Forgive me if I am posting at the wrong place. I have spent 15 minutes trying to make sure I am posting this right so here goes:
I am on Day 4: Sept 25, 1522

When I try to put the etchings I found in the secret passageway (after the flour and all that) into the portfolio page, the page won't go in. I can't go on with the game until it does. No comparison to the paper given to me by the king, etc. I even tried to start at the beginning and play the game again and still have come up with the same result. What am I missing?
Margaret

You did well. You started your own Secrets of DV thread. Use this thread if you have other questions about this game. Appreciate your effort.

Try oepning the portfolio and see if it is in there anyhow.
If not see if you can look closer on that page in inventory.
Keep us posted.

Mag,
I went to your walkthrough on this (May 2006) and I don't understand this part. If I can understand it, I can probaby go on with the game. This is what I don't understand:
******************
Etchings at secret passage: Go forward and at the corner, see etchings on the floor. Click on it to clean up one etching. Use the broom to remove the dirt over the second etching. Place the incomplete sheet of paper over the cleaned etching and use the charcoal crayon on the paper to get a sheet of paper.
Add it to the portfolio and read it. It showed the 4 circles with sun, star, moon and planet and lines and dots. No way to decode it yet.

**************
It would appear, that if I don't do a "rubbing" with the unfinished paper on the etching RIGHT THEN I don't get another chance to do it. Is that right? I would need to go back to a save before finding the etching?

Even going back and doing it again, I am not allowed to take that unfinished paper (from the etching with the flour..on the ground in the store room) and use a charcoal crayon to do a rubbing. Is this a glitch or have I, perhaps, missed something? HELP!!

Correction: NOT store room, the area under the kitchen with the trap door.
Margaret

Let's recap:

You got the incomplete sheet of paper when Valdo copied the flour covered metal plate at the cellar.

You then do some other things and later open the secret passage.
You see the etchings on the floor. You click on it and automatically one part is cleaned; the other part you use the broom on. Now you see the complete and cleaned etching.
You then use charcoal and the incomplete sheet of paper that Valdo drew from the cellar on that etching and you will now have a sheet of paper.
This is then added to your portfolio.

You ask if you can do the rubbing later - yes you can. Just go back there and use the incomplete sheet of paper-charcoal on the etching.

--------------------
Double check that what you are using on the etching the the correct paper. If I recall, there are 2 papers there. You might be picking the wrong one from inventory.

I know this is an old thread.....but I'm having the very same problem and I was wondering if there was a solution found.
I have the first part of the etching (the left side) but it won't let me copy the second part, the one with the sun, star, moon and planet and lines and dots.
I don't even get the "action" icon to put the paper on it. Without doing this step I can't move on in the game. I even tried going back to previous saves and it still won't allow to copy the second part.

Urukat,

Check this video walkthrough at around 4:00 in.
You might not be using the correct paper.
Keep us posted.

I tried every paper I have. I know it is the one that already has tracing on it, but it just never let me do the second part. SO.....I went to a site (not sure if I'm allowed to say which one) and found a saved game right past that point.
Thanks though....I think it might be some sort of glitch, but I got beyond it and still playing on. yay

Funny side note: I also had to use a saved game to get past painting the Mona Lisa, really???.......sheesh! insane thanks

If your computer has "hyperthreading" you might try and complete those areas in the game by playing in compatibility mode.
