If you are talking about a runny yolk that you can dip bread into, I always order mine 'over easy' or 'over medium' (egg is fried on both sides). Also you can get them soft boiled and the yolk will run. "Sunny Side Up" is another term for the runny yolk where they fry the egg only on one side. I love runny yolks with rye bread for dipping.

Here is a guide to what to ask for.

Many restaurants will not leave it too runny for fear of salmonella.

do your restaurants offer poached eggs?
If so they always have a soft yolk

sunnysides - as long as the white is solid with no liquid that runs when you tilt the plate slightly, the egg is safely heated through and should be safe to eat.if the white isn't cooked , just ask for another. hope that helps...

When my kids were little they would ask for a "dunked" egg!
