Dreams come true. Without that possibility, nature would not incite us to have them.
John Updike (1932 - )
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You're Old When
You know you're old, when your mind and body aren't what they used to be.
Did the fine print shrink? (This is called bifocals denial.)
Do your knees buckle, but your belt won't?
Have your beauty marks sprouted hair?
Does the gleam in your eyes comes from the sun hitting your bifocals?
Do your joints sound like Rice Crispies ... snap, crackle, pop?
Does your little black book contains only names ending in M.D.?
Have you been driving along thinking about stuff, and suddenly realized that you don't remember the last 3 blocks?
Has a fortune-teller offered to read your face?
Does your pacemaker make the garage door go up when you watch a cute guy/gal go by?
Is the little gray haired person who helps you across the street, your spouse?
Do you have too much room in the house and not enough room in the medicine cabinet?
Have you sunk your teeth into a steak and had them stay there?
Have you quit pulling out your gray hairs, because you could end up bald?
Does your back/knee go out more than you do?
Does a dripping faucet cause an uncontrollable bladder urge?
Have you seen territory on the scale that no one who isn't pregnant ever wants to see?
Have you searched all over the house for something and finally found it ... right where it was suppose to be?
Does the idea of laying on the floor to watch TV strike you as uncomfortable?
Remember when you did it all the time?
Have you dialed a number and then gotten distracted? When the person you called came to the phone, you had no idea who you called or why.
Do you groan a little when you bend over or get up? What doesn't hurt, doesn't work, right?
You Know You're Old, If You Remember Ancient History.
Did you watch or listen to Ed Sullivan, the Brat Pack, Max Headroom, Bobby Sherman, the Mamas & the Papas, K.C. and the Sunshine Band or Captain Kangaroo?
Did you once own a lot of 45s ... records, not guns?
Have your children studied events in history that you lived through .... the Kennedy and King assassinations, Viet Nam, the Bi-Centennial and the first landing on the moon?
Did you learn to read with Dick, Jane, Sally, Spot and Puff?
At one time, did you think pong, 8-track tapes or cars with fins were cutting edge technology?
Dollar a gallon gas does not strike you as THAT cheap. You can remember when if was under 50 cents a gallon and full service, too.
Did you attended school when dress codes forbid girls to wear pants to class? ( They were considered too casual.)
Do you remember girdles? (UGH!)
Have things you owned shown up on Antiques Road Show?
Is "25 Years Ago Today" your favorite part of the newspaper?
Can you remember B.C.... Before Computers?
Do you remember when they programmed computers with cards? (Shuffling them would drive the programmer really nuts.)
Have the fashions of your youth come back in style? Do you look bad in them the second time around?
Do you remember when the first MacDonald's came to your community or the first family on the block got color TV?
As a kid, did your parents buy you tennis shoes because they were cheap?
Can you sing the theme song to 'Green Acres,' 'Beverly Hillbillies' or 'Gilligan's Island.'?
Do you remember when sit-com couples slept in double beds and no one on TV talked about sex?
When you were young, did you think the world would be like the Jetsons in the year 2000?
You Know You're Old, Because Your Spirit Is Willing... But the Rest of You Wants a Nap.
Do you have to do math to remember your age? (OK, it's 2002 and I was born in 1954, so I must be 48.)
Do you feel like the night after, and you haven't been anywhere?
Do the current heartthrobs look like young pups to you?
Do you get winded playing cards?
Have your children begun to look middle aged?
Do you no longer think of speed limits as a challenge? OK, maybe a little ...
Do your children refer to your friends as 'the old ladies' and other equally depressing things?
Do you regret resisting temptation?
After painting the town red, do you have to rest a while before applying a second coat?
Does dialing long distance wear you out?
Have you found that you can't stand people who are intolerant?
Is the best part of your day over when your alarm clock goes off?
Do you burn the midnight oil until 9 pm?
Do you shop for comfortable shoes rather than cool ones?
Have you told your children all rap music sounds the same? (Remember when you parents said that about your music?)
Do you know what your company retirement plan is?
Does it take twice as long to look half as good?
Do you still chase members of the opposite sex, but you can't remember why?
Does your mind makes contracts that your body can't keep?
Do you look forward to a dull evening?
Do you walk with your head high' trying to get used to your bifocals?
Do you turn out the light for economic reasons rather than romantic ones?
Have you sung along with the elevator music? (When the music of the 60's and 70's is played by 101 Strings in the elevator, it's just sad.)
Have you been window shopping ( NOT talking about clothes here) and seen a fine looking member of the opposite sex? Then it dawns on you. They're young enough to be your kid.
Have you heard yourself say things that your parents always said ... and you hated?
And finally... there is always having the worst of both worlds with zits and gray hair at the same time.
Good morning everyboomie. welcome
Make that, WELCOME TO THE WEEKEND!! rah
I hope you all have an awesome day of head hunting. thumbsup
If that's not in your plans........WHY?? duh
There's nothing like holding something in your hand that was made by someone else thousands of years ago, and knowing you're the first person to see it, and hold it, since it's creator lost it. wink
My plans for today include, ah lets see, think yep, going back to work. rolleyes
I believe I am being punished for breaking a hand mirror yesterday in the bathroom.
I just started 7 years of bad luck.
What? Living with my sister is not punishment enough? cool
Have a happy day everyone.
Good morning to my Boomer friends
This is another flyby. We have storms and thunder/lightning going for 3 days now and connection is more off than on. We have to unplug all plugs for fear that the router will be hit by a lightning again (and burn). Tomorrow Sunday we'll drive back to Switzerland and a modern world, where all the Internet connections are working...
Happy weekend to all of you. See you Monday. Hugs!
Good morning all! wave
I've not been up long - mostly thinking breakfast and I'm not sure if I really want to be out of bed. No definite plans for the day. Got a lot of should do's and some want-to-do's. Mostly I want to get out in the car and roam. And I might...
Yankee Clipper - Thanks for asking about my cat yesterday. She is doing much better. Back to her young self. Woke up this morning and she was laying on my arm and watching my face.
Hope you all have a nice gaming day. spring penguin catrub
Good Morning everyone! I had to turn the heat back on. Too cold in the house to sit here. Poor son is at the three day EDC outdoor music festival here and it goes from 5PM to 5am every night. They froze last night I am sure since it was 40 degrees. Hubby and youngest are at the funeral and I have a quiet house perfect for working in the corner.
Haroula, enjoy your day!
Evelyne, doesn't the storms affect your migraines? I hope you have a safe trip home. How is mom doing?
Gerry, thanks for the coffee.
Connie, is it a pool day?
Gail, still in the corner. Hoping to get done by tomorrow afternoon so I can get everything together for the party on Monday.
Sharon, hope that whatever you decide to do you have fun.
SpaceQ, just put you chair facing him and stare at him till he invites you over. hearts
Have a great day everyone!
Dark, overcast here today but south of here -San Antonio it's flooding and how. Don't drive warnings stay inside because everything's flooded and more rain expected. My pasture does look great -all those trees just bursting. I've gotta get somebody to do my yard as it also is bursting with blood weed and regular weeds 5-10 feet high. The cats love it. Someone offered to mow but never showed up -twice. Oh well, such is life.
SharonB -that's good news about kitty -it's so gratifying when they settle in again. I knew she has a good home all along.
Started cleaning house and that's a good sign and I can type faster, good. Bad old arthritis is fading away.
Sure glad I'm not living around Buffalo, NY now as they too have 40 degrees according to my cousin. This AM it was 70 and I complained cause I was cold. Stay warm all
Super Saturday ya'll puppy
Hubby and I slept in this morning. Then got up and took monkeys to the park where we did an extra lap and 1/2. It was so gorgeous out. We don't get many of these low humidity days happydance
Then we came home and oh my....it was chaos. Boys had gotten up and one wanted x while the other wanted y. Then dad got up and started getting things together for a lake trip today. After his unexpected 13 hour day yesterday he is in pain so that didn't help anything. Anyway, eventually everything got loaded and the kids and son are on the way to the lake. He was hoping we could join him, but as a toilet broke last night, it had to be fixed and there are other Saturday errands so we passed.
I will be vacuuming and straightening and clearing up today. After that I will consider starting up the grill and cooking some books, but we shall see whistle
There is another ball game tomorrow, so if son can get someone to cover his shift tomorrow night, we'll still get a game in this weekend wave
Had a bad day. Full moon. Went to thrift store late afternoon yesterday. This morning, my license plate 'tag' was missing. It's the little 'year' tag you stick on. Someone scraped it off. I only had one other under it so they must have really wanted it bad. I also had tucked it under the frame (had to unscrew and then put it back) just to be sure it was secure. So they got it off, but didn't get the two upper corners and one 1/2 inch strip at the bottom center. Probably won't be able to use it unless they smear mud or something on those spot to hide them.
I think I actually saw they guys who did it. 2 of them were hanging around the front doors of the thrift store when I came out, and they quickly joined 2 others at the sidewalk. Transients, with shopping carts and bicycles. I drove out right next to them and they were acting 'suspiciously'. Looked like they were passing something from one to the other. I just thought it was drugs, but they stared at me the whole way. I pretty much have decided it was them who took my tag.
So I got a form from the DMV on line, filled it out, put in my 19 dollar check!, and mailed it off for a replacement.
Now I wait while being afraid to drive for fear a policeman will stop me for no tag. Would be totally embarrassing and I don't want to be on the side of the road while everyone gawks. I am carrying a copy of my application so I can show them I am working on it.
If they don't believe me, it's a fix-it ticket, which will make me get the new tag, put it on, go TO the police department and show them. Hate to go through all that. Been there, done that twice before.
Now I'm looking for one of those clear license plate covers. Gonna make sure this doesn't happen again. Annoying and costly! hardwall
WARNING! This person is extremely blonde...please type SLOWLY.
Aww Sorta, that is awful! I didn't know those things could be scraped off.
Done for the day. Dinner was super yummy. Tried to make strawberry lime sorbet for dessert but it refused to set up so we are having strawberry lime slushies instead rotfl
Hubby and I are going to go rest on the bed and watch Argo. If son gets the kids down, we can watch Jack Reacher with him when he gets back. If not, Soot and I will watch it tomorrow.
Back in a bit wave
Oh Yankee 70's would be so lovely!!! Glad "art" is moving on out!!! Be careful out there in the rain. I see one has died already from the flooding.
Ana alright I guess. My song for the day is......an oldy about getting along without before so will now too. lol Hope that project is moving right along!!
L4l hope the toilet repair goes well and quickly! Hope son can change shifts so ya all can make the game tomorrow. Happy grilling!!
Oh Sorta at least they have it on record that you have renewed those plates. Been getting bad here like there. The other day a guy got caught in a conveyor belt supposed working alone and died. Then the next day some guy was shot in his car at work in the parking lot. At first they said he did it himself but the eveidence said otherwise. They caught the guy who did the shooting next door in a motel in Duluth! Today there was a stabbing at McD's. I think the world has gone crazy. lol
Night Haroula!! Sleep well.
