Me too I missed the beginning, I turned it on once I came back from work. In America they must all still be at work right now.

I play it on the Mac while working on the PC, but I have the sound off. Anything interesting in what they said?

Ragnar is saying he spent 6 months in Montréal last year, and was joking they would do a Canadian version, taking out the puzzles and replacing them with poutines and waffles (because of the maple syrup). That would be a first, a French-Canadian version. I would buy 25 copies...

I am using google chrome and it comes right up. duh

It is an exclusive right now for IGN so I can't give you another link.

EDIT: Actually, I believe it's the same trailer now on their kickstarter page so you can try there.

The article on gamespot says this:

Quote:
The Longest Journey Home is the name of the game that would finish April’s story, but its existence depends, at this stage, on Red Thread reaching the stretch goal of two million dollars in its Kickstarter funding of Dreamfall Chapters. It is, perhaps, a long shot. But maybe the promise of another game is enough to inspire even more support, especially given how The Longest Journey Home would return to its roots: it is planned as a 2D point-and-click adventure akin to the original game, rather than as a 3D adventure in the manner of Dreamfall and Dreamfall Chapters. It would feature hand-painted backdrops, 3D character models, and, of course, a story penned by series creator Ragnar Tørnquist.

Dear me! We need that 2 million goal! I cannot pledge more, but if necessary near the end, and if it looks like the goal might be reached, I will have to think again.

The Longest Journey Home

Quote:
The Longest Journey Home will pick up right where The Longest Journey left off, filling in the 10-year gap unaccounted for in Dreamfall. But it will also extend beyond Dreamfall Chapters and conclude April’s adventure. And that comes as good news to the players that have been so invested in her fate over the last dozen years.

Quote:
...The Longest Journey Home would return to its roots: it is planned as a 2D point-and-click adventure akin to the original game, rather than as a 3D adventure in the manner of Dreamfall and Dreamfall Chapters.

Quote:
A 2D interface doesn’t just mean classic gameplay for nostalgic fans, though: it allows The Longest Journey Home to have a different, slower pace than it may otherwise have. It also works well on mobile phones and tablets, and Tørnquist is certain that the game will find a home on such devices in addition to the PC.

That would be great, wouldn't it? I did not care for Dreamfall, but I did enjoy the Longest Journey.

I didn't care for Dreamfall either. If I had to choose between them, I'd rather support a Longest Journey Home made in the spirit of the original than a Dreamfall sequel.

I don't get it. I thought this Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey was supposed to complete the game - April's and Zoe's stories(even though I never saw a connection between them). Now they're talking about 2 different games?

Don't forget that a miracle would be required to get $865,000 within 7 days when almost everyone already pledged to their eyeballs. They never thought this goal would be reached. As to the idea of another Longest Journey after this one... was it not on the cards? I think it was, but I could be wrong.

Looks like a wonderful game, wish it wasn't so long in the making. I'm ready to play it today!

I love Dreamfall, but I must admit that I am pleased to hear the next project after Chapters is going to be a follow up to April's first journey and it will be in the same 2D style. It's a shame they could not start with that project, it will be 2015 or 2016 before this game sees the light of day. The end of our own Stark might happen first. wink

I'm sure a lot of people thought that. But if you kept track of Ragnar Tornquist's posts on his blog and elsewhere, you'd have read that he didn't consider Dreamfall as a TLJ2 and that TLJ2 would be a different game. Dreamfall is another storyline (mostly following Zoe) in the same universe as TLJ.

So it's nice to know that a TLJ2 is still being planned to be created at some time -- and even better that it's planned to be a 2D point-and-click in the spirit of the original.

However it's annoying to be asked to contribute more in order to finance a real TLJ 2. The chances of meeting the 2 million mark are rather slim -- which means any additional amount you pay will probably go for Dreamfall 2 and not for the TLJ2 that you really want.

If Red Thread looks at the number of pledges that were increased after announcing Longest Journey Home -- and there is a significant amount of them -- they might get an idea of the demand for it.

Since it looks like one of the other games I made a pledge to isn't going to make it, I went ahead and upped my pledge, but I still think Ragnar is taking advantage of people who want a TLJ2 instead of a Dreamfall 2.

He specified that the 2 million goal will only give them the chance to do pre-production on TLJ 2 while Dreamfall 2 is being made, and TLJ 2 would go into production only after Dreamfall 2 is finished.

I guess they mean that at that point they don't need more money for Dreamfall 2, hence any extra money will go into pre-production for TLJ 2. After that they will need finance for it, I think he said from the profits from Dreamfall 2, if they can (but I would not be surprised if another Kickstarter campaign is necessary). They don't know at this point. So at least 2 million will guarantee pre-production of TLJ 2, and from there we are more likely to get it made eventually.

Note that the PayPal money has not been added yet to the full amount we see on Kickstarter, they have not said either how much more there is from PayPal. My guess is that they probably will tell us in the next few days to invite more pledges at the end.

And the campaign will continue on PayPal after the Kickstarter campaign is finished. There is a chance the 2 million could be reached in the next few months:

http://redthreadgames.com/blog/2/3/2013/for-pledgers-some-information-about-the-longest-journey-home

As long as it is all clear from the start, I am fine.

Now, they invite us to suggest what the $1,750,000 stretch goal should be about, and I think my suggestion may be a good one for here on Gameboomers where we appear to prefer the original TLJ. Well I do hope you agree it might be a good idea... this is my comment and post to them:

Quote:
For the $1,750,000 stretch goal, I suggest that any more content or crazy ideas for Dreamfall Chapters will become superfluous and no longer related to the pleasure of playing a wonderful adventure game. Therefore my suggestion is that all the money for that stretch goal, and beyond that point, goes toward not only doing pre-production on The Longest Journey Home (the 1.75 million stretch goal) but even start on the production (2 million stretch goal).

It was said it won't cost as much and won't take as long because it is 2D (a great decision), so there is a good chance that all that money might suffice to nearly finish it. Especially with all the PayPal money that will still be gathered after the Kickstarter campaign.

For many fans The Longest Journey Home is even more exciting than Dreamfall Chapters, although myself I love both equally. So I suggest more of the Kickstarter campaign money and beyond should go toward both adventures. What do you all think?

They will announce tomorrow the suggestions for that stretch goal of $1,750,000 and invite people to vote. I predict they will reach the $1,500,000 goal, and I believe it is possible that in the next few months they could reach $1,750,000. But 2 million seems rather difficult. So I think we should help move the goal post of the pre-production for The Longest Journey Home closer to home.

Wow, I've missed a lot of discussion in the last few days. Like rmt said, it looks as though the extra money would go into the pre-production of TLJH, not fund an extra game.

Personally, I'm glad Dreamfall Chapters will be first. While TLJ was my favorite as well, I loved Dreamfall almost as much. And it needs resolution far more than TLJ does at this point. Imagine waiting another several years to resolve that cliffhanger! Also, it looks as though Chapters will be much more of a traditional adventure game than Dreamfall was. No combat or stealth, which I'm very happy about.

Of course I want TLJH as well, but I think it will happen either way regardless. It will just happen sooner if the Kickstarter makes it to 2 million. It's a shame it doesn't look as though it will, but we'll just have to hope that Chapters does well enough to fund it in the future. And I will certainly pledge to another Kickstarter in a couple of years, if it comes to that. smile

The Dreamfall Chapters campaign is reaching fever pitch in the comments as there are only 18 hours to go and the counter is going ballistic, soon to be $1,400,000. Plus many new exciting updates:

Okay, I just went crazy, and pledged to the $250 tier. And if the $110 tier was too much for me, the $250 tier is way too much. lol It's just one of those one time things that won't come around again, though, and I think I would have regretted it had I not gone for it. smile
