If I had to bet the farm on how many years ago, I'd say 2.

I'm pretty sure at the time that it was considered ok to use
"with" this way (example):
"flyer with color" to clue "red bird"
(no other "position indicator" required...)

I know you have an excellent memory, especially when it comes to past cryptics. Sorry this one didn't come back to you.

I liked Sherlock's cryptic and thought "with" worked well as a container indicator. Sometimes it's all in the way one is worded.

I liked it too...and agree that "with" is a fine indicator.
