I am trying to play Treasure Island on my Windows 7 with all the latest drivers, updates, etc. Does anyone know the secret of getting it to run? I have tried all the compatibility options. It loaded just fine, but won't open. I have turned off Norton and done all the instructions have asked me to do, yet it just won't open.

Thanks,
Marilyn

It seems to be hit and miss, some report it does play and others not. If this is a Bigfish download, you might open a ticket to their tech support.

Does it just fall back to the desktop when you try to start the game?

Hi InlandAZ, No, I bought game at Target. The game won't open at all when I click on the desktop icon. I have tried changing compatibility, but nothing. Have reinstalled game, but no difference.

When you installed the game, did it install to the Program Files folder? For the 64 it version that'd be Program Files (x86). If so, uninstall the game and reinstall it in your folders (C:\Users\your user name

As an alternative, try running the game elevated - Right click the shortcut and select Run as Administrator.

Thanks InlandAZ for all your help. However, after doing as you asked, nothing changed. I have given up and have decided just one more older game I won't be able to play. Such a shame because I think some of the better games are the older ones. Oh well....Thanx again.

There is one more thing to try after uninstalling the game completely. Go to the drive containing the DVD or CD; find the setup or .exe file; right click on it and choose Troubleshoot Compatibility. I've gotten several games to run that way when they wouldn't any other way.

Gardens put to bed for the winter. Time for some gaming!

You might want to try installing DirectX 9.0c and see what happens. Generally games that require it prompt you to install it, but not always.

Microsoft - DirectX Web Installer

Another thing to try might be "installing" the game in compatibility mode instead of just running it in compatibility mode after it's installed. Change the Setup file on the DVD to run in compatibility mode before right-clicking it and running it as administrator to start the install. Also, make sure your antivirus is off before installing. I seem to remember something about the game not installing or running well with antivirus or software firewall on in the background. (Disconnect from the Internet before turning off your antivirus.)

Thanks Jenny100 for your help, but nothing changed. However, I just loaded game onto old XP and it runs just fine, so all is well. Have a great weekend.

Sometimes using an old computer is the easiest.
Enjoy the game.
