The Bells of Saint John (March 30, 2013) - brought back The Great Intelligence from The Abominable Snowmen (1967) and The Web of Fear (1968). An alien intelligence with no physical body. Previous two attempts to invade Earth it used robot yetis. Not this time. You might want to turn off your wifi connection. wink

Cold War (April 13, 2013) brings back the Ice Warriors, from The Ice Warriors (1967), The Seeds of Death (1969), The Curse of Peladon (1972), The Monster of Peladon (1974). The Ice Warriors are from Mars. They don't like the heat.

Nightmare in Silver (May 11, 2013) sees the return of the Cybermen.

The 50th anniversary special, planned as a 3D movie is apparently going to see the return of the Zygons, who previously appeared only once, in Terror of the Zygons (1975). Terror of the Zygons claims that the Loch Ness monster was a creature brought to Earth by the Zygons and left behind when they were defeated.

I LOVE Dr. Who! Never miss an episode and am catching up on the 'old' Drs from the beginning. Hate it when a 'new' guy takes over, but then they seem to grow on you. The newest one, was way too 'childish' for me, but he's changed this season. I think the writers must have figured out they were losing the 'older' crowd. Scary stuff on the last episode. Wow. Kiddies, cover your eyes!

I see Dr Who over our over the air broadcast from out PBS station, which is always behind in showing the latest Dr Who episodes. I got started watching Dr Who when Tom Baker was the doctor. Who, IMHO, has been the best doctor to date.

Tom Baker was my first and favorite Doctor too.
My PBS station never got past Peter Davison.

Put me on the Tom Baker list. So far, no Dr. Who has managed to better him. I always rushed home from work on Dr. Who days.
Of course, just about everything that can happen
has happened, seems as tho lots of the episodes are older ones twisted a bit.

After all, how many times can you totally wipe out the Daleks?????

I loved the David Tennent/Rose bit and then Donna series. Missing him as the Doctor.

Sorta, did you know David has a new gig, it started last week. Spies of Warsaw, on BBC, of course. He's my second choice as the Doctor.

David Tennent and Rose will be back, in the anniversary special. What I'm wondering about is will they be able to get any of the other living Doctor actors to appear. I saw interviews of Tom Baker and Christopher Eccleston, not together, on Youtube in which they were both asked and both said no. Tom Baker sounded like he'd be willing to do a cameo as someone other than the Doctor, but Eccleston said he doesn't look back.

Count me as another David Tennent being the second best Dr Who. I don't remember the name of the present Dr, but when he first appeared he reminded me a lot Tom Baker's Dr Who, so I might have to declare a tie for second best.

Our PBS station stopped Dr who with a few episodes of the Dr who came after Peter Davidson. I did catch all the episodes of the guy before David Tennent though.

Don't know how accurate wikipedia is, but according to article there on the 50th anniversary film, Christopher Eccleston was contacted and declined to participate. The article also says that according to Sylvster McCoy none of the surviving Doctor actors from the original series have been invited. Colin Baker in an interview has confirmed this. John Barrowman (Captain Jack) would like to be involved but hasn't been asked. Neither has John Simm, the last actor to play the Master.

If you haven't seen it, Sylvester McCoy is in the The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Seems Peter Jackson is a Doctor Who fan.

I'm watching the Doctor Who season finale, "The Name of the Doctor", on Amazon. They digitally inserted the Doctor's current companion Clara into scenes with the Doctors from the original series for the episode prologue. The first and second Doctor's had to be colorized since they were in black and white.

Its part of the explanation for why Clara keeps living, dying, reappearing to live and die again. The last scene was interesting.
Click to reveal..
The Doctor meets himself, but its not a version we know. When Clara sees this person and asks who it is the Doctor says "it's me: but than adds "I said it was me, I never said it was the Doctor". He explains that his real name isn't important its the name he choose, The Doctor, that is a promise of what he will be, and this person broke the promise. So I guesss its the Doctor's dark side. A credit appears on the screen "Introducing John Hurt as The Doctor".

I didn't see the movie Doctor but somebody on Amazon says he's there but if you blink you miss him. I did see 9, briefly, near the end. I didn't see number 10.

I have two ideas about John Hurt.
Click to reveal..
I think he's the one who destroyed Gallifrey. I also think he's the Valeyard, a version of the Doctor that exists between regenerations as explained in Trial of a Time Lord. So he's not number 12 or 13, he's Doctor X.

In case you haven't heard by now, Matt Smith is leaving Doctor Who. He will finish out the year. So it seems the Christmas special will end on a sad note.

I'm not up on British actors so I have no realistic choice for the new Doctor. I don't agree that he should be younger. The Doctor can't keep getting younger. A thousand year old man in a teenage appearing body would be funny for about five minutes. I loved Rowan Atkinson as the Doctor in the parody "Curse of Fatal Death" and think he would be great as the Doctor for real, but that won't happen.

I hate it when they change Doctors, but then again it brings something new to the show. I hated Matt in the beginning because he acted way too young for what I considered a 'hero' but in the last few episodes he finally became the Dr. Who character in total. Now they are going to change again. Hope it's someone mid-age who will be more 'adult' oriented. I almost quit watching when the stories were more for kids. Can hardly wait for the 'regeneration'. Maybe it will be a GIRL! rotfl

I'm with you Ana. A lot of my friends like it and we have many shows that we like in common but this is one I have not really gotten into. I suppose if I start I won't be able to stop. smile

I've been watching Dr. Who on BBC America. As far as I know my PBS stations (in New England) never carried the program. I also used to see it on the SciFi Channel a few years ago.

Anyway, when I saw that John Hurt was going to be the next Dr., I mentioned this to my nephew, who is a Dr. Who fan, and he said Matt Smith has signed on for the next season???? Then I asked why was John Hurt there at the end of the season final; his answer was that he was going to be "A" Doctor, not necessarily the "Next" Doctor. Confused?? I am. I'll just have to watch and see. Love the show.
