Introduction of the story:

“It is the year 2329 and you are Gage Blackwood, Agent 5 of the Temporal Security Agency (TSA). For the past eleven years, it has been your incredible duty to protect history from any threat that could disastrously change it. Twice in your decorated career as the TSA’s elite agent, you have saved Earth from criminals utilizing time travel to destroy history as we know it.

Two months ago, you thwarted a plot to frame you, masterminded by a traitor once thought above suspicion-Michelle Visard, the rogue Agent 3 of the TSA. She had capture you and threatened to betray the secrets of time travel to another alien race known as the Krynn. But your intrepid online companion, the sentient Artificial Intelligence Arthur, saved you by creating a virus that infected Agent 3’s time-travel JumpSuit and caused a malfunction. Unfortunately, Arthur himself was the virus and he was trapped within Agent 3’s time-travel JumpSuit when a flood of violent temporal energy surrounded them both and sent them spinning into the time stream. No trace of Agent 3 or Arthur has been found and both are presumed dead.

Since then, a grim time has befallen the TSA. With the Agent 3 scandal undermining the credibility of the TSA, the intergalactic league of worlds known as the Symbiotry has demanded that Earth surrender control of its time-travel technology. You watch helplessly as the TSA shuts down around you.

While the TSA endures its darkest hour, distant events are transpiring on the far border of known space that dwarf the scope of any danger you have ever faced before. A forgotten alien race has amassed a fleet of warships and returned to claim a relic long lost. As their ships ominously approach Earth, you are charged with discovering that which they seek. As you accept the challenge to save Earth from the mysterious invaders, you learn that the answers to the crisis in the present lie hidden within the past….”

……This is where your story begins.

As soon as you gain control of Gage, you are given the job to go back in time to receive the three timepieces that Michelle has left behind in three eras. These eras being the Himalayans, the Andes and Atlantis. You must find these three timepieces in order to get to the time where Michelle is hiding out and capture her and take her back to the TSA. So far so good, as soon as you capture Michelle, she tells you what she learned and why she betrayed you. Now that you know her reason of betrayal, you must find these three legacy pieces in order to safeguard them from other races that are fighting over the chance to gain a hold of these legacies. Your mission as usual is to save the Earth.

The Three Eras

Since I’m not a history buff, I’ll just take my chance here in saying that the eras that were a part of the game were very well thought out, in what they all had to do with a part of the story. Each era is FMV, none of them at all cartoon-like. The actors are real, too. Thus saying, that each of the actors brought their own talent into this game and worked well within the whole story.

The Puzzles

The puzzles were well-designed for this game. Ranging from medium to hard. The hardest one being the symbol puzzle when you have gathered all three pieces of the legacy together. In the end, each puzzle gives you a fair chance in trying to solve it on your own. If not, you can always turn to Arthur for help on the puzzle or the hint board.

…Speaking of Arthur……

This guy is either a love ‘em or hate ‘em kinda guy. Or in my terms Artificially Annoying or in the design team term Artificially Intelligent. This guy is very useful in the game. He can give historical background in the era you’re in. He can translate foreign writing for you. Which you will definitely need for him to do in a few instances. If you don’t like him, just stay and watch the ending credits for a bit and you may enjoy the song that he sings for you in the end.

The Ending

I thought the ending movie tied up everything nice and neatly. I haven’t played the other two games, yet. So, I don’t know how nicely things were tied up from the other two games. All I have left to say is: Play This Game! It is one heck of a great game! If you don’t you’ll regret on what you missed out on when it’s gone. If you do play it, I hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have. Have fun with the game! wave

This was one of my favorite games. I played it first and enjoyed it so much, I acquired the first two games of the series. I am a history buff but the game didn't get too bogged down with history info that it was boring. Excellent graphics, particularly the FMV segments. I thought the plot line held up fairly well through all three games but they had to stretch a bit to bring it to some resolution. It was interesting to play the first two games and see the technical progression in the games' production values.

I found the A.I., Arthur, to be mildly annoying. I found myself wishing they had kept the female voice they used for the A.I. in the first game.

Overall, this is an excellent adventure on its own. Not too difficult like you said but just complex enough to keep it interesting and entertaining. wink

Hi Mac_Attack -

Thanks for posting this great review. JP3 was one of my favorite games (IS, I should say) and I bought it when it very first came out. I hadn't heard of the first and second games in the series at that time. Much later, I learned of them from 'Boomers, and found the second available for purchase, and the first unavailable. Last year I was Baaging (rummaging through used games in a store) and found the JP Turbo game for $.99! One buck plus tax. Not bad rummaging, I'd say. So - to cut to the chase, I Played them in order, One, Two Three. Yes, It does make a unified story. That's why the obscure comment at the start of this post. If I thought I enjoyed JP3 before, I enjoyed it even more the next time through, as a meaningful part of a series. Each game can stand on its own, but as a complete set, they mean even more.

Arthur? Yes, he can be a pain in the arse, but I wouldn't change a thing. His funny lines outweigh the nuisance factor.

I have so many favorite moments in this game I can't count them, such as cutting the balloon's rope and leaving the warrior dangling - yelling for help in Incan, or Mayan, or whatever language that is.

BTW, remember the greenhouse in Shangri-La? There is a similar structure near Dresden, Germany that houses a 150-year-old Camelia plant (read: tree) that is uncannily similar to the greenhouse in the game. You normally think of a Camelia (Kammelia in German) as a houseplant - buy it and it flowers a while, then you toss it. Well, this one in Germany is the size of a nice Maple tree, and when it blooms in March/April, watch out! It carries two or three million blossoms.

I'm 100% with Tally on this one. It is tied with 2 others as my all time favorite game. I thought Arthur was just adorable, kept him on extra chatty all the time. This is the first game, (actually the ONLY game ) I have finished without any hints or peeks at a walkk-thru, thanks to Arthur. I have played it 3 times now (3rd was DVD ) and I know I will do it again in the not-too-distant future.

FIVE Stars *****

Jeepers, I just finished it a week ago on my 2.8 GHz XP. There is one trick, go to 'Glitches' for the Website that Jenny100 gave me on how to set your Hardware Acceleration. The thread was titled

"Weird Stuff w/ J.Man 3-Legacy of Time", the last post was July 31. It's on page 3.

Absolute perfection happydance happydance happydance

This was the 5th time I played it.

You can Email me about it if you like.

This was one of the first games that I ever played, and the first one that I played with my son, who was only 7 at the time. For that reason, I really liked that there was almost no foul language, no violence (so to speak), that you could not die, and that it was incredibly funny. I really loved Arthur, not only for his funny comments but for the historical information that he provides. I always set up the game options so that he talks as much as possible. I thought the story was great, the cut scenes were great as were the graphics. I miss the days when we used real people rather than animations. Anyway, this is certainly one of my favorites and one of the best games ever made in my opinion. It is a great tragedy that they never made more after this, because they had finally gotten it exactly right--perfect cast, great story, great graphics, and a great blend of tension and humor.

Nice review, Mac Attack! I, too, am a big fan of JP3 and have played it twice so far. I have Pegasus Prime (the later Mac version of Turbo) and Buried in Time, which I plan to play soon.
