A story I'll tell of a burglar bold

Who started to rob a house;

He opened the window, and then crept in

As quiet as a mouse.

He looked around for a place to hide,

'Till the folks were all asleep,

Then said he, "With their money

I'll take a quiet sneak."

So under the bed the burglar crept;

He crept up close to the wall;

He didn't know it was an old maid's room

Or he wouldn't have had the gall.

He thought of the money that he would steal,

As under the bed he lay;

But at nine o'clock he saw a sight

That made his hair turn gray.

At nine o'clock the old maid came in;

"I am so tired," she said;

She thought that all was well that night

So she didn't look under the bed.

She took out her teeth and her big glass eye,

And the hair from off her head;

The burglar, he had forty fits

As he watched from under the bed.

From under the bed the burglar crept,

He was a total wreck;

The old maid wasn't asleep at all

And she grabbed him by the neck.

She didn't holler, or shout or call,

She was as cool as a clam;

She only said, "The Saints be praised,

At last I've got a man!"

From under the pillow a gun she drew,

And to the burglar she said,

"Young man, if you don't marry me,

I'll blow off the top of your head!"

She held him firmly by the neck,

He hadn't a chance to scoot;

He looked at the teeth and the big glass eye,

And said, "Madam, for Pete's sake, shoot!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pondering old age
How do I know that my youth is all spent?
Well, my get up and go has got up and went.
But in spite of it all I am able to grin
when I recall where my get up has been.
Old age is golden-so I've heard it said-
but sometimes I wonder when I get into bed,
with my ears in a drawer and my teeth in a cup,
my eyes on the table until I wake up.
Ere sleep dims my eyes I say to myself,
"Is there anything else I should lay on the shelf?"
And I'm happy to say as I close my door,
my friends are the same, perhaps even more.
When I was young, my slippers were red,
I could pick up my heels right over my head.
When I grew older, my slippers were blue,
but still I could dance the whole night through.
But now I am old, my slippers are black,
I walk to the store and puff my way back.
The reason I know my youth is all spent,
my get up and go has got up and went.
But I really don't mind when I think, with a grin,
of all the grand places my get up has been.
Since I have retired from life's competition,
I accommodate myself with complete repetition.
I get up each morning, and dust off my wits,
pick up my paper and read the "obits".
If my name is missing, I know I'm not dead,
so I eat a good breakfast and go back to bed
I will be in the corner all day. Maybe I will be able to get a walk in with the dogs but that pretty much covers it.
Have a happy day all!
Morning all and festive greetings!
We are on a canal boat for Christmas in decidedly wet weather and without regular internet access, so I come to you via Kindle with 3G - a frustratingly slow experience, but one which saves me from total withdrawal symptoms over the holiday period (but probably not cold turkey....). blush
Time for yet another unnatural Saturday whoosh. I think I may be coming down with some kind of virus. Either that or the strain of so many work days is getting to me. I haven't been feeling well since yesterday. frown12 Oh well, at least it's going to be a short day today.
Okay, have to run. Hope everyone here has a terrific Saturday. wave12 winter
Good morning everybody
Thank you Ana, Joe, Nan, Lotus and all for your welcome back wishes. One is really feeling at home here in the Diner (and of course at GB). Head is much better today. Weather is beautiful. Blue sky, sunshine and temps up to 57F today. Hubby went to a meeting and I decorated the Christmas tree this morning. Well tree is a bit of an exaggeration. That’s my tree:
Evelyne's Christmas tree
You love it? There is no tradition such as real Christmas trees here in Italy (having only olive trees and no fir trees). So everybody is doing a lean-to.
I was listening to the Beethoven Sonata Pathétique full blast while decorating my lean-to tree and I felt relaxed and happy for the first time in many a weeks. I hope for the same feeling for all of you!
Does anybody know if Sharon is all right?
Ana: how’s your head doing? Did the walk with the dogs yesterday any good for the head? I hope so!!
Joe: and how’s your tummy today? No good having tummy ache before Christmas. Please get well soon! And for today: Happy egg hunting (oooops)…
Nan: brrrrr, +6F!!!!!! That would be way too cold for me. Stay inside and warm please.
Lotus: you built your hubby a new PC? You can do that? Wow-congrats!
Haroula: Happy Holiday to you too!
Hi Lex: better slow than nothing at all. Sounds fun your canal boat. Where are you?
To all: have a happy and joyful day. Don’t forget to smile!
Evelyne
Good Morning Boomers
Joe, enjoy your day off.
Ana, ah sorry you have to spend the day in the corner. How about some tea and homemade Christmas cookies?
Haroula, See you in the new year.
Lex, glad you have some kind of internet service.
Cailyn, just got my internet going myself. Don't know what happened this morning. Thanks for the coffee.
Venus, hope you feel better.
Evelyne, your Christmas tree is lovely.
Happy day to all who arrive after me. Not sure what's on the agenda today. Just have to wait and see what the day holds. santadance
Good morning everybody. wave12
I started playing URU again last night for the first time in years, and stayed up too late. I thoroughly enjoyed the game and walking around in those worlds again. bravo12
It's nice to have a weekend off. I'll work Monday 5:00 to 2:00 and have Tue. off, of course and then be back at work at 1:00 Wed. wink12
I need to get out and get over to Mom's. I'm looking forward to doing some more digging, although I'm very sore and crampy from yesterday. happydance12
I have chronic rigor mortise. zombie
Ana I keep forgetting to answer your question about the early mornings, sorry. wink12
The 5:00 mornings are year round. We start that early in order to put up freight mainly. We usually get 3 trucks a week, but in Nov. and Dec. we may get 4 or 5.
Evie my stomach is ok today, thanks for asking. I'm glad your head is feeling better today. wink12
I hope everyone has a fantastic day. rah
Hi Gail: thank you! Glad you like my „tree“. Have a wonderful day.
Hi Connie: please say hi and Merry Christmas and all the best to your hubby too. Pancakes and Hot Chocolate…yummy… just the thing! Thank you.
Hi Space: glad you got snow for Christmas! You building a snowman now?
Hi friend Joe: I’am happy your tummy is better laugh . How could you eat all that yummy Christmas stuff otherwise? Exactly! Did you find lots of egg-shaped-heads? Awwwww URU was one of my favorites. Such beautiful surroundings.
Almost evening and supper time here. See you later or tomorrow again. Hugs,
Evelyne
Good morning boomies...I worked till the wee hours and then slept in. I am back in the corner and hope to be running the dogs in a couple hours. I am letting it warm up a bit. It was 14 when I got up and it's rising to the 20's.
I hope you all enjoy your day!
Sharon, still hoping all is well by you and your procedure went smoothly.
Today will be decorating. We won't do much because of the combo of the boys and the dogs...mainly Skyman but Lil Soot is in that pack too.
Woke up to find out that Cullen has pink eye, so I will be trying to keep my distance. Hubby is heading out to do errands and son is taking the boys to the zoo so I don't loose my mind. His chest, arm, and shoulder are getting worse. He forgets he is not supposed to use it and picks up one of the boys or they jump on him etc. It's not going to get better until he stops doing that. Oh well!
Back later wave12
Hello Everyone!! Still rainy, windy and chill here.
Hope you an get that run in with the dogs, Ana!
Eveylne, I am not smart, that is what they call it when you are ordering one. They give you options for different parts and software. I just put an emphasis on media a that is his interest. BTW, I like your tree, broccoli12! Olive leaves resemble bay leaves.
A boat anywhere sounds good to me Lex. Enjoy!
Sharon thinking of you and saying a prayer when I do.
Enjoy your time away, Haroula.
And, Happy Gaming Everyone! wave12
I'm sure most have seen "Deer Crossing" signs along roads. Well, a women living on the outskirts of another small town not far from here had one of the signs; recently she call the county and asked that they move the sign to a different area, that, that was not a safe place for deer to cross...
Really, this happened.
Gimli, your little tree is really cute. Do they ship in any of the artificial trees there? I prefer those anyway.
Hope all have a great Sat.
Finally a break in my day's fun chores. So here's the fun news of the week. The same construction company that is doing the sidewalks on the street opposite me, is doing some up the road about 3 blocks. BUT get this, the people on that street (which is two blocks long) are not doing the WHOLE street. Nope, they have to agree and only one SIDE of ONE block agreed. So there is a sidewalk going in on one side of one block and nothing on the rest. Gonna be nice and then crappy across the street. I just can't imagine that one. We walked up there today, saw preparations started and it's going to be a mess when it's done (not now) ha. People! The minimal cost is about 1200 a house for one regular size driveway of about 18 feet wide. Then about 100 per each linear foot over that. AND they can pay it over TEN years. Maybe they all are strapped for money, but looking at the NICE houses and landscaping there, I think it's just a bah humbug area. Wow.
Outdoorsies are lining up early for the evening feeding. Must be going to get cold and dark early or something. I'm holding off as long as I can so it doesn't start a trend.
Stores are so crowded! I'm not going out until after Christmas unless it's an emergency. Terrible finding parking, people in a grabby crabby mood too. Yuk.
WARNING! This person is extremely blonde...please type SLOWLY.
Took a happy trip to vets this AM -for flea stuff. The only unhappy one was me -70$!!! and that's only for 1 dog and 2 cats because I had 1 cat flea thing left over from last time. I did buy a bag of doggy treats too. But 70$ And they don't like it either -Commander is staying away from me. Well, let him be mad because I'll get the whole bed tonight.
Tomatos look good. Google says basil is a companion for them so that's next. I'll just plant some along the rolls. Ooooh tomatos and basil and olive oil and sea salt yumyum
Been in the 60's and 70's today and tomorrow the same.
Lotus I will try those other brands if our store has them. We are rural and often choices are limited. How's Finn?
For my B'Day I got a pair of black birkinstocks -oh joy. My shoe size is 7 1/2 wide and the closest they have around here is 8 medium but that doesn't cut it. So when I'm Austin I try to buy some shoes -lately not often.
bye for now
Oh Nan, I'm so sorry. I do see this trend. I wish them into non-existence but it doesn't seem to work. I don't know how you and your little Sassy can brave that sort of cold. i would think her little feet would be frozen to the ground!!!
Trippy, that is too funny about the woman and the deer sign!!
L4L, I'm so sorry about the little people. I hope you don't get it and that they aren't too miserable
I am able to find those brands at the local Wal Mart, which I don't like but.... I might be able to save you some $$ next time you need flea products. I will PM you soon.
Off I go, Still hailing and raining all day...sorry Nan and all East of me.... winter eek12
EDIT: As to brands I was talking to Yankee...sorry... blush
I simply forgot to come in to the Simply Saturday Diner and post when I got back home. oops
I spent a very windy day up on the hill shaking dirt through my sifter for nothing more than a pocket of flakes and chips. frown12
Joe and all...I'm just sitting in the corner working away. I ran the dogs in the woods just before dusk and it was creepy. We rousted the owls, deer and coyotes and it was creeping me out with the crunching of ice under my feet and the dogs on high alert sniffing the air and ground because everything in there was alive and ready to hunt. It was exhilarating and scary at the same time.
I hope you all had a great day. hearts
Still no Sharon. sad
