Hi,
I have just purchased a new desk top computer,it is windows 8,previously xp.
Whilst transferring over I lost all my games.
I have a laptop windows 7 as well.
I have a game scavenger hunter disc & I was wondering if it can be installed on windows 7 laptop
If it can could you give me the instructions on how to do it.
I am not very computer savvy but my son would do it for me.
So sorry for the novel I hope you understand.
Cheers
Gloria

Try right-clicking the Setup file on the game disc and choosing "Run as Administrator."

If that doesn't work, right-click the Setup file, choose Properties, choose the Compatibility tab, and try the different compatibilities to see if one of them works.

Although I have this game, it didn't come in a box or DVD case so I don't know where it is. So I can't check the exact name of the Setup file. It may be called something other than "Setup" or "Install." Check the files on the game disc and use your best judgment which of them is the installer.

You could also try installing the game using the same procedures that Jenny outlined for Windows 7 on your Windows 8 desktop. It may install and run there just fine.

You always have to reinstall all programs including games when going from one computer to another. If you need any help at all learning to use Windows 8, please feel free to PM me.

Gardens put to bed for the winter. Time for some gaming!

Hi Jenny & Draclvar,
Thanks for your replies.
I will give it ago myself but If I don't have any joy I will get my son to do it.
I actually would like it on my desk top but I thought windows 8 would be too advanced as the game is so old.
I really appreciate your offer to pm you Draclvar for help.
Thanks once again
Gloria

edit I have no idea what I am doing so will have to wait for my son or any more info from you

Hi Jenny& Draclvar,
Un fortunately my son could not work out how to play the game because when he installed it & followed your instructions it appears huge on the screen.I really thought he was smart but maybe he is not.I will say he is a mac man lol Maybe I will just have to say I will not be playing Scavenger Hunter........

Now I have another problem I installed Testament of Sherlock Holmes on windows 8 & in the introductory thingy you have to do the game freezes & it just makes a buzzing noise & I can't get out so I have to turn of the computer on the tower.I also have it installed on my laptop 7 as well & I got past that stage with no problems.
Any thoughts of what might be wrong.
Looking forward to you telling me it is something simple. crazy
Cheers
Gloria

According to what a gamer said in the Frogwares forum
http://www.frogwares.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=57537

Quote:
I had the same problem (my game would freeze even not at Whitechapel or at the prison, but at random locations).

What solved the problem for me was to turn all options to minimum. Water, shadows, bloom, depth, everything off. Anisotropic filtering set to none. Then I got no more problems, and even the lag that I had went away, and the game ran very smoothly.

There is also a patch for HDMI problems ***here***, but unless you're using an HDMI cable with your monitor, I don't think it addresses your problem.

For Scavenger Hunter, the "too big for the monitor" problem may be related to using a widescreen monitor. If you have a spare Windows disc, you can try playing it in Virtual PC on your Windows 7 computer. Maybe your son could set that up. There are instructions for using Virtual PC 2007 with a Windows 98 CD at ***this site***, but you could also use a Windows 2000 or XP CD. In Virtual PC, you should be able to play the game windowed.
