2.99) I've only played a little of it so far and I've already noticed that some things that were in the original have been deleted from this downloaded version. I hope it's not too abreviated, because it was such a good game when I played it years ago. Anyway, I just wanted to try an adventure game on my new iMac, and it looks great.

What was deleted? You'd think that by dividing it into three parts that they could have included everything.

GOG has just recently decided to offer Mac games.

Other than Botanicula, they don't have much resembling an adventure game yet, but at least it's a start.

In the opening in the village the game wouldn't let me go down the street to talk to the baker; I could only go as far as the notary's office. I also remember doing some kind of puzzle with the stuff on the notary's desk and that was eliminated. I'm following the walkthrough from the original and I'm just about to enter the factory.

You can't save any games, you can only continue from where you last quit. Not as good as the original, obviously, but better than no game at all.

I have the first two parts of Syberia downloaded and have played some of the first part on my iMac. Since I never played it before, I have no point of comparison, but I am enjoying it.

By the way, SuMac, the MacGameStore has lots of adventure games for us, including most of the Kheops games.
