I'm looking for a link that would give me only the Ad Aware free spyware.

I must be missing it.

The only thing I see is Ad Aware with Antivirus that includes the spyware.

I already have Norton Internet Security.

If I can't get only the spyware, would it be OK to have a second antivirus.

Thanks for your help. thumbsup

Here you go Chief -
Lavasoft Download

When you press the download button, make sure you select the option that states: Continue with Ad-Aware Free Antivirus+

I haven't used the product in years, it looks like they've bundled it with Anti Virus software as well. So, I'm not sure if this is like the old product.

It looks like they discontinued the version that was only for anti-spyware/anti-adware. It may be possible to disable the antivirus part of it, but the presence of two antivirus on a computer can have unforseen problems -- even if one of them is supposedly disabled.

You can find older versions of Ad-Aware here
http://www.oldversion.com/windows/ad-aware/

but I don't know which of them contain only the anti-spyware/anti-adware capability and which also include the antivirus. Also I don't know which are still supported with the latest definitions.

I'd recommend using something like Malware Bytes or Spybot instead.

INland, if I already have Norton Internet Security, would it be then better to have another antispyware then Ad aware?

Or is it OK to have two Antivirus?

Chief

Edit: just saw what you added. Sorry. Just saw what Jenny added. Thanks.

Running two isn't recommended. However, there may be an option to disable the Lava Soft Anti Virus, or it may not run in the background (real time protection).

If that's the case, you might want to give it a shot.

Thanks Inland. I was waiting for that answer of not running two antivirus.

Thanks Jenny. My wife and I just decided to give malwarebytes a try.

Much better alternative, Chief. The free Malwarebytes is now downloaded with a free 2-week trial of the Pro version which runs in real time. At the end of the two weeks, it will ask you if you want to continue using the Pro version by paying for it ($25 USD); just say no and you will be able to continue using the free version.

What Drac said BUT, pay the $25 bucks. The difference is the paid version runs in the background like an anti-virus program keeping the spyware out. The free only searches for and removes the offenders after they have landed. I bought it three years ago and have not had any junk get past it.

My wife did not and she got hit with one of those nasty programs that hold your pc hostage unless you pay them. She could not run any programs nor could she install anything.

I loaded up Malwarebytes pro having to install in safe more and run it from there. It took less than five minutes for Malwarebytes to find it and wipe it. I don't have to tell you it runs constantly on her system too. $25 bucks well spent. She has had no intrusions since.

It takes quite awhile to run the initial deep scan. The program seems to update on a daily basis so they keep up. Not being a totally trusting person with software. I run a scan with spybot and spysweeper along with my anti-virus as a back check to malwareware bytes.

When I used the lava soft very often it reported nothing found and a followup with spyware sweeper it would find several items lava soft did not. So I ditched lava soft more than three years ago. No such problem with malwarebytes.

Malwarebyte also issues warnings when you come across links that are known to harbor bad stuff. I do not know how correct that warning is. You can still access the links but do so at your own risk.

I'm a big fan of Malwarebytes as well, it does a fairly good job.

I put the Pro version on my 89 year-old mother's computer. I live 600 miles away and a couple of months ago, she called me and told me she had a message on her screen. It was a trojan trying to get through - Malwarebytes had caught it and stopped it in it's tracks. So I told her what to do to quarantine it - her computer would have been hosed without Malwarebytes Pro and I would have been too far away to fix it for her.

While no program is perfect, I only have good things to say about Malwarebytes Pro.

Another testimonial for Malwarebytes Pro. Nothing nasty has hit our system since I installed it not long ago. It's warned me several times of sites it believed were malicious. And it's found a few things that would be considered lurkers. This program runs like others I've used should have, you control the program, the program doesn't control you.

It sets in the background and I don't hear a peep out of it unless something tries to attack our system, or I go to a site that might be malicious. This is what I want from this type of software, and so far Malwarebytes Pro has lived up to those expectations.

If something gets your goat, it just proves you have a goat to get.

Well, all of you have convince us to go Pro.

Both being often on the internet, may as well have a better protection.

Thanks for your advice. thumbsup

I'm sure you have Malwarebytes Pro by now, Chief, but for anyone else who's thinking about it, you pay once and that's it. All future updates are free. It really is worth the price.
