Always wanted to play it again, but afraid of bashing head against wall to get it to run by tweaking XP.Thanks to GOG, am playing Thief after all these years on WIN 7.
This is such a great old game-a first person "sneaker", groundbreaking in it's time.
Even with the older, blockier graphics,it has you on the edge of your seat with great sound effects and humorous dialogue. The black and white cut scenes before each chapter are first rate. bravo
If anyone on the planet hasn't played it yet they are missing one of the great classic adventure/action games.
P.S. my review is still in "Boomer reviews"
Any fond memories of Thief?

finished Gray Matter, playing Alice Madness returns and Deponia

Love the series (mainly I/I Gold, II and 2x). I replay them at least once a year.
I do have a glimmer of hope part IV will be more like the older Thief games.

Loved getting lost in the Lost City.

Always fun to replay a game we once loved and discover that we still do. wave

I've never stopped playing Thief, but then I am a fanatic. grin Once a taffer, always a taffer.

In fact, two years ago I bought a laptop and installed XP on it specifically so that I could play Thief and Deus Ex and all of my older games without trouble.

Bigmamma, are you also playing the mods? There are some fantastic ones ones out there now, as good as or even better than the originals, some of them games within themselves. Which reminds me, I haven't checked in for a while to see what's new.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I'm a huge fan. Anyone play this unofficial expansion that was released about a year or two ago? It featured cutscenes, new missions, a new protagonist and everything...I just couldn't get it to work. frown

Thief 2x works like a charm, sometimes after a bit of work on the .cfg file.
Which version do you have: CD, GOG or Steam?

I have the CD version. Might try to get it to work again someday.

I downloaded T2X from TTLG. It played fine on XP except for one spot near the beginning, but I was able to get by it without much trouble. TTLG has some great fan missions.

Drizzt:
I just had to fix the darkinst.cfg to use ..\ in stead of the long path names (assuming T2X is located in the Thief 2 directory):

cd_path \
install_path ..\
language english
resname_base ..\t2x+..\RES
load_path ..\t2x+..\thief_2
script_module_path ..\t2x+..\
movie_path ..\t2x\movies+..\MOVIES

So, regarding T2X, I'm sure I downloaded it ages ago but didn't try it because I couldn't work out how to get it to run.

Does it work off Darkloader like other FM's? And is a specific version of the game required? I have all sorts of versions of the game, the original un-patched disks, two already-patched versions from compilation disks, and the GOG version. I could do with some new taffing.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

Hagatha, did you you get it to run?

I installed 2x to the directory where steam installed T2. Most problems are dealt with by applying the config fix.

L4L, I haven't had time to try yet because we have some stuff happening at home (my very old kitty is not well). I'm glad I've been reminded of this mod, though. I've wanted to play it for a while - new Thief is always welcome, in my book.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.
