Sometimes lost is where you need to be. Just because you don't know your direction doesn't mean you don't have one.

I hear you Denis because it doesn't seem to work. I think "is" is the direct. 7+9-6 = 10, which is even and CCb's solution is the other way.
I trusted this one because it's by my favorite constructor.

Isn't the original a (rare) true &lit? (See Pandora's "terribly angered" example) Thought it was very clever - CCb's wordplay solve gives "even", and the full clue ("What 7 + 9 - 6 is!") satisfies the &lit (10 is even)
To waste one second of one's life is a betrayal of one's self. I wonder what's on television...?

I agree that it's very clever, Rog and I'm glad you liked it. For some reason, it just doesn't sit 100% well with me.

Interesting, not to mention mind-racking, clues! Wouldn't it be 50/50 though?
Did you ever stop to think and then forget to start again?

50 - 50 looks like 50 minus 50. 50/50 could work but also looks like 50 divided by 50. I like fifty-fifty or 50-50 (no spaces).
