Suddenly, my avatar (picture)isn't with my username anymore. The picture is gone and I didn't delete it. I don't remember how I added it because it was too long ago, so how do I get it back?

Thanks.

Towards the top of the page, click on the drop down My Place. Choose Edit Profile and scroll down to the bottom. There you will see a place to upload or use a stock avatar.

Homer6,

Thanks. I really like the one I used but I no longer have the URL for it because I had a different computer then and I don't remember where I found it frown I have looked around a little but haven't found one I like yet. I know they have to be a certain size and I thought that there was info on GB as to how to download an avatar to your profile. Have I missed it? Why would my picture suddenly go away?

If the URL you linked to for your avatar was removed at the source your picture would disappear where ever you used the avatar. Likewise, if the avatar at the source disappeared at the source so would your picture.

It's like deleting a picture on Photobucket or other type sites. Anyone you sent that link to would no longer be able to see the picture because the picture is no longer there. So the link is no longer any good.

If you want your old picture, try Googling, or Binging the subject of the picture or avatars.

Which is one reason you should always copy your favorite avatars to your own photobucket or imageshack account instead of relying on someone else's. It may be too late to find your old avatar again -- unless you have it backed up on your hard drive or something.

Jenny100,

No, I didn't back it up. When I did this, quite a few years ago, I wasn't sure what I was doing and was pleasantly surprised when I was able to get an image. I don't remember how I did it and could have sworn that GB had info on how to add an avatar to your profile. Otherwise, I'm not sure how I figured out how to do it. Did we used to have information on here about that?

If I am understanding what you guys are saying, my avatar was from a URL that removed the image, so my link no longer works? I got a new computer a couple of years ago and the original image was on the old one. I don't know anything about photobucket or imageshack. I have been looking for a new avatar and would like to know what size the image should be.

Thanks!

Not quite. The URL is the address to the site where something is stored or accessed. In your case, the URL you used for your avatar was the address to the site where the avatar was stored. If you didn't change your avatar here on GB, in your profile, then something has happened to the URL so GB can no longer access that site. This could be caused by several things, notably because the site shut down. Another cause could be because the site name changed, or it moved. The point being, GB can no longer find the site storing your avatar.

What you could do until you find something you like is to go My Place, top of page, Edit Profile and scroll to the bottom of the screen and use one of GB's own avatars.

Isn't is strange how attached we get to our on-line avatars? I've had my Dracula tomato for many years and have it saved several places so I never lose it! An internet friend who went by the name of Caidi found it for me at least 10 years ago. I've never seen it anywhere again.

It may have been deleted on the server (yahoo) - I located a couple of threads you posted in several years ago and found a reference to this:

That appears to be the case:
Yahoo Discontinues Its Avatar Collection

Unfortunately, it looks like April 1, 2013 was the last day you could download your avatar to save.

I don't think you can make these avatars anymore.

Gatsbygirl, was your avatar a specially created one like these?

Winfrey, thank you very much for helping me with this. I will use this one until I can find another one. I loved the one I had because it had a women holding a book (I am a Librarian) with a little white dog next to her. I have a little white dog (and a little black one, too) so it was perfect for me. I can't find the same image and don't remember where I originally found it. Where di you find this one?

----------
Draclvr,

You are so right about this. I was attached to my avatar because it fit me so well. I loved it the minute I saw it. It was a woman holding a book (I am a Librarian and books are my favorite thing) hence my username but adventure games run a close second to my love of books. A little white dog was next to the woman (I have a white dog named Sugar) and the woman was wearing glasses. I now only have to wear glasses for reading but glasses seem to fit a librarian's image smile You guys are really great for helping me with this.

--------
lanlynk,

I found it online and didn't change it. After seeing the address that several Gameboomers posted (from my past messages), I must have had a Yahoo avatar so I am out of luck. It should be on my old computer but I didn't save it to anything, it should be on my hard drive. Maybe I will be able to retrieve it if I ever transfer my files from it over to my newer computer? However, I have a feeling that I'd better give it up and move on to a different one frown

If you linked to a Yahoo avatar then the image doesn't save to your computer.

I found a couple images by searching for girl, book, cat....

Number One

Number Two

Did you ever stop to think and then forget to start again?

I have found a couple of images that might work but how do I get them on my profile on GB? I tried copying the images and or creating a shortcut but there wasn't a way for me to paste it (grayed out so I couldn't do it). I know I have to resize it too. How do I get it from there to here? I don't remember how I did when I first added an avatar to my username.

Thanks!

gatsbygirl,

If you want - Send it to me as an attachment and I will place it here and add it to your profile.
GB will carry - store it for you.

Any picture that is posted has to be in a server. Picture in your computer cannot be posted on an internet site unless it is stored in an internet site.

Check your avatar right now.

Keep your copy of the picture in case you want to use it again.
Refresh your browser to see the avatar. Nice!
