Cynic's Guide to Life
The Cynic's Guide to Life

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a squeaking fan belt and a leaky tire.

I believe for every drop of rain that falls, a flower grows. And a foundation leaks and a ball game gets rained out and a car rusts and...

Follow your dream. Unless it's the one where you're at work in your underwear during a fire drill.

Always take time to stop and smell the roses... and sooner or later you'll inhale a bee.

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

If you don't like my driving, don't call anyone. Just take another road. That's why the highway department made so many of them.

If a motorists cuts you off, just turn the other cheek. Nothings gets the message across like a good mooning.

When I'm feeling down, I like to whistle. It makes the neighbor's dog run to the end of his chain and gag himself.

It's always darkest before the dawn. So if you're going to steal the neighbor's newspaper, that's the time to do it.

Each day I try to enjoy something from each of the four food groups: the bon bon group, the salty-snack group, the caffeine group, and the 'thing-in-the-tinfoil-in-the-back-of-the-fridge' group.

Just remember... You gotta break some eggs to make a real mess on the neighbor's car.

When you find yourself getting irritated with someone, try to remember that all men are brothers... and just give them a noogie or an Indian burn.

This morning I woke up to the unmistakable scent of pigs in a blanket. That's the price you pay for letting the relatives say over.

Love is like a roller coaster. If you like it, you don't want to get off, and when you don't... you can't wait to throw up.

Computers In Movies
25 Interesting Things That You Learn About Computers in The Movies...

1. Word processors never display a cursor.

2. You never have to use the spacebar when typing long sentences.

3. All monitors display 2 inch high letters.

4. High-tech computers, such as those used by NASA, the CIA, or some such governmental institution, have easy-to-understand graphical interfaces.

5. Those that don't will have incredibly powerful text-based command shells that can correctly understand and execute commands typed in plain English.

6. Corollary: You can gain access to any information you want by simply typing "ACCESS ALL OF THE SECRET FILES" on any keyboard.

7. Likewise, you can infect a computer with a destructive virus by simply typing "UPLOAD VIRUS." Viruses cause temperatures in computers, just like they do in humans. After a while, smoke billows out of disk drives and monitors.

8. All computers are connected. You can access the information on the villain's desktop computer, even if it's turned off.

9. Powerful computers beep whenever you press a key or whenever the screen changes. Some computers also slow down the output on the screen so that it doesn't go faster than you can read. The *really* advanced ones also emulate the sound of a dot-matrix printer as the characters come across the screen.

10. All computer panels have thousands of volts and flash pots just underneath the surface. Malfunctions are indicated by a bright flash, a puff of smoke, a shower of sparks, and an explosion that forces you backward. See #7, above)

11. People typing away on a computer will turn it off without saving the data.

12. A hacker can get into the most sensitive computer in the world before intermission and guess the secret password in two tries.

13. Any PERMISSION DENIED has an OVERRIDE function.

14. Complex calculations and loading of huge amounts of data will be accomplished in under three seconds. In the movies, modems transmit data at two gigabytes per second.

15. When the power plant/missile site/whatever overheats, all the control panels will explode, as will the entire building.

16. If you display a file on the screen and someone deletes the file, it also disappears from the screen. There are no ways to copy a backup file -- and there are no undelete utilities.

17. If a disk has got encrypted files, you are automatically asked for a password when you try to access it.

18. No matter what kind of computer disk it is, it'll be readable by any system you put it into. All application software is usable by all computer platforms.

19. The more high-tech the equipment, the more buttons it has. However, everyone must have been highly trained, because the buttons aren't labelled.

20. Most computers, no matter how small, have reality-defying three-dimensional, real-time, photo-realistic animated graphics capability.

21. Laptops, for some strange reason, always seem to have amazing real-time video phone capabilities and the performance of a CRAY-MP.

22. Whenever a character looks at a VDU, the image is so bright that it projects itself onto his/her face.

23. Computers never crash during key, high-intensity activities. Humans operating computers never make mistakes under stress.

24. Programs are fiendishly perfect and never have bugs that slow down users.

25. Any photograph can have minute details pulled out of it. You can zoom into any picture as far as you want to. Example: "What's that fuzzy thing in the corner? I don't know, let's check. It's the murder weapon! Let's look under the bed for the killers shoes. no, just some comics books (Marvel 1954, very rare). Let's check the closet shelves...!"

Good morning everyboomie. welcome

Happy Easter and a good egg to ya. chocobunny

I have to hop on down the trail to work at 7 straight up. yes

I don't really care for 7 up that much you know? razz

I always wonder what was wrong with the first 6 ups. headscratch

Anyway before the sun is up I'll be up, and I'm down with that, because it means my work day will be winding down at 4:00.

7 up.....4 down. thumbsup

I'm starting to get dizzy. crazy

A little voice in my head is saying get up or get down and stay there, preferably down!

Going down for the count.

1 sheep.....2 sheep......3 sheep.. sleep

Sheep sleep soundly on satin sheets.

Have a happy Easter everyone.

Happy Easter to all. A lovely day here! Waiting for tenants to come pay me money. I love rent day!

Off for a walk with my friend then out to a late lunch with teacher friend from long ago at our favorite old steak place. I'm salivating already.

Waiting for yard kid to arrive. Not holding my breath or I'd for sure die. He will probably be a no show again and have a great excuse which he will promptly forget when I ask again. Sigh. Hope beyond all hope he actually arrives, on time, ready to work, and doesn't find some excuse to leave early. NOT paying him in advance and not falling for the 'can you loan me money' ploy ever again. Already avoided the 'I'm tired, it's a long way home' ploy of trying to get me to drive him across town (only 2 miles). My neighbor actually falls for that one all the time and I'm trying to get her to realize he is YOUNG healthy and can surely make it 2 miles on his bicycle even if he is tired from working. Taking some time to work on that one.

Off to do fun things, I hope. chocobunny

Everyone up. Easter Egg hunts about to happen in between rain drops. Policing dogs in the den to avoid a chocolate disaster. Ham in the oven, potatoes cooling so I can make potato salad. In between all that, teaching the Per to play Solitaire. I remember playing Solitaire for hours when I was a kid. Course, we didn't have all the video games they have. puppy

Night Haroula, sleep well sleep

Bets, I hope Susie feels better soonest.

Hubby has gone to take the boys home. Son is at work. I ran out of pickles so he'll pick me up some on his way home and I'll finish up the deviled eggs.

Fed the boys ham and potato salad and peas and corn before they left. Per loved the ham so I told him I'd freeze some and we can have it next weekend when he is home.

Once I get those eggs in the frig, I'm gonna go to bed so I can relax, sip my Lady Gray, and read. I'm in the The Last Battle in Memories of Light (last book in the Wheel of Time series, which began in 1990) and I'd like to finish it. Maybe that way I can fall asleep before 3 or 4 a.m. puppy

I have no idea what to read after this though confused

Home from a fun lunch with my teacher friend. She told a story about passing out drunk on someone's front porch after a night of drinking when she was young and has no idea to this day whose porch she 'borrowed'. Just someone in the neighborhood near the bar! What fun.

Party in full swing at the Roofer's. It's a birthday for one of the youngest of the grandkids with easter egg hunt thrown in.

Yard kid, who promised under oath of great bodily harm to definitely, no excuses, no matter what, show up today to do my lawn, is a NO SHOW. Didn't need a crystal ball to predict this one.

If he calls or shows up in the next few days with another great excuse, I'm going to tell him I already got someone else to do the work. That should throw him for a loop and maybe next time he will be here when he says. Not dumping him, but just want him to do what he says with no drama for me. Can't wait for the next excuse.

The seal pool cam is DOWN. Ugh. Nothing to watch. Dunno why, no announcements, but yesterday the ranger and a policeman were on the beach all day scooting 'protesters' away from the seals who were afraid to come ashore with the babies. Was quite a sight. A couple hundred people with kids running all over and the 'authorities' were very restrained and everyone went their ways safely. Hope it's not down because of some vandalism or something. Ohhhh.

Hello everybody. wave

I had a hustle and bustle day, and I am so glad it is over. slapforehead

We started the day with a hurricane. I had to get out of my car and run like mad to keep from washing away. shocked

The rain was only good for about 5/8 inch where we live.

After work I went to the creek for a couple of hours, but once again I found nothing but heartache and disappointment. cry

Now I think I'm absolutely ready for bed. tired

Hope you are too. wink
