I too was rigorously trained to type two spaces after a period. But if you do that in a document that's meant to be posted on the net (like a GameBoomers' review, for instance) it plays havoc with the margins.

here on Wikipedia. Apparently the traditional way to use them is to put a space before ... and after ... them. But I've read that it's becoming more common not to use the before/after space...because the spaces cause coding problems.
I have no idea why. Maybe an expert can explain it.
