Diet soda is the devil! I went from 12 cans a day to none as of December 2nd last year! I haven't had a sip since.

Wow, 12 cans a day?? That's a lot. What have you replaced them with? Do you drink any regular pop now?

Interesting article! I don't drink diet soda. It has always made me sick.

Niki, I am clearly in far better health from giving it up.

I recently ceased drinking Diet Coke sweetened with aspartame (sp?). I now drink it sweetend with Splenda. I usually have 2 to 4 cans a day. Now, I have decided to quit the diet soda completely, and have bought a Soda Stream to make my own soda that's sweetened with cane sugar and not corn syrup sweeteners, and expect to drink far fewer than I was.
I truly believe that the article was right about it making my body crave sweets and making me eat more sugar.
My goal is to do exactly what Ana does, and only drink tea and water.
I really think I was addicted to the regular Diet Coke. It was essential for me to make these changes. Thanks!

I think it's great you quit Ana. rah

I'm wondering what your process was. Did you slowly decrease the amount or perhaps go cold turkey? turkey

Did you enjoy tea before quitting or develop the taste for it after. Is green tea much different than regular tea?

I tried tea decades ago and found I didn't like it. Neither do I like coffee. I wonder if I might prefer the taste of green tea.

It would be really great if I could kick this addiction and would save me a lot of money for sure, but I'm under a lot of stress right now and not sure I can handle the additional stress this would cause. As it is I am forced to go on a diet. Which is causing me much grief. smile Not to mention hunger... laugh

Anyway, I have to address certain health issues myself and I would like to know how others were able to quit. It may prove necessary for me to go to water as my main drink if I can't find something else I like which is not harmful.

Last Dec 2nd I made a commitment and quit cold turkey. After a few days of withdrawal it's all smooth sailing. I make a sun tea jar of green tea and then chill it. I drink it all day long. YOu get used to it and it has health benefits.

A change of healthy eating does not have to cause stress, nor hunger. Basic blueprint is to make all food from scratch, no packaged goods with additives and make 50% of your food at each meal vegetables, one fruit and 4 ounces meat (about the palm of your hand.

If you drink water and tire of it, squeeze a lemon in it, put sliced cucumbers in it, take a pitcher of water and place berries or watermelon chunks in it and let it sit. Just a few healthy ideas...

Well I decided not to do it right now. I just can't handle the loss of soda on top of everything else right now. I am trying to cut back on food with some success.

Today I walked to the Walgreens and then down to the Food Lion and then home again. This time I was offered a ride by 2 different people who saw me walking with groceries. I was very grateful to them but refused. Nice as a ride would have been I really needed to keep walking for the exercise. There's no way I'm going to rebuild my muscles/strength without continued walking. So I keep finding reasons that I need to take a walk. smile

I think I'm going to take up bowling again. The walk is reasonable and it will give me a reason to get out and have some fun at the same time.

On the computer
When she was in her 30's Mom used to bowl on a Monday night ladies league (this was in the early to mid 1960's) and after bowling they'd all go to the Elbow Room (a pub/restraunt) and all the league ladies would order a basket of fries and share it among themselves and socalize at 11 PM (if I'm not mistaken) then she and Dad bowled on Tues nites from 9 PM - 12 midnite when they were in the Tambritzans (this was in the 1970's) and they'd bring me along to the alley where I'd sit on the sidelines talking with the bowler's wives or reading paperbacks (didn't have computer stuff in these days).

Ana, I have been wanting to quit drinking pop (especially Diet Coke) for a while now. This was a good incentive. I started today. I'm drinking iced tea that I brew myself. I've tried and failed a couple of times so I hope it will stick this time.

Be careful of regular tea, it causes kidney stones and other ailments if you drink too much. Green tea or herbal teas are a better choice. good luck to you, you will feel so much better!
