I bought this from GOG a short while ago, and can't for the life of me work out how I missed this game when it first came out. It's like Thief and Deus Ex all rolled together. Creeeeepy, too.

I'm getting my derriere kicked, though. Ne xt playthrough I'll do better. Right now I have almost no health and just enough PSI to give myself one shot of invisibility to make a break for it to the main elevator, and then....???? scared scared

Reminds me of my first Thief game, stuck inthe Lost City with two health points left, a few water arrows, and prowling Fire Elementals.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I loved System Shock 2 and played it twice, something I hardly ever do. It is the scariest game I've played by far. I played as PSI, which made it easier at the end of the game.

Ride is right. I have some speed enhancing hypos that got me out of that last rough patch and now I'm heading off to find a transmitter. Again with the no supplies, though.

Hmmmm, I wonder if you could use those hypos to speed through housecleaning? lol

I played through it again some weeks ago.

Are you playing with the texture updates as well? They really make a difference. Try this guide

http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=4447.0

System Shock 2 with these mods is as close to a perfect gaming experience as you can get. I had more fun when I played it (a few weeks ago) than I have had with any game in the last ten years. Everything is so good. The atmosphere, the level design and especially the sound design (made by Eric Brosious, the same guy that worked on Thief).

Glad you found this game out. smile

One of the things I liked the most is that you really have to make use of your resources, as there are a finite number of them. More than once I've had to just adapt the "better flight than fight"-approach; the game design FORCED me to it, and I loved it.

What kind of character are you playing?

Are they dead? Yes. Unlike you they have but one life...and they wasted it for your sake!

Yes, I'm being forced to fight, which is a drag because I am playing a PSI user who has no real fighting ability (other than being able to smack a zombie on the head with a wrench, which is not very helpful against a bot). It's like pitting a mage/thief with no spells left against a fighter.
I get that you have to husband resources, but the hypos don't give you much PSI. Anyway, next time I play I'll take a few points in a weapon just for those tough spots where I have no PSI left.

I'll check out that texture update.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

You can also try to sneak past them. I don't think there's any specific skill for that. smile

My favourite level is definitely Med/Sci.

Hah! Take that, silly megalomaniac computer person thing! kissy kissy

So now I'm starting my second run through, again with PSI powers, but this time with a better idea of how to collect and use resources. I will also give myself a couple of levels of Exotic Weapon as soon as I can because that was a life saver later in my game.

Anyway, zombies calling. Must get back to the slaughter. grin

The Crystal Shard is perfect for a sneaky assassin type magic wielder. I gave myself a couple of extra levels of strength, too, and those awful Assassins are no match for me now. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Oh yes, and found some Medium armour, which I missed last time.

Okay, I'm done for a second time.

The OSI character is way overpowered at the end of the game. Pretty cool spells, though. I also gave myself level 5 in Exotic weapons and Maxed out on strength for the inventory slots and the Heavy armour. And this time I didn't have to sneak around invisible all the time.

Great game. Too short, though. I could have played on for twice as long.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

I've become used to games like Witcher and Skyrim and Mass Effect, which go on for quite some time. My first play lasted a month, playing on and off, but the second one was only three days of playing. Great game, though. Next time I'll try a different character, more gun oriented.

Now I'm playing Riddick. Lots of good sneaking in there, too.
