Is there some way I can change the line length of the posts here in my IE browser?

Several days ago they became longer and I have to keep scrolling to the right in order to read them.

Changing the font size to the smallest doesn't help - it just puts more on a line.

Thanks for any help or suggestions, except to change browsers - I really don't want to change browsers.

Could this problem be caused by updating or disabling java or javascript?

Thanks all for your replies.

Jenny100: I don't have Java. I checked to make sure Javascript is still enabled. My last MS update was Wed. 2/13, but this started before then. I don't allow any program on my system to automatically update, and I had not manually updated anything just prior to this.

mj2c: It isn't a question of magnification. The text is still the same size - there's just more of it on a line.

InlandAZ: IE6. I've been using it for some time and I've never had a problem with it. I checked to make sure none of its settings had somehow been changed, and they haven't.

I was hoping there's some setting in IE that I don't know about that would let me restrict the line length.

Anyhow, thank you all for your input.

Just a stab in the dark, but screen resolution or some change in your monitor settings that happened without your knowledge?

Hi Draclvr,

The resolution, font size, and dpi are the same they've always been.

I checked other sites I often visit and they're all fine - it's only at GB that I'm experiencing this.

Thanks for your reply.

Also a stab in the dark - please clear your cookies here and on your computer. Also please clear your temporary internet files.
Keep us posted please.

Jema, I Googled your problem and found a lot of solutions that required adding script code, not something I'd recommend unless you knew exactly what you're doing.

I went to Microsoft to see what answers might be found there and came up with these listings. There are several pages of topics at this location, maybe one will be the answer you are looking for.

You probably want to upgrade to the latest release for your OS. IE6 has quite a few security holes.

Continuing to use IE 6 is a security disaster in waiting.

Internet Explorer 6 is riddled with security vulnerabilities and does not contain many of the necessary anti-exploit mechanisms in newer IE versions.

Too bad Microsoft didn't make IE7 and later with the option to look and operate like IE6. If they'd done that, they wouldn't have to worry about forcing people not to use it.

Yaeh, I agree - I miss the look and feel of IE6 too.

I agree - I also hate the look of all the later versions of IE. One of the reasons I use Firefox...

Thanks everyone for your replies.

MaG, I always check the box to delete all temporary internet files when I disconnect from the internet. Then, when I'm back to my desktop, I manually delete all cookies from the 2 folders in XP.

Homer 6, I agree about not messing with scripts - I wouldn't know what I was doing. Thanks for the link - I couldn't find a topic that was about IE.

As far as IE6 is concerned, I've never had a security problem with it. In all the years I've had an internet connection I've never been "hacked" in any way and not once have I had a virus or malware of any kind.

Again, thanks everyone. If you think of anything else, please let me know.

Jema, deleting all temporary internet files when you disconnect and manually deleting cookies is not the same as clearing out the internet cache in IE. IE 6 is so old that I'm not sure if the normal ways of doing that are even valid any more. In the safer IE versions, you click on Tools and then History and clear the history.

Draclvr, I should have said I also checked "Delete History" so the History files are deleted at the same time.

I know this does not delete the caches for these 3 folders, so I also ran CCleaner to delete the Index.dat files (caches) for them and rebooted so it would become effective.

Sounds like you've covered the bases. An interesting experiment to try would be to download and install Firefox and see if the same thing happens in that browser.

Draclvr, I'm not going to try that - I don't want a 2nd browser on my system.

If I'm the only person at GB using IE that is experiencing this, one would think it's some setting in just MY browser that has changed, but that's not the case.

It was just a thought! I only meant to try it as an experiment to see what happened and then uninstall it. Heck, I've got 4 browsers on my computer. I just downloaded Opera today to try it out after Jenny100, traveler and Homer talked about how much they like it. The jury is still out on that one. I always seem to go back to my old favorite Firefox. I don't use IE unless I'm absolutely forced to. I quit using it when there got to be so many security holes in it and just never went back to it full time.
