Hi:
Don't know if you can help me with this, hope you can.
As of late whenever I click onto GB site, the screen freezes, then about one minute (or less later) a window pops up saying:

"A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly.
If it continues to run, your computer might become unresponsive." Then below it a box is there for you to click Yes.

Each time I go click from one window to another (like if I am looking at walkthroughs, after each one this will occur or going from one forum to another, etc.) It is driving me bats and takes awhile before I can accomplish what I started out doing at GB site.
Can you magically give me an answer as to how to stop this annoying thing happening?
I await patiently.

El

El,

It reads like you might be having Java script problems as these are what GB uses. You may need to update the version of Java installed on your system.

You can test whether the above is correct. IE under Tools/Advanced has a series of check boxes for Java. One box will say "Use JRE (version #) for". You can try removing the check, restarting IE, and seeing if you still get errors on GB.

As for the actual errors, they may be false positives in the sense that your system is not slowing down. You can also tell IE in the Tools/Advanced Browsing section to "disable script debugging for IE".
That's not a solution of the main problem.

You could also see if you have the same problems when using a different browser.

Also try clearing your web cache. If your web browser is accessing cache that's been corrupted instead of loading the webpage fresh, it can cause these sorts of problems.

Here's a site that tells how to clear your cache, giving instructions for different browsers.

The ability to specify which version of JAVA to use was removed from IE years ago. So unless you're running something very old, you won't see any options to change it.

It's possible that you've installed a browser add-on that's not playing nice. Try disabling them under Tools, Manage Add-ons. If the problem disappears, re enable them one by one until you find the culprit. Windows 7 has an option to start IE in safe mode under Accessories, System Tools which disables the add-ons without making any changes to the browser.

Thank you all for all this information.
Call me dumb, but what do do you mean by
Browser?" I am running on XP and will further look into all the replies & see if I try and do something, as you know I am a bit of an illiterate when it comes to tech problems with my computer.

A browser is the program you are using to view websites. Browser == Web Browser

Examples of web browsers:
Internet Explorer (IE)
Firefox
Seamonkey
Opera
Safari
Chrome

and there are a bunch more you've probably never heard of, like Sleipnir.

Thank you so Jenny, never knew, how dumb of me, my browser is Internet Explorer.
I'll try now to do some of the things mentioned to me.

El

****** EDIT ******

Sorry to bother you again Jenny, I went to the site you mentioned and am reading instructions but do not know which to follow, Internet 9, 8 or 7. How do I find out which specific Internet I have?
Thanks in advance good friend.

If you have XP and you've been getting Windows Updates, then you're probably updated to IE 8. But to check, see if this webpage helps you

Went to Help & About Internet Explorer - one time I did it & it showed IE 7, went back a few minutes later after reading some data & it shows IE #8, I guess that's it with updates yes?
Tomorrow I'll go & follow directions from website you gave me earlier & follow them for IE 8.

Hi Jenny:
Followed the instruction for Inernet Explorer 8 & it (keeping my fingers crossed that it keeps up) seems like the message ("A script on this page" etc.) has not popped up while on your GB site! Sure hopes it stays that way. You are truly a GENIUS my friend. Thanks so.
Have a happy & healthy Merry Christmas.

*********** EDIT ***********

Ah, I spoke too soon. While navigating thru
the Forum section, I had no problem. Then I went to chck on some walkthroughs & it started, each time I clicked on an alphabet letter to check on a w/t, the dreaded "A script on this page started up again makeing me having to wait way over 30 seconds before I could find the w/t, then of course when I went to another letter of the alphabet to check on a w/t, it occurs again.
Is there any other solution to suggest to me to alleviate this problem?

.

Just a thought - because you're running an older version of IE, you may still be using the MSJVM runtime libraries.

Peruse the link below, it describes how to disable MSJVM if you're using it.

How to disable the Microsoft Java virtual machine (MSJVM)

Hi:
Thanks for the info. Did as you said & it said "jview isn't recognizable, etc." and the instructions said because of seeing this, I am safe.
Do you have any other suggestions for me getting this darn "A script on this page" note going away?

Peruse to this page - JAVA Version Checker

Press "Verify JAVA Version", and see if there's a newer one available.

Hi:
Yes, went to Java & it now says "congratualtions you have now the recommended Java installed (version 7 Update 10."
I do not see the icon (I'm assuming it should be) for Java on my Desktop now.

Jenny:
Under Tools, Internet, Advance, there is a Check before "Disable script debugging."

I am still getting that annoying script message. Are there any other magical tricks you can pull out of a hat to help me?

El

I use IE and FF, using IE 60% of the time and FF the other 40%, 2 things:

1)You could try mj2c's suggestion and try another browser, Firefox (FF for short) or another Browser and see if this gets rid of your problem, FF and all the Browsers that Jenny100 listed are Free to use and I can't vouch for the other Browsers, but FF is very easy to install and use.

2)When all else fails in IE, I always tell people to try the following steps which in a lot of cases help solve the problems, if your lucky this will help you, if it doesn't = Stay away from any Casinos until your luck changes ;), here are the Steps in IE:

A) With your IE open, click on Tools above, a Window will pop up, at the very bottom of this Pop up window, click on Internet Options, a New window will Pop up and it will have several Tabs, click on the tab that says = Advanced, again a New window will Pop up and at or near the very bottom of this page of pop up you will see a Button with the name Reset, click on this and yet again you get another Pop up, this time it is a Warning that ..... well you can read the warning, No big deal don't worry about it.
Just make sure if you Want to keep all your Personal settings that you Do Not put a checkmark in the box and all should be good

No, you won't see an icon on the desktop for Java. Does it stop the script error messages?

No, it does not stope the Script Message. I'm going to try the suggestionm (above message) from Starcom under his "A" paragraph & see what happens.
