This is the absolute best and unique message to teach about the effects of piracy I have ever seen.

You can read about the anti-piracy game Game Dev Tycoon here.

The game itself is a Sim game and not an adventure game but the effects are clearly the same.

I especially loved the comments of those that couldn't "win" the game because of pirates stealing their income. rotfl It's a shame they can't look in the mirror and see themselves. grin

Lots of comments in my brain but most non-postable.

I nearly choked on the one who wanted to know if he could use DRM to stop the piracy in the game! rotfl Funny how your opinion changes when it effects you and they are only "playing a game". For the developers it's real!

Wow, this was a riot, and kind of scary too! 93% of the players got the pirated game version!

The only way to protect yourself is to create an online game. I guess that’s why so many studios focus on these types of games and it’s probably a driving force to eradicate traditional single player games.

I never thought about this reason for so many online games. Very upsetting. I agree with how frustrating DRM can be for the player, and it appears it's not completely effective against piracy. But I do NOT want to see single player games disappear! What's the answer?

Outstanding! Good find Ana. rotfl

Yeah, the comments are priceless. You wonder if the lightbulb ever goes off in their little heads and they make the connection. idea

I liken game development to growing crops and selling the games to harvesting. You have some options on how you want to handle pests that reduce your harvest. You can do nothing and lower your expectations, you can use pesticides (DRM) and prevent the pests; but the pests will adapt over time and become resistant to the pesticides so you have to keep creating new and better, or at least different pesticides.

I'm lousy at predicting the future and I don't really have a good feel for how the industry is changing even right now. It will be interesting to see where this goes.

I also hope that we will keep single player standalone games available.

I hate online games so if that should be the wave of the future, I'm getting out of the water. I probably have enough games from GOG to last me a lifetime anyway.

And kill off your customers while the "pests" continue to adapt.

I think you'll have plenty of company.

I knew there was a reason I was stockpiling single player games! ... to escape the coming Game World Apocalypse and the rule of Big Online Brother. eek

Just teasing. wink
