As I've stated in previous posts I just got a new HP computer with Windows 8 and an AMD Radeon HD 7570 video card. The first thing I did was go to the Radeon site and download the newest driver for the card. I then installed the driver and the install seemed successful. However, when I check in device manager the date of the driver is still listed as Nov 2012 and the new driver is dated Jan 2013.

So could it be that I was supposed to uninstall the old driver prior to instaling the new?

Would appreciate any help.

What does it say in DXDIAG? In Windows 8, just start typing DXDIAG in the tiled start menu.

In my DXDIAG file it shows:

Driver File Version: 8.17.0010.1140 (English)

Driver Date/Size: 11/14/2012 17:44:08, 1112064 bytes

Here's the information on the one I downloaded from the Radeon site:

Catalyst Software Suite 146.5 MB 13.1 1/17/2013
Description:

Package contains the following graphics drivers and dependent/required software for the products specified in the current version's official release notes for the 64 bit version of Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8:

Display Driver ver. 9.012

OpenCL(tm) Driver ver. 10.0.1084.4

Catalyst Control Center ver. 2012.1219.1520.27485

Oldman, the Radeon HD 7570 is an OEM card made specifically for some Dell and HP computers. It is not really supported by the AMD site. I think that's why your driver is not being updated correctly.

Take a look at these forum discussions:

AMD Radeon HD 7570

AMD Radeon HD 7570 drivers

It looks like you'll need to get the correct driver from the HP site:

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Unfortunately, it is a common practice many OEM's use. I have a similar issue with my Sony IGP, which is still unsupported by nVidia.

Thank you all. I went to the HP site (thanks Lanlynk for the link) and found what I needed.

Evidently I have the latest driver that is available from HP. Someday they may get around to providing the updated driver that AMD has.

Your "someday" is about right, oldman. I've had OEM equipment which never had upgraded software/firmware, so I ended up replacing that piece of equipment with non-OEM equipment.

Plus, when you build your own system you can eliminate all the bloatware dealer built systems usually include. Our latest system was son built.

To me the lack of bloatware is #1, closely followed by non-OEM hardware!

As a follow up and thanks for all informative posts, I would like to inform all (in the for what it's worth department) that I returned the HP computer to the dealer.

I now have an Alienware X51 with and Intel i7_3770 3.40 GHz processor, 8GB memory, and a Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 (1.5 GB memory).

The computer, so far, runs like a dream and I am really pleased with it.

Make sure you chain that thing down, it could get up and go.
