I'm stuck trying to get the cannon ball out of the cage on the ship. I combined the cork screw with the rope but can't use it anywhere. Thanks Richard

Hi, fellow boomers. I have opened the box (in the ship's cabin) using my hairpin. Now I'm faced with the "Lock puzzle". Has anybody done that and already beaten that puzzle? If SO,I would appreciate knowing how that's done. Also, I know that all of our fellow boomers wish MAG a speedy recovery. Sandy

You need to push the hairpin all the way to the right. You have to weave your way through. The hairpin dosen't bend.

Now I'm faced with the "Lock puzzle". Has anybody done that and already beaten that puzzle? If SO,I would appreciate knowing how that's done. You read the piece of paper, right? - The right symbol you get from Mary. Of course, only one symbol makes any sense even if you don't know the answer. - The middle symbol comes from the mirror. The three missing words are probably "on the mirror." - I got the left symbol just by scrolling through the options after setting the other two symbols correctly. I'm currently stuck in Chapter 3 trying (I think) to clean a window. SWC

And also having trouble with another puzzle: there is a time you have to paint a canvas for the arch-mage. Do I really need to paint it, exactly? Or there is another way? Because I’m a terrible painter, and every time I show the canvas that I paint with the grapes and bottle of wine to him, he tells me that it’s no good. Help, please!.

OK I solved the table puzzle with the help of my girlfriend who has seen similar puzzles before. Let's see if I can solve the puzzle of how to post hints. :) What I wasn't getting is that the symbols around the table in some cases match the points of the star. Those are the ones you have to 'turn on' and from there it's mostly trial and error. Let me know if you need more help. I can't help with your second part because I'm still looking for materials :)

From inside the engine room your next step is to . More explicit solution: Use Cleaning Solvent and Newspaper - you get the newspaper from the evil leader's room and if you've gotten this far you should already have the solvent. I forget where I picked it up but I used the label off the can to get the brandy.

How do I sign on as a crew member so I can get in the engine room. You have to create an opening. This is actually the puzzle the hint I gave before applies to. I'm still confused about where I'm stuck. I have a canister of water, and it and the newspaper don't do anything useful. I don't see any cleaning supplies anywhere. SWC

I should point out I'm playing on Normal so that might be the difference, but here goes, re: engine room I had a canister of cleaning fluid and a bottle of water. I put the canister in the hole in the ice where the critter was fishing in an earlier chapter (where the Mary was wrecked), and the label came off. I then stuck that label onto the bottle of water. Since it was a yellow label (I guess?) Laylah didn't notice when I swapped the bottle of water for the bottle of brandy in the hideout.
That left me with an unlabeled canister of cleaning fluid.
And I can't for the life of me remember where I originally picked that up, either. Sorry I can't be more help.

I figured it out. It turns out this is one of the places where Normal differs from Hard: To clean the porthole on Hard, you have to re-swap the brandy bottle to get back the original bottle. Then when you examine the bottle, you notice it has fermented apple juice inside, and it's powerful enough to cut through the grime on the porthole (perhaps with the help of the newspaper, but I'd already used newspaper on the porthole several times). Ya same here and it seems color needed to be blended carefully! That really hard which I'm stuck here also!Alright painting is solved and it doesn't have to perfect or color blending (see below) Addition to wine botle, grapes, leaves and cork, we need painting table and as well the background. I'm sure you know which color to use for table, check chair color and that the background

Has anyone gotten past the Chapter 4 painting puzzle yet? Is there a trick to it, or is the game just incredibly picky? Do you paint the table? Do you paint the background (and if so, which color)?
I've painted the picture ten times now, and my enthusiasm for painting it again is pretty close to zero.

I've cleaned the window in the engine room and only have the canister of cold sea water and have no idea what to do with it or what to do next. I've obviously missed something but can't think what. I'm pretty sure \i've been everywhere with both Nate and Critter carrying it and just cannot figure it out. Help I think you have to talk to Critter to make him go into the water Hope that was it - I will try and play it again - so many things are happening in this game

I need a nudge! I am trying to get out of jail and keep trying to use the hose with the corkscrew but it won't let me, due to the fact it would make to much noise with the chain going over the pipe. I can't separate the corkscrew (at least I don't know how to do it) all I have left is the compact and a couple of noise makers. Thanks in advance! Great game

I'm stuck on the table puzzle to. Richard If you talking table from top floor then read below: The puzzle has two parts, star and next one symbols. Look carefully at shapes and press buttons accordingly, for next one you'll see series of shapes, look carefully and at some point you should see all shapes that needed to be press (buttons at once). Of course, you need rotating table until!

I figured that out, about the "star" points, but no matter what, I can't seam to "light" my way in this puzzle. Is there an especific orther to do it? Do all the "points" need to be pressed first or do they need to be pressed in a certain order? All I know is that I have rotated the 3 circles at least 3000 times each!!! I'm stuck in this puzzle for 3 days now!!! It sounds like UruBoo is playing on Hard. For that case: You just need to light the right star buttons. There isn't any order to it. For the rings, you need to create a route from the lighted starting points to the center. The easiest way to do this is to notice on the outer ring that there are two starting points that connect to each other but not to the middle ring. These two points can only go at the top of the puzzle. Once you've placed the outer ring, it's easy to go through all of the possibilities of the inner two rings until you get the solution. SWC

Sorry, can't delete the post so I'm editing it. I'm moving forward again and my previous post was such a ramble and non-specific that I'm wiping it out.

Believe it or not, I'm still trying to get that cannonball out of the cage in order to use it on the cannon in chapter one on the ship. I have tried to combine everything in my inventory in every way possible to get that cannonball. Of course, I'm missing something here. Can someone lend me a hand here so that I can progress in this game. I would be much obliged. Sandy
BTW, I hope you are feeling better by now, Mag

Thanks for the hint,FrkBrok. My problem is that I can't fire at anything because I don't have "ammunition" for the cannon. I assume this ammunition is the cannonball which is still stuck in the cage. And what is the "ork" you have mentioned? How do I get that cannonball? Thanks, Sandy
YAY! I finally did it. I put the cotton ball in the cannon, and fired again (as you stated). The "blast" pushed the cannonball out of the bars of the cage. Now I'm moving along, thanks to YOU.

Sandy you don't need the cannon ball in the cage. Did you use the cotton in the cannon. Richard

Thanks so much, Mag. You ARE the BEST. Sandy
Richard, with a little help from all of you, I put the cotton into the cannon, and from there I figured out the rest. Thanks so much. Sandy

I was not able to take the ship out of the bottle (in the ship's cabin) so I couldn't do another dialogue with "Mary", but thanks to MAG, i was able to put the symbols in the right order anyway to open the hatch and move on. Happy Gaming. Sandy

Phew. Got the odd shaped piece of metal. Had to give the cylinder to Critter and he was able to put it back. But.....there were no symbols as in the WT. The squares were just about visible but no lines in them. Anyway I'm there now thanks to the pics in your WT. Without those I wouldn't have had any clue as to which buttons to press as the cylinder was not lit up.

Ok guy's, I finished the game on normal difficulty so I thought why not give it a go on hard.
Sailed through the first chapter with little problem and now find myself totally stuck in chapter two. Santa will not make his appointed rounds.
I've exhausted every conversation path available. Checked every hot spot I can find but without the hourglass and sock I'm at a dead end. I Would certainly appreciate some suggestions please

I thought there was a ball of yarn on the chair beside the fireplace - can you knit a sock or something the like? ----------- I found a walkthrough herethat states: Hang the STOCKING (from Petra at the Ice Sheet) on the right hook at the top of the fireplace. Try to walk out the door to start the cut scene. Click the STOCKING above the fireplace to retrieve it and the PACKAGE it was containing. Open the PACKAGE to find the HOURGLASS and the WRAPPING PAPER.

Thanks MaG, it appears to be a totally different game in hard mode. Probably much to hard for my limited brain power.
