What very mysterious things days were. Sometimes they fly by, and other times they seem to last forever, yet they are all exactly twenty-four hours. There's quite a lot we don't know about them.

Remember black & white TV?

Black and White (Under age 40? You won't understand.)
You could hardly see for all the snow,

Spread the rabbit ears as far as they go.
Pull a chair up to the TV set,

'Good Night, David.
Good Night, Chet.'

My Mom used to cut chicken, chop eggs and spread mayo on the same cutting board with the same knife and no bleach, but we didn't seem to get food poisoning..

My Mom used to defrost hamburger on the counter and I used to eat it raw sometimes, too. Our school sandwiches were wrapped in wax paper in a brown paper bag, not in ice pack coolers, but I can't remember getting e. Coli.

Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a pristine pool (talk about boring), no beach closures then.
The term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school PA system.

We all took gym, not PE...and risked permanent injury with a pair of high top Keds (only worn in gym) instead of having cross-training athletic shoes with air cushion soles and built in light reflectors. I can't recall any injuries but they must have happened because they tell us how much safer we are now.
Flunking gym was not an option.... Even for stupid kids! I guess PE must be much harder than gym.
Speaking of school, we all said prayers and sang the national anthem, and staying in detention after school caught all sorts of negative attention.

We must have had horribly damaged psyches. What an archaic health system we had then. Remember school nurses? Ours wore a hat and everything.

I thought that I was supposed to accomplish something before I was allowed to be proud of myself.

I just can't recall how bored we were without computers, Play Station, Nintendo, X-box or 270 digital TV cable stations.

Oh yeah... And where was the Benadryl and sterilization kit when I got that bee sting? I could have been killed!

We played 'king of the hill' on piles of gravel left on vacant construction sites, and when we got hurt, Mom pulled out the 48-cent bottle of mercurochrome (kids liked it better because it didn't sting like iodine did) and then we got our butt spanked.

Now it's a trip to the emergency room, followed by a 10-day dose of a $49 bottle of antibiotics, and then Mom calls the attorney to sue the contractor for leaving a horribly vicious pile of gravel where it was such a threat.

We didn't act up at the neighbor's house either; because if we did we got our butt spanked there and then we got our butt spanked again when we got home.

I recall Donny Reynolds from next door coming over and doing his tricks on the front stoop, just before he fell off.

Little did his Mom know that she could have owned our house.

Instead, she picked him up and swatted him for being such a goof. It was a neighborhood run amuck.

To top it off, not a single person I knew had ever been told that they were from a dysfunctional family..

How could we possibly have known that?

We needed to get into group therapy and anger management classes.

We were obviously so duped by so many societal ills, that we didn't even notice that the entire country wasn't taking Prozac!

How did we ever survive?

LOVE TO ALL OF US WHO SHARED THIS ERA; AND TO ALL WHO DIDN'T, SORRY FOR WHAT YOU MISSED. I WOULDN'T TRADE IT FOR ANYTHING!

Good morning one and all........and all for one . wave12 Has anyone seen my other arm?? I know I left it somewhere in the diner. wink12

I think I was trying to show someone that I could draw a blank with only one arm. thumbsup12

Oh! Maybe it's tied behind me. idea

Today is another mid-shift for me. thumbsdown

I'm tired of being the middle man already, but doing a mid-shift is better than being shiftless I guess.

BODDA BOOM! rotfl12

It's also MUCH better than closing. taz

The only time I like closing is when my sister is at the door, and I'm closing it in her face. woot

Have a happy day everyone.

C'mon Joe, you know you miss your sister!

I hope your day is wonderful.

I am going to an appliance company in the afternoon to check out a new prototype of a washer and dryer and get 100 dollars to tell them what I think. Can't beat that deal, can you?

Have a happy day everyone!

Definitely a trip down memory lane for me. I've seen a similar post somewhere about how was it possible we survived. The one that stuck in my mind was that we never wore bicycle helmets. Times do change.

Good morning everyone and from here good night.

Terrific Tuesday ya'll puppy

Skymonkey woke me this morning going "wuff" in response to the dogs next door. I silenced him quickly but was awake and figured if I went back to bed, it would be noon before I woke up again.

Anyway, I will be pretending it's Monday and cooking the books. My exact cooking method has not yet been determined but as it's supposed to be very warm today, it might be grilling outside.

Joe, thanks for the memories. I do indeed remember doing a lot of those things and think the current generation has lost a lot by not being able to do most of that.

Gail, will be lifting you up.

Good morning Joe and all Gameboomers! wave12

Yes Joe, that does bring back memories.

Gail - Sorry to hear about the Chemo. My sister went thru it 4 times! She is currently cancer free. Her last diagnosis of cancer said she had multiple head tumors and they said she didn't have much longer. But she pulled thru it and astonished her doctors when the tumors disappeared. She is still going strong. My prayers are with you. Remember, attitude is everything! rah yay12

3Dobermans - How lucky you are to have your protectors and friends. Be safe.

Ana - Nice to be asked your opinion, but to be paid for it?? Super cool! cool

Connie - Best wishes and prayers for your husband. Bacon sandwiches? I'm drooling. Thanks! hearts

Once again, I have much to do. I'm hungry and wishing for bacon sandwiches now. Looking forward to Thursday. I'll have my rental car then and will be able to buy lots of good stuff to eat! burger yay12 I also have a doctor's appt that I'm dreading. The last time I had this test was very hard on me. Maybe this time will be better.

Happy Tuesday everyone! yay12 penguin

Gee Joe, I wanted to say thanks for the reminisance, reminisence, remminissence, reminnissance, but couldn't spell it! Was fun to think about way back when anyway. Thanks Joe!

Mailed off my Christmas Cards. I include a lottery ticket (scratch off) in each one for the recipient. It's always fun to see if anyone wins anything. Usually my sister (who has awesome luck) gets 10 bucks. SHE should play the lottery or at least by a scratch off! My next door neighbor loved my lottery idea so much that now he sends out his cards with the scratch offs too. Lucky me gets one and last year I won a whole buck! Such fun for everyone. I've even got people asking me if I'm sending out my cards and am I including the lottery tickets? Ha. Now that's fun.

I will never understand IKEA. I'm going to have to learn Swedish to find anything on the search engine there. I bought a neat 3 bin collapsible hanging nylon bin thingy at the thrift store (brand new) and wanted to know how much it sells for in IKEA. I typed in everything I could think of including the actual name NOJE on the package. Nothing, nada. Finally found it on Ebay by typing in hanging storage bin. Oh well. Swedish anyone?

I'm ready for Christmas to be over. I can't stop humming Christmas music after I come home from the stores. Even Black Angus steak house was playing them AND they were in 'cowboy western'. Ugh. How clever of them to disguise the carols. Still, I came home humming them. woozy12

Evening; a rain and mud day...well has been for the past several days. Temps hanging in the upper 40's. Last month had a few days of freezing weather but not a flake of snow.

Off to finish watching the news so wish all a relaxing eve.

Still a few good hours left Joe. :yay:

I got let out of my focus group an hour early because me and two others were way off on what their opinion on what is a proper price for a dryer. If a dryer costs as much as a used car it's way out of my league. :rotfl: I was dancing all the way to my truck though because I still got paid the full price.

Gail, I hope you continue to feel well. hearts

Sharon, my thoughts are with you.

Connie, I really hope today went well.
