I am Looney, Big map area.

This online playing is sorta new for me.

My in game typing is pretty slow. Did one dungeon about level 35, random party.

My son inlaw will do them with me. He needs to level up to 40 to do the Mansion one. It might be haunted eek

Thanks Dunn

I've got one level 80 character. I could skip the other dungeons and go right to the end, but at least on my first character I'd like to play through all the dungeons once. Course I actually have to get to them first, and while I'm in the area I'll want to complete the map. So I'll probably not actually kill the elder dragon for another year. I'm not in hurry. I didn't finish any of the 3 Guild Wars 1 campaigns in first year either. I don't understand people who rush to the end.

I haven't actually been playing much Guild Wars 2 since I bought a non-renewing 60 day subscription to Star Wars: The Old Republic. Once that subscription runs out I'll get back into Guild Wars 2

Original Draén

Draén after a total makeover (yes he is now she)

And since Draen is welsh for "thorn" I don't even have to change the character's name (unlike human and norn characters I plan to change genders on).

Currently wearing heritage armor because the previous armor looked bad on female. Sylvari's dont have nice legs, not in bark mode and I wanted to stick with that, so legs need to be covered.

The human guardian and norn mesmer will probably just be deleteed and recreated as female, since I have not played them much.

BTW they are planning on a name change kit.

In Guild Wars 1 its Canthan New Year. It the Year of the Snake but you can trade in 100 lunar token for a medal that gets you one of any of the celestial animal mini and I choose the rat from 2008. If I wanted to spend the rest of the weekend in GW1 I could actually get more tokens and trade them in for fortunes which have a tiny chance of giving any one of the celestial animal minis, but I don't want to. After playing Guild Wars 2 (and SW: TOR) Guild Wars 1 seems so slow. And I keep trying to press F instead of clicking mouse on NPCs (laugh).

No. I just check in GW1 occasionally. I only found out it was Canthan New Year, because I was looking up my Guild Wars 1 character names.

My new Guild Wars 2 characters:

Tsuyoi Meimu ("powerful illusion" in Japanese) - female human mesmer, replaces male norn mesmer. I have a mesmer by same name in Guild Wars 1.

Loviisa ("famous warrior" in Finnish) - female norn guardian, replaces male human guardian

Yes I flipped their professions as well as genders. Had a hard time finding the norn's name. Every norse, icelandinc, scandiavian, swedish name was taken. I was stunned when i entered Loviisa and opening video ran.

Big guild update coming, presumably it will be adding guild halls. I don't have a date for it, was mentioned in an interview with one of the writers.

Hi Guys, I'm looking for some basic advice about GW2. I want to get info based on my experience in WoW and Rift most recently and several others going back to Everquest.

I am not interested really in comparing GW2 to other RPGs. That would probably be inviting a flame war anyway.

What I am hoping to get is some advice of how to play this that might be different than the WoW/Rift style of playing. I tried it for a few hours and it never really "clicked" with me. I'm going to get back in and start playing again but want to know what things to look for or what things to do to get the most out of the game. Things that might not be obvious to a MMO gamer that is so used to the "standard" games.

I hope this isn't too vague and thanks in advance.

I've never played WOW. My first MMO was Guild Wars 1 and then Guild Wars 2. It wasn't until I started playing Star Wars: The Old Republic that I experienced things the Guild Wars 2 creators were trying to get away from. There are definitely tanks, DPS and healers in SW:TOR. Guild Wars 2 doesn't have a true tank or dedicated healers. Every profession has ways of reducing damage taken, causing damage over time and healing.

Playing SW:TOR the one thing I miss most from Guild Wars 2, is the shared rewards. Everybody who takes part in taking down a major foe gets some reward. The other day in SW, I was with a team of dozen mid level people who came together to take down a world boss. Just as we were ready to go some lone max level character ran right passed us and attacked the boss. Though our team jumped into the fight, we didn't get credit on the quest when the boss died nor did any of use get a chance at the drop. The level 50 player stole the boss and its drop, a drop 20 levels below him and probably useless to him. These world bosses are slow to respawn. We switched instances and were lucky to find him there with no one going after him and got him again, but when a boss drops 1 item and 12 people on the team, 1 person gets it and 11 get nothing but experience. In Guild Wars 2 a chest would have spawned and been active for everyone who took part, they would all get something.

Interesting Guybrush. That is a big difference. Quite a difference in philosophy.
